moivin
little update today, started neatening up the white this morning, hopefully you can see the difference to the washed undercoat and the then touched up areas, he will probably get a 2nd coat to make him nice and shiny! http://i890.photobucket.com/albums/ac106/dean_mervin/20140116_114138_zps9d9969fb.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/284611-white-templar-army-progress-log/page/3/#findComment-3570764 Share on other sites
Honda
He's looking really good and I'm glad you were able to recover him from the spraying fiasco. I think what's going to be interesting about him is that you're going to work and work and work on him and it won't look like a lot of progress, but then you'll get the details done and suddenly he'll just pop out at you and he'll look awesome. So keep plugging away. As you've already discovered, working with white is very character building. :) and he looks like he's got a seriously broken nose :-( My nose has been broken three times, his looks great. moivin
So keep plugging away. As you've already discovered, working with white is very character building. Character building or soul destroying? Once you have your technique for white down its a breeze, I picked a ruddy/dirty white because I couldn't imagine painting white like most Scars armies you see, that and I cant imagine armor being kept sparkly clean all the time! As you say, once you have the details finished it really does come together, I tend to find its finishing the metallics and the faces that makes them really come alive. moivin
ok, update for you guys today, Working solely on the sergeant to start with so here's the pics. http://i890.photobucket.com/albums/ac106/dean_mervin/IMG-20140121-WA0000_zps31675911.jpg http://i890.photobucket.com/albums/ac106/dean_mervin/IMG-20140121-WA0002_zpsc3110b02.jpg http://i890.photobucket.com/albums/ac106/dean_mervin/IMG-20140121-WA0004_zpsf92032ae.jpg So I've tidied up the white some more but there is some spillage which will need neatening at the end, added some highlights to the base color and made a start to the battle damage. I'm undecided about what to do with the grip I sculpted, Do i leave it white or go for a leather/metal grip, theres a part of me that wants to go gold/brass with it like the head of the hammer. Also what do you guys think of the green on the grav amp? I liked it to begin with but now i think it looks a little too pastel-ish, thinking about re-doing it but using some yellow along with white to make it a little more vibrant. I also wanted to bounce around an idea I've had for a legion of the damned proxy unit. I love the models and I love the whole story of the legion of the damned but there's a little part of me that is bothered by including a unit which (in the fluff) rarely turns up, if ever, and is entirely unpredictable, in an army list. To-whit, and somewhat inspired by the new FW medusans I had a plan to convert some marines to have the wargear to represent the same stat bar as the LoTD whilst having the same look and feel of my own army. I was thinking about using the grey knight models and packs with the teleporters along with some Tigirus patter FW bolters and FW seige breaker shields. I would beef up the grey knight minis with GS/plasticard to make them look a little tougher (more like MKII armor) and to move away from the GK iconography Fluff wise I would have a similar back story to the Iron Hands Medusans, a last ditch breacher unit which have a one way teleporter incorporated into their armor, given weapons to make a mockery of cover and armor strong enough to withstand the full brunt of enemy fortifications. anyway, thanks for reading guys C&C encouraged as usual. moivin
update time! So I have got this guy to a happy tabletop standard now, going to make a start on the other 2 now. http://i890.photobucket.com/albums/ac106/dean_mervin/IMG-20140123-WA0000_zps4948e0e5.jpg http://i890.photobucket.com/albums/ac106/dean_mervin/IMG-20140123-WA0002_zps1278280a.jpg Also what did you guys think about my LoTD proxy unit? I'm on the precipice of ordering parts.... As always C&C encouraged. moivin
Ok, nothing to do with centurions today, instead a little conversion on my new Land speeder storm. I kitbashed a little cover for a magnetized, nose mounted heavy weapon, rather than having the heavy weapon mounted on the passenger seat. Ive used an old hunter killer missile to represent the cerberus launcher, i may go ahead and stick on another one yet,m i think it looks a little small on its own, there's the sensor thingy for the hunter killer on the other side of the speeder in the same place but it is out of shot. http://i890.photobucket.com/albums/ac106/dean_mervin/IMG-20140128-WA0001_zpsa6828e9f.jpg http://i890.photobucket.com/albums/ac106/dean_mervin/IMG-20140128-WA0003_zps45aac468.jpg http://i890.photobucket.com/albums/ac106/dean_mervin/IMG-20140128-WA0007_zpsc015e434.jpg http://i890.photobucket.com/albums/ac106/dean_mervin/IMG-20140128-WA0005_zps583761a9.jpg I know the multi melta is a little squint, I'll deal with that soon. It has always bothered me that the heavy weapon is manned by a passenger however it doesn't need one to be fired. At least on a battlewagon the bolt-on big shootas have to be manned by passengers before they can shoot!! I plan to try and convert the 5 scouts that come with the kit to look semi normal on standard bases in the week, might take a lot of GS and cursing to get them looking good however..... Also, a question for the group. I started painting my techmarine the other day and have now gone on to using nuln oil instead of badab black to wash the white and shade the recess', its HORRIBLE! it comes out really glossy and doesn't do very nice things to white paint. Does anyone else have any recepies or alternative washes that they would use to replace Badab black? Thanks for looking guys, C&C much appreciated. moivin
cool beans, I'll look it up Have you had any experience with weathering powders? I'm tempted to get a grey/ashen colour to try and dirty up my foot sloggers a bit. moivin
Went to work on the crew for the Land speeder storm today, converted them to fit on bases and not look crazy. Hope you guys like them. I also made myself a cassius proxy, scared about new nid players! its a pretty simple head and arm swap on the Helbrecht model. http://i890.photobucket.com/albums/ac106/dean_mervin/IMG-20140204-WA0000_zps4ea11ff5.jpg http://i890.photobucket.com/albums/ac106/dean_mervin/IMG-20140204-WA0004_zps1c7b394e.jpg http://i890.photobucket.com/albums/ac106/dean_mervin/IMG-20140204-WA0006_zpsdb62945d.jpg http://i890.photobucket.com/albums/ac106/dean_mervin/IMG-20140204-WA0008_zpscafe0082.jpg http://i890.photobucket.com/albums/ac106/dean_mervin/IMG-20140204-WA0002_zps98668b00.jpg http://i890.photobucket.com/albums/ac106/dean_mervin/IMG-20140204-WA0010_zps5af06a29.jpg http://i890.photobucket.com/albums/ac106/dean_mervin/IMG-20140204-WA0012_zps30b23b7d.jpg http://i890.photobucket.com/albums/ac106/dean_mervin/IMG-20140204-WA0014_zps588d869b.jpg As always C&C most welcome. Squeaky
Cool stuff love the libby/chaplain and the double hammers on your Calgar conversation, no such thing as over kill. Also cool scouts and really dynamic poses with the centurions. I didn't think it possible to make them look like they would actually be able to move faster than a gentle crawl :). moivin
@Squeaky Thanks man, just had a look through your WIP posts and some of your sculpting work is epic. Getting the centurions mobile wasn't really as difficult as you might expect, using armour plates cleverly and thinking about basing first makes things much easier. Essentially I start with an idea and bodge the thing until it works! Hopefully I might have some more paint coming up soon, deffo wanna get my centurions finished before the end of the month, might put in a good effort next week to have all 3 finished. @Speccy Thanks as always :-) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/284611-white-templar-army-progress-log/page/3/#findComment-3588316 Share on other sites
