  3. Hello guys, after a while away I'm slowly getting back into the hobby (Kill- team at least). Going back the my roots with the blood angels, I've been working a little on my own successors. Listening to Devastation of Baal has inspired this little project also reading the Bloodquest 40k comics and replaying the Soul Reaver games. Angels Venaria (Hunting Angels) Founding M.34 Geneseed: Sanguinius Homeworld: Nosgarath Fortress: The Pillar of Silence Chapter Master: Raziel the Soul Eater A dark chapter of the sanguinary brotherhood, the Angels Venaria are secretive yet renowned Xenos hunters. An insular and often isolationist chapter, they have many dark secrets and have been thought lost many times throughout their history. Despite their blood thirsty endeavours, they have a compassion for humanity that is little shown by other astartes, perhaps to alleviate the guilt of their transgressions. A crusading chapter, their Venator fleets range into the depths of Imperial space and the void beyond, hunting their chosen prey in the Eldar and all their kin. In order to slake their lust for battle and blood, enacting the necessary crimson harvest their brothers demand. They are forever searching for the relics and archotech they believe will save their chapter from the genetic afflictions that could eventually see them all dammed. Angels Venaria Kill-Team - The Exiles - My Character line up - V.Sgt Malakaius - The First Fang Aged veteran commander, psychically afflicted with the chapters darkest secret. Kandinor The Rageful Fallen Sanguinary Guard, verging on the edge of his sanity. Brother Rapha the Swordsman Assault marine, famed master Swordsman. Gunner Lucion Flamesinger Veteran gunner, artist with a Flamer. Brother Viko the Patient Stealth hunter and exceptional marksman. Brother Dhuma the Dour Tactical genius, advisor, stalwart astartes. Brother Zahriel Bone Taker Macabre brother, fixated upon death both his and the foes. totem of death. Brother Phosan - Keeper of the Sceaming Skulls. Veteran marine, Vox comm and recon specialist. Brother Kryphon the Whirlwind Grim devastator, walking missile battery. Brother Crestoff the Vengeful Honoured Veteran, on a personal quest of vengeance. Brother Darakan the Insatiable Veteran warrior, with an unquenchable thirst. V.Sgt Malakaius Brother Rapha the Swordsman Heavy gunner - gunner - warrior 3 warriors "To feast upon the vitae of the Xenos is a necessary shame, To devour the rotten husk of the corrupt is abomination, To feed upon the life essence of those we swore to protect is eternal damnnation. We are the saviours of mankind, humanity is not our prey, they are the herd we were bred to protect." I'm in the process of converting and building these marines, the chapter does not even have a set color scheme as of yet but I have a few ideas. I'll be updating this as I go.
  4. Jolemai's stroll into this channel convinced me to release my HH contributions. I've really just posted this in the BA channel so precious little is "new" but on going I'll start posting new stuff here too. For reference, the local PNW group just do ZM for the vast majority of games. I specifically paint up units in order to fit in ZM 1k so no "big boys" yet. So to start this out, Here is my Delagatus (or praetor). Apologies for not finishing the base yet. I've been concentrating on painting new stuff rather than revisit my first squads. Next, my Legion assault marines. Same with the Delegatus, I moved on before painting the bases. Also, I know my white balance is all over the place but my wife insists I need to go outside for these. I am not convinced but happy wife etc etc. Mortis Contemptor Dreadnought
  5. THE SIN EATERS Starting things off with my current (and Leviathan-supported) army project, a Blood Angels successor with a focus on pre-Sanguinius Legion practices. A full in-universe description of the chapter may follow, but for now the basics: An old BA successor from back when they still made those, that has chosen to combat the Red Thirst by delving into the auto-cannibalistic practices of the legion back before the reunification with their Primarch. They make a habit of eating their own dead, and where the Legion once used the eaten memories to quickly train-up new recruits, or let new officers more easily take the position of their fallen predecessors the Sin Eaters have spent the last ~10,000 years getting weird with it. 'Gestalt consciousnesses made of generations of cannibalised space marines living on from body to body' weird with it. Did this actually control the Red Thirst? Not really! We'll cover the Black Rage when I start working on the Death Company. For the models themselves, my plan here is to convert or kitbash every model in the army, at least a little. I've chosen a pretty simple, basic-bitch colour scheme, and will be focusing on my freehanding when possible, something I avoided with my last army. Now! On to the models: My first squad, and the only one I was able to complete before an upcoming move that has seen all my Warhammer boxed up and in transit, is a 5-man Assault Intercessor squad, largely as a test. Better lighting conditions will, hopefully, be available at the new place. The models are a mix of easy-build assault intercessors and normal intercessors, with heads from all over my bits-box, plus a few printed bits, mostly helmets and the odd shoulder. I'm aiming for a mix of Firstborn and Primaris marines, or at least armour. Given their taste for resurrection via devouring it's not uncommon for Sin Eaters to 'Cross the Rubicon' by being killed in combat, and being eaten by one of those factory-fresh, hypno-indoctrinated Primaris marines. I've been learning how to paint more diverse skintones for my GSC army, and will be continuing that here for those few models going helmetless. Not really evident here on the Sergeant, but a reminder to myself. Between that and the freehanding I'm hoping to come out of this with some new skills. Anyway, that's the start! Let me know what you think, and I'll post the only other finished model when I get some free time.
