Is this info for the Horus heresy dark angels from FW? Probably one for special divisions? like Jetbikes, Techmarines, Flyers, Elites and so fourth.

Do you happen to have the link, would like to read about it.

"Also, the Dark Angels have SIX wings. The Ravenwing is one and the Deathwing don't exist in the Heresy.....  so that's a few to fill!"

Seraphim:

[...] normally a synonym for serpents when used in the Hebrew Bible. A seminal passage in the Book of Isaiah (Isaiah 6:1-8) used the term to describe fiery six-winged beings that fly around God's throne singing "holy, holy, holy".

if it helps :)

Cheers

If I remember correctly, the Ravenwing existing Hersey-era is in the fluff, derived from "The Order of the Raven's Wing" of which we can assume was one of the Knightly Orders on Pre-Imperial Caliban.

Didn't some of the biblical angels have six wings? Was it the seraphim?

Two different ones, actually, the Seraphim and the Cherubim.

As mentioned by Isiah, the Seraphim are fiery beings with six wings, while Cherubim are a sort of chimæra with four different heads (human, lion, ox and eagle) and six wings.

Kinda sad that the Deathwing apparantly didn't exist pre-heresy.

I got the impression is that the Ravenwing IS one of the 6 while the Deathwing didn't exist before the heresy. Cause as mentioned previously the Order of the Raven's Wing DID exist in pre-Imperial Caliban.

Don't count the Terminator-wing out yet. They just may not have been called "Deathwing" pre/during the Heresy.

Maybe they had wings for almost every squad type...

According to Betrayal's squad types for 30K,

EL Terms/Vets (Lionwing - okay, probably called something cooler)

TR Tacticals (Swordwing)

TR Assaults (Angelwing)

FA Outriders (Hunterwing)

FA Skyhunters (Ravenwing)

HS Heavy Supports (Ironwing)

I think the idea of the "wings" is being taken a little too literally. During the heresy era the dark angels operated very differently than today. As The Order absorbed different knightly orders their customs very well could have been adopted. Also the inner circle was something very different than it is now. The "wing" suffix as far as we know only belonged to the ravenwing during the period prior to the emperor arriving on Caliban.

It is obvious though that The Lion preferred a very multi pronged warfare style with many elements supporting each other. It is something that will hopefully be expanded on once we have our forge world treatment.

Ok guys I've figured it out. I have all 12. You're welcome in advance.

1. Swallow wing.

Marines specializing in eating. Not a very mobile force.

2.Disallow wing

Astartes with very strict rules. Never ask them if you can do Something.

3.Disavow wing

They don't know the Lion. Never heard of him and they don't know what you're talking about.

4.Withdraw wing

They can never have money in their bank account. Don't loan them money.

5.Preview wing

I don't know why they were created but they have seen the the begining or every movie.

6.Outgrow wing

Marines that wear armor that never seem to fit. Fat guy in a little coat.

7.Follow wing

Once the restrainging orders were issued this wing was disbanded.

8.Mellow wing

The oldest marines formed this wing. They take Tie-dye armor and 'special' brownies as wargear.

9.Sow wing

Fashion sensitive astartes. They always look fabulous.

10.Mow wing

Marines tasked with groundskeeping.

11.Screw wing

Only those of legal age can be told about these guys.

12.Ravenwing

See C:DA

Well i think that's all of them.

Nailed it.

Just reading through Unremembered Empire now; it mentions the Dark Angels have six wings.

Deathwing is very briefly mentioned - along with Dreadwing and Stormwing. No real mention on what they are, or what makes them special.

I've not read the full book yet, so Dan Abnett may mention all of them. I suspect Ravenwing and Ironwing two of the others, leaving one more unaccounted for.

There are some pretty cool tid-bits in the book about the Dark Angels and Lion El Jonson.

Noooo, don't tell me that. Due to the Black Library policy of waiting 6 months between release of the hardback and release of the standard ebook, I won't read it until April 2014!

B&N looks like a large format paperback in February 2014... pinch.gif

Could some of these wings form the basis for the second founding chapters? This might explain why the Dark Angels apparently only have two left (plus the Deathwing) post heresy.

They could be analogous to the chapters in other Legions, each with their own preferred fighting style but with only the Ravenwing so highly specialised. The six wings could break down like this:

The Lion's wing - The basis of the Dark Angels chapter.

The Ravenwing - Does not split from the Legion like the other wings.

Luther's wing -  Mostly left behind on Caliban during the great crusade, the fallen were part of this wing. It is disbanded post heresy.

The other three become the Angels of Absolution, Angels of Redemption and Angels of Vengeance as part of the second founding, each of whom later created their own Ravenwing and Deathwing like organisations.

Just finished reading Unremembered Empire

Spoilers

The wings

* Dark Angels Wings, 6 of them. Ravenwing, Deathwing, Dreadwing, Apparently as the first Legion which was even used in the Unifaction Wars the Dark Angels had access to lots of tech. Why? Well...in order to accomplish any mission that was needed they had to rely on themselves...and when other legions were found...they remained secretive...even before finding their primarch.

I like the sound of the Dreadwing. If that's a force of pre-heresy dreadnoughts and is represented in Forge World's army list I may have to rethink my policy of not collecting the same army in two different time periods.
