Iron Warriors+XV Storm & Alpha Legion I Armoured+Heresy Era+

Heya guys, ive been increasingly coming to B+C as my first stop for awesome Heresy Models which has lead to me being increasingly interested in the Iron Warriors somehow msn-wink.gif I had planned a Dreadnought Platoon army for a Tempus Fugitives Heresy event a few years back alongside my gaming buddies, (who went for masses of Infantry and Land Raiders mostly) but a severe lack of funding at the time curtailed that hard. But I did a tester model, and planned some things out which all proceeded to germinate at the back of my mind for a couple of years.

Skip to this year and our group was planning a new army project 4-6 of us on board with a Salamander Drop Battalion between us with loads of pods and orbital/flyer support and everything capable of falling from the skies. Then Massacre happened. Zero Salamander models, Zero Charbyris Drop pods and Salamanders Rites very anti Deep Strike (And their special units unable to pod, which is fair really!). The Project kinda withered and we all ended up Coming with our own ideas. Which lead me back to the Iron Warriors! I have a Huge (10k+ Pts) Pre Heresy Alpha Legion Army and a decent (3k) Battle for Earth Era White Scars army but nothing for the Age of Darkness era, then rumors came of a supplement for Fortifications just as I (kind of) came into a big pile of money, To Forgeworld!

Enough talk for now i guess... Pictures? (Annoyingly a bunch of files got corrupted somehow but heres what i have...)

And this is the Previously assembled host (Though some has since been "Repurposed") To Clarify, none of this is mine, rather its my three gaming buddies from the previous Iron Warriors project I skipped out on :/

More Closeups and the Fluff bits once I wrestle my computer/phone to see if i can get back some of the missing shots :/ I hope that whets folks appetite though! And the photos will be a lot less blurry...

Cheers mate :D I may end up adding some Contemptors, I do love dreadnoughts... But no immediate plans im afraid.

Make perturabo proud and build him a fortress that rivals terra

Definitely! Ive got this lot, im planning to get another Bunker and possibly some more turrets, plus a load more tank traps, barbed wire and concrete slabs.

*jaw drops through the floor to the apartment below*

Ermm... Decent sized collection? unsure.png

Hehe, this is currently my smallest army, but the only pure FW one!

So I tried to recover pictures, swore a lot then had a huff and played Skyrim for "Five minutes" so a couple of hours later ive got a few bits to show but lost basically all the shots of tactical marines and buildings :(

I tend to evolve fluff from concepts while building the model and final touches when im painting (And typing up!) so at this stage its going to be a bit rough.

XV Sissi

As part of the XIIth Grand Company the XV Sissi are a light infantry formation, unusual amongst the Iron IV their main speciality is trench raids/counter raids and other less overt aspects of Siege Warfare. To this end they are very well equipped but lightly supported, with next to no armour assets or air support they usually rely on stealth and cover of night/artillery to get close to their targets and swiftly overwhelm them.

The Warsmith of the XII isnt particularly fond of his Sissi assets, preferring a more straightforward strategy unlike his predecessor who established them. To this end the Sissi units are often detached for Garrison positions in live warzones rather than direct combat. This army represents 2 Platoon of the XV holding a modest Firebase against a Shattered Legion Assault in the third year of the Heresy.

Command

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c188/Noserenda/Models/Iron%20Warriors/20131214_213150.jpg

Pictured Here: Platoon Sergeant Korinth Sturgas and Lieutenant Nosas Ren

Sergeant Sturgas is a solid veteran of the Crusade initially recruited on Luna. He is an expert in Communications which can be all important when separated from the main army. He is the most respected Astartes in the Platoon and keeps his underlings in line with an iron fist. He is converted from the Legion champion because i love the pose :D

Lieutenant Nosas Ren approaches life with considerably more Choler. He considers his Garrison rotations punishment for imagine slights or conspiracy and drives the men all the harder when they see real combat to prove themselves. He has been described as frequently paranoid even by Iron Warrior standards and can trace a conspiracy behind every bit of poor luck or coincidence that befalls him. Built from a bits order pretty much every part of the LT comes from a different kit :D Im debating giving him some form of back adornment but everything I tried didnt suit, suggestions welcome!

And the two usable Tactical Marine shots, the squad is tooled up with Bolters and CC Weapons and a huge selection of grenades and equipment :) Ready for anything!

And my dreadnought, whos technically off theme but I love him biggrin.png I imagine he came with the Pre Fab fortress and is its tetchy master smile.png Ive taken off some Spiky bits but not all, the Legion is cruising down that slope and its slowly creeping in, (Mostly on Corporals for some reason...) .

