Unremembered Empire....initial review

Yep.

'Horatio says ‘tis but our fantasy,

And will not let belief take hold of him

Touching this dreaded sight, twice seen of us:

Therefore I have entreated him along

With us to watch the minutes of this night;

That if again this apparition come,

He may approve our eyes and speak to it.’

– from Amulet, Prince Demark (attributed to the

dramaturge Shakespire), circa M2

Although I find it a bit funny because every time I hear "Horatio", my thoughts go to Horatio Hornblower. :P

I believe there is a reference to the Space Marine game. Graia is mentioned at one point by Guilliman.

Sort of, yeah, but Graia is mentioned in the ____ of Mars trilogy by McNeil as being the home forgeworld of one of the main tech adepts in it. It's popped up in several places since being publicized in the SM game. More like a go-to forgeworld if you need a name that's not one of the big ones like Gryphonne, Mars, etc

Wow

Horatio Hornblower? Its been quite some time since I've read about his exploits against the French haha

I didn't know someone else had read that.

But "Ge' up an bar the door!"

Actually, there was quite a well-known (at least in the UK) television series that followed his exploits, starring Ioan Grufford (he of Mr Fantastic fame). I think there might have been about 6 to 8 feture length episodes. Got the boxset somewhere...

Yeah, the show was my exposure to it because my grandfather loved to watch it so I used to watch it with him.

Sharpe, of Sean Bean fame, is also a good mini-series that I always connected with Horatio Hornblower. Mostly because I discovered and watched them at the same time.

Still need to read the books though, I always forget.

Scribe, I am doing no more for the Wolves than I'd do for any Legion, than what I have done for any Legion. I have defended and ttacked all 18 Legions and I stand by those defenses and attacks as each one did nothing more than point out all the facts that were either being conveniently forgotten, legitimately forgotten or colored by personal bias.

The Wolves are considered by themselves as executioners. Fact.(Betrayer, Prospero Burns, Unremembered Empire)

The Wolves are considered by others as executioners. Fact.(Betrayer, The Outcast Dead, Unremembered Empire)

The Wolves were Emperor-Ordained. Unknown. (Betrayer)

The Wolves were Self-Ordained. Unknown. (Betrayer)

The Wolves have been shown to hold no hesitation in attacking other Astartes. Fact. (A Thousand Sons, Prospero Burns, Betrayer, Unremembered Empire, Fear to Tread)

The Wolves have been shown to be involved with sanction-type actions, regardless of who issued the orders. Fact. (Betrayer, A Thousand Sons, Prospero Burns)

They are the only Legion to show such a trait. False opinion(aka, wrong) (Betrayer, Galaxy in Flames, The First Heretic)

There are examples of Loyalists hesitating or being bewildered by the idea of attacking other Astartes. Fact. (Galaxy in Flames, Know No Fear, Fulgrim)

All I am doing is stating facts. If you believe this is downgrading to the Wolves, that is fine. If someone believes this makes the Wolves superior, that is fine. Those are opinions. When it stops being fine, is when someone goes "Book A says Fact B" when Book A actually says Fact C but is being used to say Opinion D or Personal Interpretation E.

Wade:

You're missing a boatlod of context. Guilliman was literally a fish in a barrel during the attack. The things that saved him were that he was a Primarch and his would-be murderers were basically average Astartes. From what we can tell of a small demonstration of Faffnr's speed, he at least is not the average Astartes, no more so than Khârn, Sevatar, Amit, Sigismund or Corswain is.

Kol I would consider the Wolves sent to the BA fleet on orders from Malcador that if Sang had turned they were going to try and kill him being an official decree from the Emperor considering his position.

Well, I've just finished the book and...Hell that was awesome!! I mean if not the best book in the series it's in the top three. It got everything: Primarch fights, xenotech, conspiracies, a bunch of legions, hunts over the city, many easter eggs...Mr. Abnett did it again. But it left me with some doubts, let's see what you guys think about them:

-Vulkan Lives? I mean in the end it doesn't seems like it but he lived trough the heresy, he defended the legion style organization after the Heresy IIRC, so they gonna retcon it or would it be solved in the next novel?

-Is Curze still in Macragge then? Or is that part of his visions?

-Could be the Pharos the way to reach Terra? and if that's so why didn't the Ultramarines nor the Dark Angels get there in time?

I have really appreciated this book. I was a little bit enraged against Guiliman and the Ultras lately (too much shiny perfection), and suspicious about Lion and the Angels (Lion had been a 2D character so far), but now I've regained my love for them. I cannot wait for the second part of this, I really hope it comes to A-D-B to write it, even more when Curze and Sevatar are in the mix.
