As an Overview ive got quite a lot of Alpha Legion bits and Pieces, set Pre Heresy im planning to build the entire First Armoured Battalion, Several Tank Companies and Mechanised/Support Companies in Support. Things are generally flexible but this is the current guidelines...

Alpha Legion 1st Armoured Battalion

The Alpha Legions 1st Armoured Battalion is not the glorious position it might have been in other Legions, the hammer of tanks is often utilised in operations but the role is often that of an Executioner, Necessary rather than valued.

Assassin Company (Commander Matthias "Matt" Trakker)

Despite low expectations Terran Born Commander Trakker has performed excellently in the role and is a noted Tank Ace in his own right. He works closely with Legion Command and has apparently declined offers of more Prestigious roles in favour of remaining with the 1st.

Assassin company is a general purpose Tactical unit on paper but many of its members, especially in "Baker" and "Castle" Squadrons are notable Tank hunters and often called in when anti armour support is needed. "Delta" Squadron is best known for their Fearless approach to rough terrain, bringing point blank death to the enemies of Mankind wherever they lurk.

Effigy Company (Captain Cholon Grenz)

Captain Cholon Grenz is a Terran of the old order, previously a Senior Praetor in the XXth Legions Assault Companies he sports considerable bionics and has been unwilling to compromise on *Data Fragmented* which saw him transferred to the "Second line" armour Companies. He may be disillusioned and disdainful of the Post Primarch Legion but still serves to the best of his ability for the Emperor and Mankind. He specialises in coordinating with Infantry Support and is still known and respected amongst some of the Terran Infantry Captains.

Effigy Company is the Battalions Heavy Unit, facing the toughest enemy threats and smashing them with the Armoured Might of the Astartes head on. It was originally comprised entirely of Assault pattern Malcadors but these have taken heavy losses over the Crusade down to just "Effigy" Squadron and are therefore Supplemented by the newly issued "Father" Squadron's Sicarian Battle Tanks and "Gila" Squadron's Sicarian Venators for Fire Support as well as the Rare, (For the XXth) Fellblade "Habeus" originally the Company's command vehicle before Grenz insisted on riding directly with a Malcador squadron and switched Designations.

Infidel Company is another Strike Company, specialising in destroying Fortifications and flushing out infantry units. With fire Support from "Jaguar" Squadron, "Kilo" and "Lemur" squadrons close and unleash the Power of their Inferno and Magna Melta cannons on the foe. The Company never works alone, usually in concert with Infantry elements to hold ground and other Armour units to provide ranged support.

Some more Tactical Marines, Again displaying the tooled up look, My only regret with this project is using so many E-tools on my White Scars that I only had a handful left for these guys, I experimented with some bolt action ones but they looked too small :/ Really happy with the bare headed guys face so ofc i didnt get it in shot... Ill try to remember for his finished shot!

Now a Platoon worth of Sergeants :) Not great shots of these guy unfortunately, my camera fu is still godawful! The Sergeants exemplify the Rough actions of their men, 1 Squad is charging, another warily advancing and the last sitting pretty. Hopefully you can guess which is which! The Senior Sergeant (Centurion) came out well, im happy with his hazard stripe brush :D Though the ruins on his base took ages to get looking right, hopefully they do!

On the Right you can see One of the Sergants has lost his helm to enemy fire, (he needs blood on his face still), the closeup was a blurry mess but you can at least see the discarded lid with burning crest here.

And the Banner bearers, the carrying of the formal flags is something dictated from above (And Battlefield not running away-ness) and not popular with the bearers but they nonetheless grin and bear the weight of sniper fire. They are built from Chaos Knight lances and marine backbanners :) They will get devices when I can decide on them!

I intended to do a layout of the WIP bits but it was too big for my bed! I have my extra Slabs in now as shown though so things are proceeding again, trimming down trench end pieces aint half tedious though... Ill admit again to focusing more on the Infantry, its getting biblical the amount of rain the uk is getting recently which literally puts a dampener on my basecoating plans, especially when the involve half a dozen spray cans and masking tape ;)

Left to right, some base coated Iron Warriors ready for the Inking, The First Five Razorwire fences I have from 4 Ground (Another 15 or so to go) which are drying before I either add the wire or ink them, not sure if they need painting or not really? If I do itll be an ink and a highlight really, the wire will get weathered ofc :) And finally the last 5 from this undercoating batch the heavy support squad! Theyve had a few bits and pieces done from colours i had left over on the palette, so grenades and purity seals mostly :P

After this lot its more terrain if the weather clears up or I dare the landlords wrath and do another small infantry batch inside if it doesn't  :/

Hmmm just remembered I need to do the engulfing sands on the fort too, definitely going to need a clear day for that!

Day 32. Siege of Trajan. 2nd Year of the Heresy. Redentor Cluster.
 

