I have decided to make this my work in progress thread. I will be covering my three main armies, Space Wolves, Word Bearers, and Night Lords. I also am working on a Nurgle Daemon army to ally to my chaos forces. Here in lies the musings of my mind, and my ability to obsess over one little project only to be taken by another idea a moment later... So sit back and enjoy the ride!!

 

I have taken up the banner of Chaos. And in doing so, I wish to record the journey here online, so that when they finally find me naked, scared, and foaming at the mouth raving about nightgaunts and things that should not be, there will be a map leading to the one treasure we all seek. Now I am unsure what that one thing is at this time, but I know that as things come to me, ideas and visions, the puzzle in my mind will slowly assemble. In the meantime, I will pour those visions from my skull on these virtual pages.

 

The XVIIth legion has several appealing things about it for me. I too often find myself diving into things at a scary pace. A fervor, if you will. The idea of bringing to heel, forces more powerful or awe inspiring than one's own self is truly a powerful idea indeed. And in that the ability for me to not only build and paint a space marine army, but four daemon armies as well allows me to release the monsters in my head. I will be starting with a small core force of chaos marines. Two troop choices, two Heldrake's, Obliterators, and a handful of HQ choices. From there I get to dabble into all four gods realms, lets see if I emerge unscathed!!

 

With the idea of the Word Bearers using demons to further their own means, and revering only the ones powerful enough to be untamed will let me build up forces for all four chaos gods. So once the core marine force is together, I will begin to convert and assemble a daemon prince, herald, and any other unit that strikes my fancy.

 

I'm not sure what else to say in this opening post. So here's some pictures of the Nurgle themed Heldrake I am currently working on. They are only a teaser, but worry not, I am taking pictures as I go!!

Update time:

 

Here's a few more shots of the little progress I have made on the nurgle heldrake. I've used poster tack to hold it together so far. But I really like the look of it!!

The head and neck will have some heavy greenstuff on the underside. A gas canister and tubing will protrude from one side and there will be entrails hanging down.

I also got the base mostly done. I used cork board to build up layers, covered them with liquid greenstuff and now that I have some of the new Agrellan Earth I'll be adding that. Then the bare plastic will be covered with Nurgle's Rot, which is the same style I will be using to base the rest of the army. A festering bog, if you will.

And lastly, these will be the arms. I will be attaching the tendrils to the arms them selves and that will add both texture and a more 'chaosy' look.

So I have decided to work on one of the four chaos gods at a time to ally with my Word Bearers force. And the reason you're not seeing any marines is that I have all of these kits and bits lying around mixing up ideas in my little brain. So the first of those gods, and my personal favorite (:cuss saving the best for last!!) is Nurgle.

 

Each daemon allied force will have a prince and a single squad of troops. From there I will branch out and build any unit that strikes my fancy. I will also convert a Heldrake, or something that acts as a counts as, for each chaos god. So yeah, I've got a lot of work ahead of me!!

 

Had to put the Heldrake aside for a couple days while I wait for it's exhaust pipes to arrive. But as I mentioned in my previous post, I had a daemon prince on my workbench as well. I'm really happy with the 'head', so much so that I want to get some photo's up of it tonight before I go to bed.

Nothing unusual yet. I'll GSing some bloated sack of guts and boils onto his abdomen soon. The wings are from the Plague drone kit, which as you'll see I am using a lot on this piece.

 Again, not GS work yet, but I wanted to add a little more strength to the look of the wings and to differentiate the prince from the drones that I will more likely than not add to my collection in the future. It's one of my favorite kits to date!!

Hey thanks daemonclaw!! That was certainly a piece of the inspiration for this model!!

 

So working with GS is quickly becoming something I enjoy, not hate. I'm getting better at it and having a community to take inspiration, pointers, and tutorials from is certainly helpful!!

 

This is the first step of the bloated stomach I referred to previously. I'll be adding additional layers to it once this one hardens. I've sanded the sockets the wings will insert into as well and am about to drill the pin holes for them. Once that is done then it's time to build up the back and arms.