  6. Hello fellow Blood Angel brethren. I finally decided to step out of the shadow and share my stuff with you. It took me quite a while (years) to even create an account for B&C, but here I am. I hope to get some painting motivation by sharing my stuff with you and please feel free to critizise my work and help me improve. So, who am I? I live in Germany and mostly play friendly games with my friends. We have some competative thoughts behind our lists, but mainly it's for the fun and not the victory. As a teenager my first encounter with GW was Space Quest, or for the non european people Space Crusade. Since then I was driven to the guys in red and after I got the 2nd edition starter box, I decided to clad those space warriors in red. Here I am, over two decades later and sharing my stuff with you. BA are not my only army, but my most beloved and by far most played. I still have some minis from back then and don't mind using them in games. As this thread grows, I'm sure you'll see some sins from the past and many models that are still WIP for more then ten years or even longer. Also my painting skills have improved over the years, but as I am a slow painter I never bothered to touch a finished mini again, bare the most severe cases. Since the realease of contrast paint I switched to them, as I think they really speed up my painting and used right can give you a wonderful result. So here I present you some of my finished HQ choices:
  7. Nothing to see here The content is in another castle or just start here http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/222538-another-diy-chapter-blog-for-the-omnissiah-9514/?p=2963992
  8. Hey Guys! So, like so many others here, I've decided to create a PLOG (or BLOG) for the creation of my primaris army. Important: I plan to actually try and get around to painting this stuff, unlike my hundreds of standard Blood Angels Astartes. The original goal had been to build the starter set and get those painted, but a nice chap I know offered to trade his Primaris for my Death Guard, which i (unsurprisingly) accepted. I had also ordered a few bits from Bits and Kits too... Anyway, so why do I care about Primaris? For me they look how I've always imagined marines, the proportions look so much better than just about any True Scale marine I've seen, although there are a few that I thing come pretty close. I also am in the minority, in that I like the way the background is going, I actually like the idea that the Imperium isn't on a total back foot for the first time in probably the full 10 millenia since the Heresy! I can totally get behind the idea that a secret project to create better Astartes was sanctioned but because of the bureaucracy and shear inefficiency of the Imperium, such a project could then languish when it was desperately needed. Sure, I get that it's "Just GW trying to sell models", of course it is, its a business. But for me at least, I actually like the way the background is going (WE MOVED FORWARD IN TIME! HOORAY!!). As some of you may know, I've been in the hobby around 21 years now. And I've also been a member of this forum for the since 2004, I've seen so many inspirational things come out of this forum and I'm always greatful for the awesome stuff people come up with! So thanks for that As any of you that came across my old Blood Angels blog, or maybe some of my older porjects even on here will know, I usually like to do fairly substantial conversions, lots of reposing and sculpting. I imagine this project will eventually get more of that too, but for now, I'm focusing on keeping things reasonably simple, so I can get things to a point I'm happy to paint in a reasonable amount of time and (hopefully!) actually get stuff painted. I'll still be doing conversions on things of course, but probably not much in the way of heavy sculpting beyond stuff like hair and little details. The concept for my army, will be the soldiers assigned to 2nd Company to replenish it after the events of Angels Blade/Traitors Hate and then the Devastation of Baal. Once that book (or other helpful sources) comes out, I'll probably do a minor reshuffle to fit whatever official format GW Assigns Primaris in the Blood Angels chapter. I am hoping the info on existing Astartes being 'upgraded' proves to be true, but if not I'll work around it. But I'd like to 'upgrade' my Aphael to Primaris status, probably once I've got the new captain in hand and can work it out. Anyway, so here's what I've done so far! EVERY IMAGE IS CLICKABLE TO SEE A LARGER VERSION What you see above is Four Intercessor squads, Two Hellblaster squads, Three Ancients, Four Lieutenants and a Captain in Gravis Armour. There are also a set of Intercessors, but I cannot finish building those till I have painted the heads and sprayed the bodies. For the Lieutenants, I have built two stock, with a a shoulder pad change on one of them and some BA blood drop bling added to both - didnt bother taking extra pictures of those two. I then have a second ranged Lieutenant with a bit more of an involved conversion: He has a hand from one lieutenant, body from the other, an arm from a lieutenant with the hand from a sergeant, a shoulder pad swap, replaced the pistol on his waist with one from the mk3 