This stuff is INCREDIBLE! Such a great colour scheme and modelling work to make the entire army look so specially unique. It's inspiring me to work on the RTB minis I have that need some love, including the old Dreadnought and a stack of character minis...

A small update - made some bases for the next lot of bikes and things, for a change I'm going to paint them separatelyhttp://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/o541/Shadespyre/WARHAMMER/Space%20Marines/afd5f604-1e74-4c4e-9838-4c0518123ae4_zpscjpznf0e.jpg

Right now I have 6 bikes 2 landspeeders and 10 Terminators on the go - getting a bit bored of yellow paint to be honest!

Finally some models on some of those bases...

Two new Attack Bikes...

And two more Landspeeders...

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/o541/Shadespyre/WARHAMMER/Space%20Marines/DSC08240_zpscqmvdpsx.jpghttp://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/o541/Shadespyre/WARHAMMER/Space%20Marines/DSC08241_zpsoqndop3x.jpghttp://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/o541/Shadespyre/WARHAMMER/Space%20Marines/DSC08244_zpsapjum9zl.jpghttp://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/o541/Shadespyre/WARHAMMER/Space%20Marines/DSC08245_zpsfnkxlo7t.jpg

It's quite a lot of bother trying to find creative ways to get a heavy lump of metal to look like it's "flying". It's hard to completely hide the stands (even clear plastic rod isn't invisible, and it's not really strong enough for these models) so I try to choose asymmetrical points of attachment which at least look a bit less like old Airfix "stands".

I've added a new basing element to the most recent models to break up the grey and black with more rusty red. This is meant to represent huge chunks of rusted metal structure left decaying on the industrial battlefield. I'd be interested to hear what you think of it.

Yes, at this point they were light-weight scout vehicles. They may have had a force field for added protection, I think a lot of vehicles did at this point in time. Those weird Eldar walkers with the crewman exposed certainly did.

The next version of the model was still metal but had a big tough fairing over the front and looked a lot tougher...

Should be able to post pics of some Terminators later today :)

Shop around, you can pick up those landspeeders for £15 on ebay - they also did a set of Imperial Guard crew for it.

Here's my 5th (and SURELY last) Dreadnought - I had the parts kicking around and thought, why not?

If he looks somehow odd I think the legs are actually different lengths...

And now, my first Terminators

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/o541/Shadespyre/WARHAMMER/Space%20Marines/DSC08252_zpshoqlvboa.jpg

I do like these models, and I love how the white helmets look on them. Also huge shoulder pads have room for bigger unicorns, which is a nice change. So I might expand this squad further, but I will definitely do a squad of Assault Terminators, at the very least. In fact, they are already on my desk...

These continue to impress and inspire! Love the termies and the Dreaddy!

When I finally move into my first property and habe my workspace set out, I cannot wait to paint up the RT stuff I have.

Thanks, I can't wait to see what you do. It does help having space to leave stuff laid out between paint sessions, makes it easy to pick something up if you have 10 minutes spare.

A bit later than promised, more bikers:

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/o541/Shadespyre/WARHAMMER/Space%20Marines/DSC08269_zpsl4vyhm7j.jpg

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/o541/Shadespyre/WARHAMMER/Space%20Marines/DSC08268_zpshi1mqk2g.jpg

A lot of fiddly conversion work on these, mostly making the arms grip the handlebars (and in fact to add handlebars to some of the bikes). Rather foolishly this meant that the riders were assembled on the bikes and then painted, which is a bit of a faff and means they don't look so good close up. I did enjoy making some special weapons bikers and the sergeant, though.

This takes me to 7 bikers, so one less than a maximum squad. I think I have the parts for a couple more, so I may do a Chaplain to accompany them.

This week, I hope to pop out my first Assault Terminators and  the Company Champion...

Champion

Just spotted that I didn't paint the red seal on a purity seal, so I've gone back and done that...

Had a day off work today, so here's the (mostly) final pile of (mostly) power armour that I plan to paint in turquoise and yellow.

I have to admit it's a bigger pile than I'd hoped!

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/o541/Shadespyre/WARHAMMER/Space%20Marines/DSC08327_zpslxrd9ut8.jpg

Thank you, Brothers. And don't panic, there are still more models to paint after these... and then I need to go back and do all the flags and banners, and add all the squad markings and so on.... we're a long way from finished yet

UPDATE: Have now made the rookie error of trying to paint everything pictured at once! SO MUCH YELLOW PAINT!

You think I'd have learned better by now!

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/o541/Shadespyre/WARHAMMER/Space%20Marines/DSC08344_zps2gshhgef.jpg

and finally some more characters of various sorts...

http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/o541/Shadespyre/WARHAMMER/Space%20Marines/DSC08345_zpshccxfk3p.jpg

Wow, that was a long haul! Nice to clear those off my desk.

What next? Well, I'm going to have very little hobby time this month so I'll probably do a couple of quick fantasy miniatures, at best.

But when I next have some time I think we all deserve to see some more tanks?

  • 2 weeks later...

Not got to the tanks yet, instead I built 9 more Terminators and my Legion of the Damned squad.

[ Having a bit of a distraction - the engine on my car failed and I need to fix it, so I've started listing huge amounts of (mostly non-WH40k) minis on ebay to raise money for that. Might have to sell a couple of old fantasy armies and all sorts...  ]

  • 3 weeks later...

Working my way through more Marines at the moment, I realised I haven't updated the "to do" list in ages...

HQ:

Captain

Terminator Captain

Terminator Librarian

Librarian

Chaplain

Techmarine

Command Squad (Apothecary, Company Standard, Company Champion, Marines)

Troops:

4 Tactical Squads

1 Scout Squad

Elites:

1 Sternguard Squad (using Terminator Honours marines)

1 Vanguard Squad (mostly with Power Axes)(Jump packs)

5 Dreadnoughts

1 Terminator Squad

1 Terminator Assault Squad

1 Legion of the Damned Squad

Fast Attack:

1 Assault Squad

1 Bike Squad

1 Attack Bike Squad

1 Landspeeder Squadron

Heavy Support:

1 Devastator Squad

2 Predator Destructors

1 Predator Annihilator

1 Whirlwind

1 Vindicator

2 Land Raiders

2 Rhinos

etc

So, pretty much EVERYTHING is done or started outside the tank . transport category? That's a pretty good feeling :)

Of course by "done" I don't mean "finished" as there is still work to do on markings and banners and so on...

And talking of tanks, I do need to actually sort out what I plan to build...
