Uberlord Gendo
Hmmm, your talk of Al Rahem gives me ideas... The following will only work at like 2000++ points, but by Holy Terra, it would be glorious. Guard: Creed, with an Astropath Al Rahem with his platoon, fully loaded with heavy weapons squads Some combination of veteran squads and platoons for a total of about 40 guys Another platoon, geared as much as can be for CC Some Hellhounds Some Russes A Stormlord (Ideally with sponsons) Cypher Sisters of Battle: Uriah Jacobus A priest. (One for each platoon if you can afford it) 20 Sister squad Dominions in an Immolator If you've the time/space: Throw in a a battle conclave and/or take an Inquisitor, namely Coteaz. If you've still more room, henchmen in a landraider will do nicely. So, what in the Emperor's name am I thinking? Well, the basic idea is that we have three platoons either outflanking or infiltrating. The astropath with Creed ensures that we get them when we want them and the line of tanks, hellhounds, and Sisters pretty much ensures we can hold them off until we come sweeping in from the sides on turn 2/3. Ideally, we get first turn, to allow for a maximal salvo with our tanks, which is why Coteaz is great. (AND HE HAS DIVINATION!) The Sororitas charge forwards with the Hellhounds. (As does the optional Inquisitorial Landraider) Turn two stuff ought to start coming in. Al Rahem can shoot and move into position, etc. The squad with Cypher has infiltrated and hopefully mown down a good amount of stuff. (You also took the heavy weapons platforms, right?) They've probably survived since you plonked them down in cover and Cypher gave them shrouded. On turn two, the guardsmen up front can probably charge something, which is why you stuck a priest or two in there from the sisters. They're better than our priests and give us fearless (Of course, they had that already due to Cyphers ATSKNF) and let us reroll stuff, for example, armor and invuln saves in CC. The squads in the Stormlord are also good fun, because they can all target different things. If you took Heavy Weapons Platforms, you've got 10 of those firing out the top. If you took Veterans, you've got all of their heavy weapons and special weapons firing. Also at this time, you get the Immolator outflanking, providing some backup where needed. Sisters hop out and do their thing. By the later turns, your 20 sister squad will reach CC, their path cleared by the surviving hellhounds. The Landraider will have either soaked up tons of fire and be dead, or you'll have assasins and crusaders spewing out with a lovely rerollable 3++ in cc thanks to a priest. Armies like Eldar will be hard pressed to do much, particularly if your tanks are singletons, as they don't have the range to do much first turn. If you're really feeling mean, do a double force org chart, as it lets you take more independantly targetable tanks. For your second guard HQ take Odon, as he also gives you bonuses related to seizing the initiative. Now that's what I call the Hammer of the Emperor!