He also illustrates whats missing off the rest of the bases, the other Iron Warriors my buddies have use elaborate sculpted bases using GS but I hate GS (And they fall off all the time...) so im trying Agrellan Earth (Which I plan to drybrush bone and possibly ink wash). The Dread has been my tester base trying out a few ideas and thicknesses. Ive scored all the bases so hopefully we should see bigger cracks, or ive wasted my time, whatever biggrin.png

god damn brother now this s going to be an amazing thread, you are already smashing my HH force

pinch.gif

Cheers :D Youll probably overtake me at some point though!

Can't argue with an army that looks this good, that's for sure. Let's see some paint!

Many thanks! As soon as I get the weather to allow spraying stuff will start getting undercoated :)

that dread is incredibly cool.

Definitely, he wasnt really in my initial plans for this version of the army but then he reached out of my computer screen and demanded to be bought :D

Like the Command Brothers .thumbsup.gif Big Armies are coolyes.gif.

Ta :) And I definitely agree, most things I start small tend to fizzle, dropping a few hundred bob at least buys commitment!

In this case it was variety that scaled things up, I was just going to get the 30 Tactical Marines deal, then thought about adding Breachers and Iron Hands for Variety and the Mk 3 Weapons set and may as well get the heavies oh and Rapiers for the Good Crested heads! Thus what you see before you :P

I'm looking forward to seeing all these Iron Warriors painted, but what really interests me is the fortress. Space Marine armies, even heresy era ones, are dime a dozen here but I've rarely seen any stronghold, and certainly never Games Workshop's martyr series.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sissi_(Finnish_light_infantry)

Finnish Light Infantry term smile.png Ive been working on an army of them for Bolt action and they really are an impressive military! I wanted a term for Light infantry Trench raiders but quite a few either sound silly or are in use elsewhere, i toyed with Kaupartino but they are more of a long range recon/sabotage setup.

Youll also be glad to hear ive gotten ahold of one of the original Wall of Martyr Boxes so a whole load of trenches and bits, though im waiting on an order of more Concrete slabs before I crack on with those smile.png

Meanwhile on the painting front ive managed to get a tray worth of models sprayed and started work on them by roughly reblacking their bases with some cheap black paint, ill touch them up later! Hoping to get some done today as tonsillitis has taken my voice :/

Great concept and an impressive collection of resin! I can't wait to see how they turn out.

Thanks Chap :) I have a small update to show some direction!

Im quite aware i tend to go from Bare Resin to a big gap, to loads of painted stuff so im trying to get more regular wip bits. In that Vein tonights work!

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c188/Noserenda/Models/Iron%20Warriors/morepip.jpg

These five are about half finished, happy so far to leave them whilst the Ink and Crackling dries then highlight and tidy tomorrow. Does mean I have to make some decisions on markings too...

On that note I did a tester model for the army when I conceived it a few years back. Looking back at him now I can think of a load more to do on him... Especially the chevrons on his bolter which suck! Ill have to find where ive stored him and possibly do an update at some point!

Got the first five to base standard :D

I still need to finalise Unit markings for the army before I add those, then in larger batches they are going to get a bit dusty :) Freehanding the Chevrons seems to have come out alright though the Legion symbol needs some work I think!

And a rear view :D

Looking at the photos im noticing a few more things to tidy up too (Always the way!).

The link is broken. I think you forgot to include the last parenthesis. It's an interesting group, though I can't really picture an Astartes on skis. laugh.png

As I said, I'm looking forward to the fortifications. The latest updates are good, 'squad flail' looks pretty brutal (must be those chainswords).

Cheers guys :D I do like a side order of Chainswords ;) Arg! Fixed the link, youd think i could get copy/paste right biggrin.png Youre right, skis do seem a bit farfetched though! I was really playing around with Jager or Raider but settled on Sissi to be a special snowflake msn-wink.gif

Antenocitis workshop are back from their break and have slabs back in stock so im ordering a couple of packs now to get cracking with the new trenches (And add some more to the existing bits) so whenever they arrive expect an update, they should hopefully be fairly rapid through the first stages, im hoping to put down some chevrons in the trenches themselves with the results of the Snappy Stencils kickstarter too, which should be here fairly sharpish too, then ive just got to blag some yellow spray!

Even on a buying spree theres always something you need...

Anyhow the next 5 are also at final stages, PIP:

Im thinking of using some Blood for the Blood God on the marine removing his damaged Lid, its hard to make it obvious but not cartoonish though :/

Rear:

Though Speaking of cartoonish the Legion symbols need work on a few of them as shown here! Annoyingly my micro fibre pen appears to have died sad.png

As ive been a good boy with Tactical Marines, I get to do Rapiers or Dreadnought next biggrin.png Im fighting hard not to order more Dreadnoughts in fact, but my credit card is already weeping in the corner msn-wink.gif

Another Day, another update, i think my keen is in full flow to keep things moving biggrin.png

First Up Rapiers!

