A quick PSA about axes and exactly what a bearded version is.

The beard of an axe is the part of the bit(blade) that extends below the width of the butt. Axes with long beards are usually referred to as bearded.

The longer blade provided a much larger cutting area, and the 'hook' could be used to grab weapons and shields to pull them from an enemy's grasp.

The bearded axe is my favorite style, and I believe Flint shares a similar view with me.

(A nerdy aside, there is technically no such thing as a doubleheaded axe, because it's all the same head of the axe regardless of how wide it is. The correct terminology is double-bitted.)

It's so pink! Liking it a lot. Will admit the white parchment strips are not what I would have chosen colour wise, but it is your model. The pink though! Is a real pink pink. And the contemptor, looking good with the axe!

Another weapons aficionado!  Well put mate. I am also glad you made the axe into a one-bitted axe, because double-bitted axes in battle are ridiculous. The guy in the link may wear knitted hipster sweaters, he knows his weapons.

He makes some good points and I've always thought they looked a bit silly as well. It wasn't until a few years ago that I found out no one ever used them in battle. There's a simple elegance to bearded axes and I don't imagine I'd ever model one that I created myself any other way.

Now now. Khazâd guards wouldn't look as good if their two-handed axes were one-bitted.

More on topic, the pink seems chalky to me. Is it only me?

It does a bit to me too. Maybe its because it's a bit pastel-y or the photo didn't come out 100% perfect?

Cough, cough.

Do I need to say it?

Speaking of which, here's my contemptor with all his messy basecoats.

Remember how he looks now. It'll look hella better in a week or two, then we'll all look back on these and chuckle happy.png

Ahh look, it's brave Sr Forte

Sir Forte, who had nearly fought the Dragon of Agnor, who had nearly stood up to the vicious Chicken of Bristol and who had personally wet himself at the Battle of Badon Hill.
