Visions of the Omnissiah

Recommended Posts

For many months now I have had ideas floating round the old mind in relation to Skitarii, especially the more human Tech Guard. So I finally decided to put pencil and pen to paper and start sketching some basic concepts up.

Here is the first of these endeavours, the run of the mill, rank and file Tech-Guard. I got the inspiration for the helmet from Ben Counters Dark Adeptus. I also decided to go with a storm coat rather than robes, this is completely down to practicality and range of movement, for what self respecting Magos would say *0010100001* +translating+ "quick, get down behind this barricade and defend the relic" to the response of "I would Magos, but my robes are caught on this mesh, and even if I could get there this robe doesn't let me crouch that low", but that's just my personal opinion as the robes do look very AdMech.

Anyway enough waffling on, hope you like. C&C welcome.

That's awesome. I'm eager to see more!

The coat works. The trim makes it fit with the rest of the Mechanicum's uniform. Besides, not everybody can wear robes! I'm not sure about the helm. It looks smooth and futuristic, which isn't what Mechanicum are normally associated with. Of course, the Thallax use helms like that too and they look fine. More obvious 'clunkiness' around might balance it out. Your sketch has quite a smooth set of armour, and the Thallax have pipes and pistons scattered all over them.

Are you planning to make these into models, or just drawing for enjoyment?

Glad you liked it. The Thallax were actually an inspiration that i forgot to mention tbh. I do plan to do more and I'm currently working on Forge Marshal's, as well as some wargear. Currently I'm just doing these for fun and hopefully to inspire some of the great converters and scratch builders here on BnC to get creative, although i have been looking at that lonely guardsman in the cupboard thinking 'should i' buti havent got round to actually doing anything. Will hopefully get round to posting more soon.

Well a few days have passed and I have been back at the drawing board, literally.

First off here is the Forge Marshal as promised:

Forge Marshal

AS you can see he's pretty similar to the original tech guard but its the differences that are the key here. They are hooded as they hold a more ceremonial position defending the Forge's, so proper respect to the Omnissiah must be shown. They have more ornate armour and have a white trim, instead of black. From a wargear view they are much better equipped, hence the shoulder mounted Targeting Web.

And now the EASTER EGG

Electro Priest

This is one of the more interesting groups with in the Mechanicus, the Electro-priests, the design on the armour is actually the Electoo-Circuit and I decided against any cloth on him what so ever as they ended up crackling with electrical charge, so no point in being covered in flammable material is there.

Anyway that's all I have for now, C&C welcome. Hope you enjoy.

Electro-priests are always described as levitating on electromagnetic waves, so rather than split legs, why not a block to contain extra supplies and the like?

Also, the electoo is inlaid in the skin, rather than the armour - the Electro-Priest's attack in their 2e rules was a melee zap, rather than the more popular sith lightning depicted in fandexes or the Iron Man blast from Dark Heresy. That would imply that they'd need bare hands at the very least to deliver it, or conductive, flexible gloves rather than armoured ones.

Have you put any thought into weapons? Skitarii are usually described as being equipped with hellguns - hot-shot lasguns under modern parlance, I guess. Something like the Kasrkin would be a good match maybe? Electro-priests should use their electoos to manipulate magnetic fields and create a railgun effect, of course. :D

In general this is just my doodles. Some fluff based other re-imagined. For the electro-priest i just liked the idea of split legs better, as well as the electoo circuit running on both armour and body. I also thought a palm mounted fire point would work but hadnt sketched anything up yet.

I have been working on wargear and i was going with the classic hellgun for skitarii, but more likely going with a clip rather than a back pack power unit. This is mainly due to reading that IG stormtroopers are swapping to hot-shots but skitarii werent directly mentioned and i think in standard ruling the ad mech say "if it aint broke, dont touch it". How ever special branches such as the Crimson Guard from the Lathes would definately be using hot shots or other powerful weaponry due to their unique nature.

Hopefully i'll get round to doing more soon between college work.

Cheers for your comments.