I am intentionally keeping the GS rough and pocky, it fits the decayed nurgleque look I am going for. Plus I think it will help play up the layered effect of skin folds I am planning for this guy.  Anyways, back to the bench and possibly a bit more work on the Heldrake!! I also just got a package in the mail will all kinds of chaos marine goodies in it, so I should probably start assembling some marines to show you guys. How many of you looked in here and said "HEY!! I don't see any Word Bearers!!"?? Bearer with me!! (har har har...)

The psychic maelstrom that began to whip around the feet of Lord Tarnol Soron began to take shapes of things from children's stories and nightmares. A wind of marvelous evil sang like the voice of a angel, plucked from her perch and shaped into her own cacophonous dirge. Her song sang through a neck with no throat. His voice gruff and strong above it all. The cries of men who's beings had been remade centuries ago echoed his own, both in comradery and in pain. Most screamed, foam forming in the corners of their mouths. While a blessed few fell to the daemons, writhing in ecstasy as the glorious hosts broke bone and crushed organs within.

 

He spoke of truth and of hellfire as his voice reached a fiery, cackling oratory. Faces within the flames snapping at his body, and being repelled by the magnitude of his soul. Crushed back, away from his person as if hit with the force of all four gods at once. They screamed back into the fire, only to rise again to the surface, as if excited by the fervor themselves.

 

His sermon was all.

His sermon was none.

His sermon was done...

These will be the bits, that along with some green stuff, will become Tarnol. I'm using the DV Chaplin body, the DV Chaos lord plasma gun and arm, Raptor shoulder pads, ravenguard powermaul, bits from here and there...

 

I want to mount the horns from the chaos lord onto the skull helmet from the chaplin, but I am not sure how it would look. Any suggestions?? Thoughts??

I hope to get him built up in the next couple of days, so you all can see some Word Bearers!!

The horns will look pretty good on the skull helmet I think, I would use plastic cement to hold them on instead of super glue so they don't break off every time you breath near him though.  Have you considered using a power mace from the DW Command Squad box for the accursed crozius?

I wouldn't thought to use rubber cement, Mikhail. Thanks for the tip!! And I just don't care for the DWK mauls all that much... Plus the one I have in the picture is just so menacing looking!!

I'm still working out the bits you don't see on him... I've decided that his cloak will have an ethereal flame licking up it, so that's what you are seeing on the front. Plus it hides the print molded onto the model. I have sanded most of the giant DA symbol off of the back of the robe, and will be using the flame to hide some of the remaining pieces of it. And I am going to set some faces set into the flames. I am working on a bit of back story that may be similar to Lucius himself... A cloak that collects faces from enemies slain by it's wearer... We'll see. I took some photos of the progress I made on the Heldrake, but my camera is a piece of :cuss, and it's not wanting to upload anymore pictures right now... More soon?? I hope so...

Whoa guys!! So many responses since I last posted!! /sarcasm

 

Not really a lot of progress anyways here. I've been sick as all hell with the worst flu I think I've ever had...

I've stalled out on the lord for a couple of reasons. 1. I'm not sure about his load out. I might switch the plasma pistol to a combi weapon, which ties into 2. his pose is a little, er, off. So I am going to possibly magnetize the arms. Possibly.

 

I have managed to get 3 marines together, but I am awaiting some bits in the mail. Once they arrive, I'll get some paint on them. I hope that will attract a little more attention here!! :P I've ordered a LOT ob bits from my favorite online bits seller and those should also be here any day. In that order is tons of banners, flags, and Word Bearery bits. So more marines soon!! Anywho, here's the marines in their current state:

I can't decide if I will keep Garviel as a SoH or do a little GS work and make him into a dynamic Asp. Champ. of possibly some other main character in my army. Any suggestions?? \

And the MkII armor is also a conundrum... I'm thinking since I don't have arms/heads/anything else for that era, I might just bash them into some marines throughout my army. I would also acquire some other marks so that they don't look off if that ends up being what I do with them. OR, I can purchase the remainder of the pieces I would need to make a MkII squad, possibly Havocs with Autocannons... Suggestions??

having a bit of a veteran thread i must say it can get quite quiet and lonely here watching the tumbleweedwink.png but you get used to it after a while

i have to say loving the skullhelm does it have a face underneath or am i mistaken? and your greenwork is coming on beautifully
