Children of the Night

Hi everyone,

First of all sorry for any grammar mistakes and other stuff like that. It’s been quite since I’ve used English (other than reading) so I may by “out of shape” with the language.

So I’ve been watching a lot of wip and reading this forum for quite some time now. I always wanted to play W40k and start collecting miniatures but never actually had the money for it. Now that I’m a bit older (late 20’s) and have a job I’ve decided to start my collection. I’ve read a few codexes at my local GW store, learnt basic rules from the guys over there and decided to play CSM and after
reading about traitor legions I chose Night Lords.

I haven’t have too much time to think about the fluff but I have some ideas. Me and my friends have been playing Dark Heresy RPG for 5 years now, I’m playing imperial psycher and thought It would be fun to put my character into my army somehow. I have some ideas but I rather not talk about it now. Still have some thinking to do smile.png

Right now I got the name for my warband:

Children of the Night of Kratos Nikodemus or just Children of the Night

And here’s my first ever painted miniature. Warp Talons commander

No conversions yet, but I’ve seen a lot of inspiriting stuff on this forum, so there probably will be some on my regular CSM. The paint scheme is the standard one. Like I’ve said it’s my first ever army so I don’t want to mess things up.

And here’s my first question: Any ideas how to matt the paint on the miniature? It’s too shiny for my taste. I’m thinking baby powder but probably you guys know some better tricks.

Don’t know how often will I post (work and other duties) but any comments, ideas and advices from you guys would be awesome.

Thanks

EDIT:

Still working on base

Well, you're off to a promising start and I must say that I'm impressed by your first model :) Sure, there's room for improvement, but I think a lot of people would like to have had a first model as good as yours (myself included ;)).

Concerning the shiny-ness, I'd suggest getting some matte spray varnish from your local hobby shop. It'll kill the shiny, but make sure that you read the instructions on the bottle carefully before using the spray, or you could end up with ruined models.

Oh, and last but not least, your English level is fine :)

Thanks guys :)

Well I don't know if the good painting thing are my hidden skills or just the fact, that I've read a lot about painting before I've even started. Knowledge is power... as the loyalists say ;)

I'll check that matt varnish you recommend.

Decided to paint the inside of jump packs wings to purple and then add a little bit of red and wash it black. I think that will look better than plain ol' blue. Don't have time for that today, but tomorrow I'll have a whole day for our hobby.

Thanks Capitano. Well I like the old ones too, but like I said I'm new to W40K so it makes no difference to me msn-wink.gif

Finally had some time to sit and paint and here are the results. I took some time to make bases look more appealing (rocks or something like that) and made "damaged road" thingy. I've also painted commander's jump pack's wings red. Very dark red actually, so I don't know if you can see this. It doesn't look so good as I thought it would, but I decided not to change that.

Also did some rust on the jump pack's exhaust. I've seen some photos of old tanks and trucks and noticed that this place got rusted. Probobly because of the temperature.

And one last photo. This Warp Talon will have Space Marine/Imperial Guard head in his hand ("To be or not to be" style biggrin.png ). Just need to go to my friend and take one from him smile.png

I can see that I'll have to work on my lightning smile.png

Hope you guys liked it and I hope I'll post some more soon

Little update.

I've got tired with Warp Talons (all those gold details etc.) so I decidet to paint rhino.

It took me some time, it's still not finished but I want to see what you guys think and looking forward for some advice.

I also put some gloss varnish on every lightning so it got this cool light-like-shine

Lightnings on the rhino were made with my latest investments - an airbrush and an awesome kolinsky brush. I airbrushed the glow with hoeth blue and then aded white with 10/0 brush. Actually I was astonished by the results. Didn't thought it would look so nice

Really like those lightning bolts man, the airbrush makes a huge difference. My one gripe would be the "Ave Dominus Nox" scrawled across the top. It feels a little too much like some wayward Nostraman youths snuck into the motor pool with a can of spray-paint and decided to tag some legion vehicles.
