BT Sternguard Wip

Phonos

Recommended Posts

Started working on my sternguard the last couple of days. Setup is yet a question that's why i'm gonna make their weapons/hands modular.

Been a while since I've painted anything of this scale (2 years)so results are not the best!

First 2 models almost done. Details such as scripts insignia on their armor yet to be painted.

Comments on setup and ofc painting are always welcomed.

These guys look brilliant. Very impressive.

How did you go about doing their tabards?

Thank you Honda! The tabards where painted as follows

1: Snakebite leather base-coat

2: First Highlight With 50:50 Bleached bone / Snakebite Leather

3: Second Highlight Bleached Bone

4: Final highlight on outer recesses with mixture of Skull White with some drops of Bleached Bone (80:20)

Group shot of new models combined with the old SB kit on the backround. Whish i could alter their weapons but not in the mood of messing with metalics..! Possibly they will be used as Sword Brothers on Crusader Squads.
More to come

Looking awesome. Really good. However, I am not a fan of the placement of the sheathed sword on the sergeant. It just seems off to me.

Either way, it really has worked me up and I cannot wait to get my hands on that Sternguard kit! I need like... 8 boxes for both my Templars and my Imperial Fists.

I may even start my Crimson Fists army and buy another 6 boxes for them! Hahaha! Nah, make it 12! Double force org running 6 units of scoring Sternguard! So in other words, the entire Chapter! lol

Thanks for your kind comments brothers!

@ Firepower - I know sad.png Bases are the last part of my painting process they will be done soon for the entire squad!

@ Crusader_91 - Not sure about the sword either, plan was for the sergeant to hold it on his hand but for some reason it didn't look nice to me.`Either way it is not glued so might try something different. That's alot of boxes brother! The good thing tho is that from 1 box u have plenty of weapons(sadly not tabards) to make many models.

Very nice! Way to paint like the emperor is watching ! Are the red weapon casings red just because they're sternguard/swordbrethren or do you do that with you're whole army? Looks good with the swordbrethren motif, but personally i like the all metal look for my regular dudes. All function, no bling ;D. IMHO though that sword on the sergeant dude looks a tad funky for my taste. Seems too much like a legit, functional sword rather then some piece of iconography.

Cheers Brothers!

Sadly don't have any progress to present since i'm quite busy the last couple of days.

@Crusader_91 Waiting for the pic!

@ ReinHard - Thats the closest i can get with my phone camera without loosing focus, if i get my hands o proper cam i will post some!

@ WarlordEXE - Initiates have their weapons painted black/metalic - i tend to only paint red 2h weapons (bolters aside) and heavy ones and ofc all the sword bretheren weapons(besides their chainswords). As for the sword, it's not intended to be some sort of icongraphy/relic but part of his wargear. I am so confused :p

@Glarc - I just magnetize the wrists . On the arms set that hold weapons with both hands ( combi melta example on the SB) i don't have to magnetize anything since the position of the arms holds the weapons just fine!

I' m tempted to convert the metalic Sword Bretheren and field an entire 10man squad of pure melt!

Thanks! I am in the middle of putting all of mine together. I am kitbashing the BT upgrade kit, and the Sternguard kit to make 10 models. But I want to make something that i can swap all of the weapons out easily.

Np!

Yes exactly that's what i want to achive since i haven't yet concluded on final setup which  of course will change from list to list. Need testing first!

Quick small update! 4th Sword Brother is almost ready !

Final touches to be done on all models -scripts/iconography- as soon as all models are at their final stage!

Small shield on the first photo was finally placed on his torso.
