The Shadow Guard

Recommended Posts

Thank You Shadow Guard for wonderful event! thumbsup.gif For the first time I've managed to complete a tank so fast. I can't wait for next such challenge. Maybe in the heaps of unpainted minis I'll have something appropriate :D FOR THE LION!

A great event! The DAs delivered spectacular results - something only to be expected from the Glorious First!!!

Congrats to SG who came up with the concept and saw it through! Many more will follow!

Okay, so the next competition:

Recreate a previous oath, but paint it better?

Finish a previously uncompleted oath/model?

Paint something new from the ground up?

That's what I'm taking away from this, and option for everyone, even the Oathbreakers...

Good stuff SG! I do not believe I would ever have finished building that LR as its' pieces were scattered over 2 different houses.  Success!  Looking forward to the next one.

Also I can understand why the the Ultramarines would flee from combat since they lack the fearless granting presence of the strong inner circle. :D

We will ALWAYS be 1st - :D :D

Folks, avoid these kinds of comments like the one above, please. DA enthusiasts in this forum are a hardcore bunch, weathered and battlehardened by so many contests and wins, thus motivation is always at a high.  Also as you can see by the thread numbers between the two forums you can see DA fanbase is bigger and more active. So the low turn out and completion rate shouldn't be a target of subjective humor. Always be humble in victory.

Hey guys... and gals.... Great to see you enjoyed the contest. I am amazed at the continuing enthusiasm in this forum for the hobby. However, as Chaplain Lucifer pointed out, please don't make fun of our erstwhile cousins.... We should be humble in victory, knowing that we did what our primarch wanted us to do... our duty fulfilled... and feel remorse for those who did not!

Some of our blue coloured cousins obviously felt that we had stacked the odds against them and that may well have been a major reason for their non-participation. However that was not the intent of the contest, rather it was to try and increase their participation.

I agree with Chaplain Lucifer that the DA enthusiasts in this forum are pretty well dedicated bunch and talented as well as weathered by many contests. But this forum only began to win the forum-wide contests in the past two years.... supported in no small measure by the Semper-Initiative :) Before that it was all BA, SW and BT winning the contests if my memory serves.

So we shouldn't forget our humble beginnings .... but at the same time rejoice in our accomplishments!

SG

Meh,

I understand that there is a jeering tone in my previous post, but I will stand behind it.  Despite the close call here, I can honestly say I have never made a vow and failed to complete it.  We post on this forum, taking on the pseudo-role of the upper command structure of our chosen space marine Chapter/Company.  While what I say is meant in jest, I understand that with the dire lack of inflection that the internet supports in typing that it can come across as askew.

I will not take back, or edit away my jests, as I am not ashamed of them.  This board is very much a brotherhood of gamers, and any male who has a brother (older or younger) will understand the ideals of tough love.

I would have loved to see the UM sub-forum come to the table, and even put up a single completion, but alas they did not.  In fact, their thread last I looked didn't even get a final post so on their end it fell flat.  It's kind of sad, but we live and learn.

I cannot in good conscience say that I am sorry, as that would imply both wrong doing and remorse that is lacking.  What I will say is that nothing I say on this board is meant to be offensive or to be taken personally.

Paul

SG you have no need to apologise, if people are intimidated by a turn out they still shouldn't give up, if I was the only Ultra I'd still fight to my last breath.

Thanks for the project helped speed through my commission :)

I think the turn of the reflexions was not about finishing first or second or whatever.

There must be a winner and a defeated challenger. Today we are the winners tomorrow will be defeated... That's the order of all things.

I think that the sense of the last message is more that DA members are really disappointed.

Disappointed to have won without an opposition. It's not a victory like in ETLII... It's even not a victory at all.

Yes SW, BT and BA have won before us, and I heartedly congratulate them. But did the DA refused to play those times? No.

Even with a crappy codex that made lots of us wanting to give a break in collecting and painting DA we still tried to participate and enjoy.

I'm happy with the Currus Belli not because DA have won (you never win when you play alone), but because I managed to paint 4 tanks and got great feed backs by other DA members.

It's sad our blue cousins didn't take it the same

Like I've said : anyway, I'm still waiting for A new challenge... I have 5 pods and 10bikes waiting for painting!

Great work by all those who both completed and participated (but for whatever reason could not compete). Congrats to all.

Some quite awesome sauce looking vehicles here thus proving that some the less glamourous but ever neccessary units within our army truly merit the love and attention lavished upon them.

Cheers

I

Thank you to everyone who participated in the first Bellum Aetrenus event, Currus Belli against the Ultramarines. The absence of serious competition does not detract from the phenomenal achievements of the members of thsi forum. It's always very rewarding to see veterans and newcomers participating in these events. One feature I have noticed is our brothers here appear not to be reticent to show off their work regardless of them being a novice or veteran in terms of the quaity. We appreciate all levels of painting and modelling and it is very satisfying to see that trend progress.

I am particularly thanksful to captain Semper for his constant encouragement and being a sounding board, the DA Mods, the admins (BT and KtL) and for this specific event the UM/LA/and IA mods. But most of all my eternal gratitude to the members of this forum who keep the spirit of the unforgiven soaring to lofty heights.

I know that the lack of UM participationw as disappointing but we move on. The idea was really to inspire the lesser active forums to greater efforts. I have made the Final Post in the UM forum with an explanation of our intetnions if anyone is interested to read.

The Future: The Bellum Aeternus will continue unabated in many forms some of them as challenges to the other forums and others as in-house Unforgiven events. So without much ado, I present to you.....

You may download the document and store it for posterity. These booklets will be ultimately be available from the list of events in the "Laws of the Lion" thread as well as from the Fortress of the Unforgiven website.

Thank you once again for all those who participated.

SG

Editorial Servitor mind wiped and reprogrammed! All texts rechecked by the Inquisitrial representative who also has now been mind wiped.

I'd like some feedback on these two booklets:

  1. Should they be A5 size or remain at the A4 size.?
  2. Should more images be placed in each page so that the actual pdf is smaller in size for downloading?
  3. Should we continue this trend of a booklet for the other upcoming events?
  4. Should these be available from the events section of the "Laws of the Lion"?