kit, head from a hellblaster sergeant. Overall I'm pretty happy that I've managed to make him quite distinctive from the standard two. I then have probably my favourite model so far - Again, the conversion is simple, but I feel it's worked very nicely for pose, leaning forward like he has just completed an arcing slash with the sword. I need to sculpt hair on him still, unsure on exact style I'll go for, probably messy short hair. For the Intercessors, Squad 1: This squad has a few shoulder pad swaps (every squad has a few), Sergeant is close to stock, different right arm (one from a lieutenant, with the bolter from the sergeant, used the sergeant arm, but replaced the hand with one holding a bolter clip from the blood angels tactical squad. Sqaud 2: This unit is almost built stock, just some shoulder pad changes. Squad 3: This squad again had a few shoulder pad changes, sergeant uses a bionic arm from devastators, head is a sergeant head with hair shaved down (he'll stay bald), quite happy with how he looks. Squad 4: This unit is again, fairly stock, simple head swap on the walking and shooting marine, sergeant had a shoulder swap (this was the first unit I built) Next Is Ancient 1 and Hellblaster Squad 2: The Hellblaster squad has every model with a shoulder swap, sergeant uses head from a Lieutentant and has both pads swapped.Ancient is totally stock except for a tiny bit of BA bling added to his belt (one of the scroll pouches). Ancient 2, Hellblaster Squad 1 and Ancient 3: Ancient 2 has a head from assault squad and both shoulder pads replaced. Hellblasters have a couple pads replaced but are otherwise totally standard, Ancient 3 has a bolter arm from a sergeant, head from devastators and a little bling added to his backpack, banner top replaced with a bit from BA tactical kit - I see this Ancient as a marine that was 'upgraded', or if that turns out to not be something that happens, one of the first BA Primaris, along the lines of the Ancient from Dark Imperium Book. And finally, a shot of Everything that is built as it stands: The Gravis Captains back isn't stuck on, so I can paint the helmet easier. It's a stock model, I'm thinking of trying to do a fairly elaborate conversion with the second, but thats low priority for now. So, still to build I have: a third hellblaster squad, a fifth intercessor squad, a second inceptor squad, a second gravis captain and two more lieutenants. I plan to build the Inceptors for sure, but may hold off on the others for now. I will definitely be picking up two Repulsors, a Redemptor, both the regular and birthday Captains, the Librarian and probably just the one set of Reivers for the time being. I personally love the Repulsor, it looks awesome, I'm very interested to see the rules for it, I am excited to see how it plays and hopeful that it'll help with Primaris playability on the table - I recognise that they aren't deemed good currently. The Redemptor looks great, I am interested to see what build options it has, something with a smaller central plate would be good, and I'm really wanting an exposed helmet sat in there instead of the sarcophagus, but think I may be able to convert that using spare BA dread bits anyway. The HQ models all look good, albeit a little unexciting, but they'll also likely be where I focus most of my conversion efforts. The Reivers show great promise in concept, and I absolutely love the stripped down armour, but the poses aren't great, so I'll see what I can do there... a fellow Frater over in the BA forum suggested they might look good with Alabaster Death Masks... and now I need to at least look at that for an option!. Anyway, if you got this far, thanks for reading! C&C welcome as always.
  9. Welcome to the bits database dedicated to the Blood Angels! As I'm sure you're all aware, Blood Angels (Chapter and their Successor) players currently live in a time where Games Workshop and Forge World offer a wealth of bits and pieces for that all important conversion and/or kitbash. These can be purchased on their respective websites, popular auction websites or bits resellers. However, for those who want the cheaper option or who want something more unique, what about the third party sources out there? The list below is for that. 10. Hi guys! I've been playing Warhammer 40k for over a decade now, and have my fair share of armies. I've had small blogs scattered on various forums before, but most haven't been updated in years, are archived and/or are filled with dead images. So I figured I'd just consolidate everything into a single blog, showing some of my older stuff and then continue with stuff I'm working on now or in the future. Apologies if you've seen some of the stuff before. I'm not the fastest nor the best painter, and with my short attention span I generally move between projects often to keep me from getting bored on painting the same stuff constantly. So here's my stuff, I hope you enjoy! I'll update this first post as an index to the posts with content for easy future reference. Tyranids - Hive Fleet Leviathan This was my first army which I started in 2008, after me and a few friends got into the hobby from playing the Dawn of War video games. I just loved the little gribblies and big monsters. Too inexperienced