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c188/Noserenda/Models/Iron%20Warriors/1003856_10152161568515797_240143023_n.jpg

Because im cheap ive kept them generic looking so I can use them in a few armies, I have some Mantic Thudd guns lying around somewhere i will do similarly and knock up crews for Iron Warriors and Alpha Legion, possibly some others down the line biggrin.png Im not 100% on the Numerals, I plan to chip them but might also replace them with Roman Numerals or some other designation. The Rapiers arent part of the XVth, they came with the Fortress so they shouldnt match precisely.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c188/Noserenda/Models/Iron%20Warriors/1535692_10152161568605797_313467550_n.jpg

And a Rear View, you cant see it but the Batteries have green charge indicators biggrin.png Just like the infantry theres some dirt due on these bad boys, especially on the tracks! Also, i missed a load of random flash on the back, im torn about sorting it as its mostly hidden, but then id know its there...

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c188/Noserenda/Models/Iron%20Warriors/1521325_10152161568430797_468483539_n.jpg

Finally the next batch of Tactical Marines prior to the ink bath (And tidying the Metals as it turns out!). Ive mixed Breacher parts in because they look cool and I imagine any Trench Raiding operation would blag a few given the nature of their Missions under these circumstances. The Giant Chainsword is purely rule of cool, I love it but any Astartes unit that can take Heavy Chainswords can usually take better options... So a tactical marine! Albeit one who later becomes a Chaos Champion is his own right...

Oh, that heavy chainsword! *swoons*

The numerals look... clumsy? Maybe it's not the most appropriate word and it makes sense that Iron Warriors aren't art majors (they're not Blood Angels nor Emperor's Children, after all), but they clash with the rest of the model to me. Maybe weathering will help.

That said, they all look good. They'll be even better after the inks.

"We aint some XIV mud grubbers, we aint prancing XIXth
Legion cowards and we sure as hell aint whatever the XXth get up to. We're IVth
Legion Light Infantry so we do things our way."

Captain Lauri Thornsson XV Sissi

Modified from the Terran concept by the hardy Alpine troops
of Olympia the Sissi Companies of the IVth Legion are a rather different beast
than the more common Recon or Guerrilla specialists in their Brother Legions.
Well armed and equipped but lightly supported they favoured independent action
against the enemy, frequently from behind their lines which proved particularly
effective during the Heresy as few expected such deployments from the Iron
Warriors.

When not engaging in "Motti" encirclements in the field these troops
proved effective trench raiders, moving carefully forward under cover of night
and sowing destruction and confusion amongst the enemy before withdrawing back
to friendly lines.

The XVth were one of two Sissi Companies assigned to the XIIth Grand Company
and they enjoyed much favour under Warsmith Mano Kovisto who himself hailed
from the wilds of Olympia but with his death at Istvaan V his replacement
Warsmith Dauphine Attritius considered such tactics beneath the Iron Warriors.
As a consequence the XVth was largely assigned garrison or second line duties
throughout the "Age of Darkness".

This then put them directly in the path of an X Legion Splinter force in the
third year of the Heresy...

Hehe :D I think youre right about the numerals, ive painted over for now while I have a think, Ive been considering Etched Brass which i should be able to just add and blend in. Ive made a bit of progress before work today but ill finish up and photograph tonight as my plans have fallen through :/

'Ooooh... I wonder what's going on in here...

Holy hell.'

Great stuff mate. You've got a collection that would put most to shame. Really nice use of other Legions bits too. I'm a big fan of your Platoon Sergeant. It's really interesting to see how different people use that Champion body and how they all end up looking completely different. Well done!

Your painting's clear and crisp as well, with just the right amount of oil and grime to it. Keep it up!

Thankyou Chief :D See this is the kinda nice things I try to say but mangle and just end up hitting the like button! Very true about the Champion too, I only wish more people experimented with the Praetors, that said they are all fine models stock, i just cant leave a model as is :D

More updates too, Ive decided to cover the Numbers for now and think about brass etch, the crews are nearly ready for the Inking alongside the gallant Lieutenant.

Meanwhile ive finished the Previous Batch, though again things need tidying in photos that looked fine before!

Still definitely need to work on my Iron Skull freehands :D

And a rear view, showing how tooled up the Sissi are with blades, pistols and shotguns ;) In fact im considering getting a recon squad with shotguns mostly because they look badass (And have a vox!). Im hoping to get these finished tonight or tomorrow before I go out for the weekend, then i await more spraying weather :/ (Though i did sneak something in between rainstorms that may show up later...)