Distant Artillery Fire hammered the mighty walls of Trajan
and the moonless night was lit only by the glow of distant fires. Across the no
mans land between the City and its attackers nothing moved amidst the shell blasted
ruins. Or so it would seem to a casual observer.



Third Platoon moved carefully through the blasted suburb, keeping to the
shadows and timing their movements to the artillery when needed. They were soon
in sight of the Enemy trenches, the last hundred yards or so completely
flattened to provide a killing field.



3 Squad moved to covering positions, their designated Marksmen checking the
sights on their Stalker bolters and motioning to each other to divide up
targets. The Other Two Squads began to slowly belly crawl forwards through the
ash and dust, slowly and carefully and with barely a sound past the muffled
sound of their armour.



When they were about halfway across, Sergeant Gheed looked back and briefly
flashed his eyelenses to a brighter red in sequence. His counterpart nodded and
sent back a tightbeam transmission to their own lines. Shortly the whistling
sound of incoming Ordnance came in and everyone sought what cover they could, a
direct hit would vaporise even Astartes.



As the shells landed the 3 Squads marksmen opened fire, picking off the
remaining sentries watching no mans land even as a rogue shell came down in the
midst of 2 Squad, Ironclad limbs flew through the air amidst the carnage.
Sergeant Gheed didnt notice, he was busy counting the shells landing ahead of
them, Ten, Eleven, Twelve... The Gunners aim switched up to suppress the wall
guns and sickly blooms of Phosphex joined the High Explosives, Meanwhile the XV
stormed to their feet and sprinted to the enemy trench line.



Corporal Gunn was the first to the line, he leapt the main trench and moved
down into a branch leading to a Bunker, Vostroyans were emerging from the
Dugout and Gunn Shouldered aside his first victim and broke him against the
wall. A Second lunged with a bayonet, eyes wide with fear as it glanced off and
Gunn sent him flying back into his comrades with his assault shield, it had
been a bastard to lug across no mans land but it was an Asset now! Lasfire
began to patter off it as Gunn charged into the doorway, effortlessly driving a
half dozen troops down ahead of him. The Shield clanged against the Bunkers
plascrete lintel and he lifted it a little to bowl in the frag grenade he held
in his right hand, the tangle of bodies on the step making it impossible to
roll into the bunker's grenade sump.



With a low thump and a clatter of shrapnel the grenade detonated and Gunn
stepped in and swept the Bunker with his bolter, nothing was left of the first
few mortals and a series of bolt shots rang out to silence the wounded and
disorientated survivors.



Along the line the story was the same, Outmatched Vostroyans torn to shreds by
the Pitiless Iron Warriors and not one of the Xth to stand against them face to
face. The Platoon placed its charges and fell back as a counter attack was
forming and fire began to come down from the wall once more. As the Iron
Warriors fell back in good order through the Suburbs the enemy trench erupted
in a fresh series of explosions, completely demolishing the fortifications and
slaughtering the counter attackers as they moved cautiously in.



Not a Bad night thought Sergeant Gheed, though he would have words with the
Artillery idiots about his two dead brothers...

The LT of yours definitely looks awesome as well as the rest of your Iron Warriros. Seeing it all makes me want to build walls and call in some artillery!

Many thanks dude Yeah theyve definitely grown on me too, the LT is mostly Deathshroud though and they are a bit more "Gothic" (If that makes any sense!) You should definitely go with the walls and artillery!

The Pic is one i got from a google search for my pintrest visual reference, id link it but it would make me look like a gushing fanboy of all the excellent Iron Warriors on this forum (Up until i started the project, been slacking since!), so ive dug up the original image link, I cropped down a corner as the Dreadnought, whilst awesome, looks a bit post heresy for me.

Why thankyou :D Yeah the first thing I thought when I saw them was that I could use those bionic bits somewhere :D Mixing up the variants keeps things fresh I feel, especially the Breachers and Iron Hands but i wish id got more of the original Mk3 set to mix in too! I felt the same about the silver too, fortunately the ink wash works wonders dulling it down, i had some faith as my buddies use the same Spray followed by dip, i was hoping the Ink would have a better, more controlled effect and that seem borne out so far...

Speak of the devil, the latest batch of Tactical Marines! A slightly larger batch as theres an odd number overall. In common with the others they are tooled up for Bolter, Pistol and CC Weapon and a lovely blend of Axes, Machetes and Chainswords they are too :D Centre Left im particularly happy with after ordering some of the new grenade hands, I was confused and dismayed to find they are Left handed which frakked up a few poses i had mostly finished (Teach me to be keen i guess...) but this model, pulling a grenade from his belt really worked out I hope.

