chaplain mortis
Hey guys, after seeing some of the cool rules and new shiny bits for the Iron Hands that are to be released I think I have got the hankering for a new army.. although I currently am working on a pre heresy Death Guard army, the boys in black maybe the heavy infantry army that im after...oh and you can include as part of your main force... robots....ROBOTS! so anyway...what I would like is just some feedback on a tester model I did earlier..always helps before you commit yourself fully..thanks in advance for any comments http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y2/chaplainmortis/z1.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y2/chaplainmortis/z4.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y2/chaplainmortis/z3.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y2/chaplainmortis/z2.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/281408-any-old-iron/ Share on other sites
GrandMagnus
Nice, good looking model. Colours are nice and clean. The only thing I would say does not look good is the gold/copper/bronze on the backpack. It stands out too much and does not really fit. But that is just my opinion. jeremy1391
I agree it's a great model and the only thing I'm not feeling too much is the gold on the backpack. Russ Brother 92
Echoing the others - a lovely model and I'd appreciate a tut for the paint job, clean and suitably weathered :) however I think if you just tone the bronze down a little, a dark wash ought to do it, it'll blend in better with the model. AfroCampbell
may i suggest using the newer version of whatever 'tin bitz' is now. I have found thats a nicer colour to do metal trims in.... <edit> for the trim on the backpack that is. otherwise is gorgeous! BassWave
+1 for bronze instead of gold. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/281408-any-old-iron/#findComment-3486722 Share on other sites
Kol Saresk
I kin of like the bronze that is there. A bit on the clean side, but it adds a noticeable contrast and when noticed, actually helps other details to aort of pop out. At least, that's what it did to me. chaplain mortis
Hey guys, thank you very much for your replies! Always appreciated as it lets you know your on the right track. As regards the brass on the backpack, definitely needs toning down alot...good idea with the tin bitz, was going to use bright brass but my bottle of it has turned to water!... Thanks again for taking the time to respond Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/281408-any-old-iron/#findComment-3486982 Share on other sites
Dosadi
Can I ask the process you used to weather the decals? Â They look really good. Â Â Dosadi Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/281408-any-old-iron/#findComment-3487949 Share on other sites
Anvilarium
Great looking mini chaplain mortis! Â The only thing I'd point out is that whilst your weathering is great, the helmet and backpack seem to be completely unscathed. Considering the battle damage on the rest of the armour, this makes the head & backpack look a bit too 'clean'. Â Other than that it looks great! chaplain mortis
@dosadi....the process for "chipping" the decals is really simple. .after the decals have been applied using micro set and micro sol and left to dry, simply "sponge" on the base colour to the decal..in this case it was black sponged on..go easy at first as it can be easy to completely cover the decal if your not careful..hope this helps and thanks for noticing. Â @ urza..thanks for your kind comments. .very appreciated. .regarding the weathering, im still at a stage with weathering where im a bit wary of going to over the top if that makes sense..but looking at the mini again im thinking maybe some silver roughly highlighted around the backpack to bring some more definition and maybe some weathering powder lightly applied just to the grills might make a difference. ..failing that maybe a wash of powder applied to the backpack and face grill to give some more definition?? Â Once again thanks for the comments Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/281408-any-old-iron/#findComment-3488240 Share on other sites
Anvilarium
@ urza..thanks for your kind comments. .very appreciated. .regarding the weathering, im still at a stage with weathering where im a bit wary of going to over the top if that makes sense..but looking at the mini again im thinking maybe some silver roughly highlighted around the backpack to bring some more definition and maybe some weathering powder lightly applied just to the grills might make a difference. ..failing that maybe a wash of powder applied to the backpack and face grill to give some more definition?? Sounds like the right way to go! I also found that bright silver looks great when lightly sponged over darker silver areas (face grill, pauldron rims, knuckles etc) as it looks like fresh scratches and riccochets. You can't really go overboard with weathering on the Iron Hands, especially if you are basing your army on the events of Isstvan V! Those guys went through hell and back, its a surprise the survivors had any paint left on their armour at all!
