Dark Angels and their dress sense

A quick question for the community:

When considering the Dark Angels and their penchant for wearing robes, is the consensus that this was something that was widespread throughout the Legion prior to the re-discovery of Caliban, or was it introduced following the integration of members of the Order into the Astartes?

I am currently in the early planning stages of a First Legion force, and I know my Chapter/Order will have both Terrans and Calibanites, so I need to sort out who gets robed-up, if you'll excuse the phrase! msn-wink.gif

Your thoughts much appreciated.... smile.png

If I remember correctly from the books, the robe wearing is a tradition that comes across from the order after the re-discovery of Caliban.  Again from the books, a terran tradition of long & plaited hair is adopted by the Calibanites on Crusade.

All initiated members of The Order wore robes. In Descent of Angels, Zahariel and Nemiel practiced in a sparring room that was a spiraling circle (correct me if I'm wrong here) until they reached the center and had learned all they could from Cypher (not the one you know of today, Cypher was the keeper of traditions and histories of The Order). Once you were accepted as a full member of the Order and after the initiation ceremony you are given a robe. It is the assumption that Calibanite recruits retained their robes while Terran 1st Legion would later have to earn their robes. It is not explained in the fluff but it is assumed that after the reunion with The Lion, the 1st Legion adopted the culture and traditions of The Order, including robe wearing upon initiation. In my personal force I have only Calibanite marines, Sergeants and veterans wearing robes because of the infeasibility to initiate ALL members of the legion into it. I may be wrong but I chose that as a practicality of the shear amount of time it would take to teach and train ALL members of the legion. Over the course of the crusade I'm sure more and more members of the Legion wore robes.