The rear view showing most of the webbing, this took a long while as I did the whole lot all at once (And used up every pistol ive collected in my many years!) . I wanted them laden with kit which runs counter to my own preference for minimal gear (In models and on the larping/airsoft field) . Ive carried weapons in all these positions with mixed successes, especially the Axe one but then theres no easy way to carry an axe at your belt :D I find it really helps the flow of critical kit. The other pouches and grenades are stuck in to fill space ill admit though ;)

Next on the desk, Heavy Support Section! (If i dont get distracted by more 4ground ruins :D )

Thanks again brothers :D I do hate contentless updates but ive run into a bit of writers block with the Missile Launchers and stalled a bit, the remaining 20 or so are now drying in their sprays though so hopefully more soon even if they continue to stymie me!

Definitely :D Cheers, I agonised for a while on him but he came out alright, glad i didnt use the bare head i got for him in the end!

The Sicarian is definitely plain, I usually add some Legion Markings and weathering but with the Alpha Legion book out in just a few weeks (Squeeeeee) I thought it best to wait just in case, Its been enough of a pain integrating Legion and the other novels over the years lol.

Ive been thinking that myself with the Blank faceplates, im half thinking about reconfiguring the Army into Veterans rather than Tacticals and a theoretical fourth Sergeant is definitely getting a blank faced helm with Sharks teeth (I love em!).

Ok so a bit of a slack week on the Power Armour front but updates ahoy!

First up the finished Heavy support section. These guys arent full time but rather part of the tactical squad who have lifted some Missile Launchers while they are on static defence duties and they are thus lead by a Corporal rather than a full Sergeant. He has another Iron Hands torso, being mostly pipe! The horns I was torn on but I could see it coming from the Iron Warriors, Olympia is similarly classical to Ultramar (But with castles) so im thinking something Minoan?

And once again they are laden with additional weapons for close encounters, no game effect for these guys but it keeps them consistent. Im Also considering reorganising the army into Veteran Tactical squads at which point they will obviously be back in the squads anyhow

I also finally managed to get some blood paint And its pretty fun to play with These two were always intended to be injured, this Marine taking some shrapnel or a blade that his helmet largely stopped and the Sergeant below basically having his helmet 90% ruined and set on fire (Really hard to photograph it though...) so corresponding use of the paint. This kind of thing is typical of the final stages before they are really finished

All stalled on my FOC! Im re reading Angel Exterminatus to get things fresher in my mind and I imagine my concept will shift a little more towards conventional, it has been pointed out I have an unhealthy love of stealth and such in my armies (Goes well with the tanks...).

Oh definitely, always handy for close encounters! I do like the FW Missile Launchers, though id prefer the IG ones some of the others have used I got these in particular very reasonably :) Though seeing as Tank Hunters got defanged I really should have gone for Lascannons! (Darn Spartans...)

I also used my free postage voucher to pick up a small order of mk4 bits to get some more Alphas on the go, I picked up a box of random marine plastics on the cheap a while back and thought id make a start on the bits I had to hand, Kitbashing is a lot easier to pick up and play than painting :)

This Badboy is a Librarian to go along with my Terminator Platoon, I noticed you effectively get a free Power Weapon with a Legion librarian in Cataphract plate and figured that would help balance the staves terrible AP with an Axe :) He got my standard Alpharius head on too ;)

Looks great. I love the use of various bits, with the breacher heads and IH parts spread all around it creates quite a nice effect. Terminator looks good so far, is it AL or IW?

Looks great. I love the use of various bits, with the breacher heads and IH parts spread all around it creates quite a nice effect. Terminator looks good so far, is it AL or IW?

Thankyou brother! Im addicted to little swaps and flips like that :D And especially in the Iron Warriors i imagined a little more crossover between Tactical and Breacher squads. The Terminator is for the Alphas, one of my sub projects for them is various Officers in Cataphract armour for my Terminator platoon :) Ill also be able to field the Apoc Formation of Librarians once my Forgeworld order comes in :) I was very tempted to make him an Iron Warrior though... Very!

 

The Next 5 Tactical Marines are up to basic stage too, I wouldve done more but then Civ ate my evening (I was far too hanging from an engagement party last night to go out again!)

These guys have some nice poses in them, I do love twinned pistols, though now it has a game effect people and snippier about me using them :/ The Knife guy is cool too, a little awkward, maybe caught off guard slightly? And NCO pointing ;)

Rear view and more tools for bashing in heads, including a pick! Again wish I had more but my similarly lived in White scars Mechanised stole them all! A Big old Purity seal/Oath of Moment on the centre guy here too, i know these DA ones are intended for vehicles but used sparingly they work quite well on Infantry too.

 

And heres the last 15 Tactical marines until I start having to work out if I want more Dreadnoughts or Medusas next...

I got a little distracted while Multiplayer Civ crashed repeatedly this morning and knocked out a Praetor from my bits box, I realised if I want to use Rites of War ill need one!

I agonised over the pose, itd work fine for Staff fighting, im not sure itd work at all with a hammer... But then it is a Thunder Hammer and he is a super human! Its a stance to ward folks off and gain ground to pummel them flat, which is what he'll be doing in combat until I:1 anyhow :P Anyone care to guess the bitz? :D
