Blood Angels by TAJ (army WiP)

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow hobbyists! Decided to stop stuffing around and actually produce a whole army of around 1500pts. I have chosen Blood Angels purely because i just read Fear to Tread and really enjoyed it. I also think the red and gold color scheme is really striking.

Below is my test model, for any of you that follow youtuber Striking Scorpion will have seen this before as i am using his guide as a basis for my BA's.

started out by cleaning the parts and priming in grey.

Next step was a spray with Blood Red.

Then started on the base colors of the model.

Unsure if the red is dark enough...especially after the highlighting goes on.

More to follow. C@C welcome! ty.

Thanks for the advice Infyrana! The wash sure did help but i still think i would like it a touch darker, maybe a black undercoat will do the trick.

This is the wash stage.

Then finally after all the highlights.

Don't mind the base as i was trialing the use of pigments and way over did it >.<

First Squad is about 90% complete, waiting on some Secret Weapon bases to arrive and some touch up.

Once these guys are finished i'll post them up. Next on the list to do is a Black Reach dreddy converted with my spare Furioso parts for a more Blood Angel feel.

Over all it seems you know what to do with a brush, so I'll give you some ideas to chew over;

1. The pre-shading is fairly common with scale modellers and is a good idea. However, using black creates a problem you don't want especially with red. Black shading will suck any colour and dull the layer above it. For this reason I'd suggest swapping to using a dark blue for the shading in future

2. Shade red with either blue or green in the deep recesses to add depth to the red

3. Take the sharpest red highlights up to a human flesh colour, whatever GW calls it these days, and use a thin red glaze to bind it all together. You could try this on a boot or something first before you apply it to a whole model. BTW if you want a more brilliant red finish then glaze with yellow as a final step

4. You need to put a gloss coat of varnish down before the transfers are applied followed by MIcroSet and Sol to get rid of the silvering. Check the million YouTube videos for more advice on the technique.

Love the conversions and can't wait to see them fully painted. yes.gif

Thanks Silver Fang!

@DarkMark  thanks for the tips i will be sure to try it out as i have 2 Stormravens, Pred and a Vidicator to go. As for the flesh tone highlights, I did use Kislev for the final highlight and glazed it back with bloodletter, Maybe i went to heavy with the glaze or the camera dindnt pick it up. I have also fixed the transfers issue now, they dont have the shine anymore!

The chappy is up soon as he is my HQ Blacklord, cant wait to start it and im thinking of some freehand on the cloak!  (shiver!)

Hey fellow hobbyists!

Decided to start on my Hq today and before I new it he was finished! Was really fun to paint and I think he is a clean tabletop standard.

I also challenge you to find a more colorful Chaplain! It wasn't my intend, just turned out that way.

Hardly had to paint any black which is good cause i don't know how >.<!

OOO!  Brother Taj, can you post some closeups of the Secret Weapon bases?  I just ordered a set of the "urban streets" recently, but it looks like you ordered Urban Rubble.  I'd like to see the detail on them (if you don't mind)

Really digging your razorbacks and DV chaplain conversion!
