Raven Guard Captain

Here is my completed Raven Guard Captain. Hope you like him! It was a really treat of a model to paint.

The photos don't really do the blood effect justice, but I think I am going to go back and touch it up with more silver to break it up a bit. Other than that, I am quite happy with it. Thoughts?

Thanks for all the love and support, brothers!

@BrotherCaptainArkhan - I did that before painting but the sword was determined to keep curling back. While it is still majorly wonky, believe me when I tell you that it is 300x better than it was! It looked like a power boomerang... hmmmm... now that could be fun!

Again, thanks for all of the positive feedback! Makes me want to get back to my studio ASAP!

To answer some direct questions:

@100heathens - Absolutely! I started with a coat of straight Wazdakka Red and then did a coat of watered down Abaddon Black. I was nervous I would overpower the red, so I really watered down the black to probably a 4:1 ratio of water:paint. Once this dried, I built back up to Wazdakka Red using watered down layers (probably about 3:1 of water:paint), making sure to leave the dark from the black wash in the recesses but smothing the blend to the raised surfaces. I then used watered down (3:1) Evil Sunz Scarlet to highlight the raised surfaces some more. Finally I did a final watered down highlight (4:1 as this is rather bright) of Trol Slayer Orange on the highest points.

I hope that makes sense.

The trick is to use really thin layers of watered down paints. This makes it a lot easier to blend from layer to layer.

Feel free to message me if I confused you.

@Tarvik - Probably not. At least not for quite some time. I am an Ultramarines man by nature. But, if my friend asks me to do something, I won't turn it down!

@Lord Lorne Walkier - I had a hard time learning about the company colors. Seems you Raven Guard are a mysterious lot. I read a lot saying there were no company colors and that colors were only assigned to squad types (i.e. red for assault squads, green for tacticals) but then read where other people assume the Raven Guard use the markings listed in the Codex Astartes. So, since my friend hasn't finished painting his army, I didn't want to limit his interpretation of Raven Guard markings. But, to me, the red cloak signifies he is part of the Third Company.