to realize beige is a pain in the ass to paint, I settled on a Leviathan-esque paint job before Hive Fleet Adaptations were a thing. Zoanthrope - Done Carnifex - 1, 2 Gants - Done Gargoyles - Done Trygon - Done Winged Hive Tyrant - Done Hive Crone - Done Swarmlord & Tyrant Guard - Done Tervigon - Done Exocrine - Done Haruspex - Done Tyrannofex - Done Deathleaper - Done Maleceptor - Done Old One Eye - Done Tyranid Warriors w/ Ranged Bio-Weapons - Done Grey Knights I always had a weak spot for the Daemonhunters, so I started this army in 2011 when the first plastic GK models came out together with their 5th edition codex. I also started experimenting with an airbrush around this time after failing to paint their power weapons one too many times (I still fail at blending). Haven't done much with them since 7th really after the Inquisition and Grey Knights got split up in separate codexes, and their current edition codex just feels lacking. Librarian - Done Brotherhood Ancient - Done Apothecary - Done Kaldor Draigo - Done Terminators/Paladins - Done Strike Squad - Done Purifiers - Done Inquisitor Coteaz - Done Ordo Malleus Inquisitor - Done Vindicare Assassin - Done Dreadnought - Done Venerable Dreadnought - Done Nemesis Dreadknight - Done Land Raider - Done Stormraven - Done Eldar - Craftworld Saim-Hann I started collecting Saim-Hann when their 6th edition codex came out in 2013, when the plastic wind riders and wraithguard came out. Jetbikes and wraith constructs are my two favourite aspects about Craftworld Eldar and I liked the vibrant red of Saim-Hann. That they matched the jetbike playstyle didn't hurt either, of course. Autarch Skyrunner - Done Farseer Skyrunner - Done Windriders - Done Vyper - Done Dire Avengers - Done Wave Serpent - Done Fire Prism - Done War Walker - Done Crimson Hunter - Done Spiritseer - Done Wraithguard - Done Wraithlord - Done Wraithknight - Done Blood Angels - 5th Company 'Daemonbanes' I wanted to do a Space Marine army for a while, as the Grey Knight model range is (still) very limited, and I kept seeing one new Astartes release after another that I couldn't include in my army. While I originally intended to do a custom chapter, I already had a Space Hulk set and a Deathstorm box for my Tyranids, so I figured I might as well just do Blood Angels as I already liked their background and already had those models anyway. So in 2015 I began working on the Sons of Sanguinius. Since the previous armies were relatively clean looking, I went for a more grimmer, weathered look for these. I picked the 5th company as the main focus, simply because I liked the black blood drop of that company's insignia best to match the darker look I was going for, plus it seems thematic to ally with my Grey Knights considering they're called the Daemonbanes. Sanguinary Priest - Done Commander Dante - Done Sanguinary Guard - Done Assault Squad - Done Bike Squad - Done Librarian - Done Librarian Dreadnought - Done Furioso Dreadnought - Done Deredeo Dreadnought - Done Death Company Dreadnought - Done Lemartes - Done Death Company - Done Baal Predator - Done Relic Sicaran Battle Tank - Done Drop Pod - Done Sniper Scout Squad - Done Close Combat Scout Squad - Done Captain - Done Suppressor Squad - WIP 1, Done Thunderhawk Gunship - WIP 1, WIP 2 Adeptus Mechanicus & Imperial Knights - Forgeworld Xana II & House Malinax Always been a fan of the AdMech, and generally I go for the tech-priest character in any of the 40k RPGs I've done over the years. After snagging two cheap knights from a Renagade box and getting some Skitarii from the Kill Team starter set, I finally started with the cogboys in 2018. As I already had two red armies and didn't want a third, and I loved the colour scheme of House Malinax from FW, I decided to go with this colour scheme for the AdMech units as well. I know that lorewise they're hereteks/traitors to the Imperium, but I don't intend to go all chaosy/dark mechanicum on them. Skitarii Vanguard - WIP 1 Skitarii Rangers - WIP 1 Sicarian Infiltrators - WIP 1 Armiger Warglaive - WIP 1 Knight Warden - WIP 1 Scenery, Terrain & Gaming Room I'm lucky enough to have a spare bedroom (and a wife that lets me use it) as a dedicated hobby room, and have my own gaming table. I love building scenery, even though it takes me ages to complete any projects because of the amount of work required for the bigger projects. Gaming Table - Done Realm of Battle - Done Fortress of Redemption - Done Skyshield Landing Pad - Done Woods - Done Blastscape - Done Aquila - Done Imperial Sector Buildings - WIP 1 FW Industrial Sector - WIP 1, WIP 2 3D Printing Always wanted to get into 3D printing, but wanted to wait for a printer that could print high quality prints without having thick layer lines, had a large enough volume to tackle larger projects but was still affordable enough. This turned out to be the Phrozen Transform. 3D Printer - 1
  11. I'm looking into starting a White Scars army and have hit a bit of a snag. From looking on the Games Workshop webstore, this Blood Angels Chaplain seems to be the only one with a Jump Pack available: Has anyone converted one of these guys into a White Scars Chaplain before? If so, how did it go?
  12. Hey BnC I’ve got a couple logs up here - right now the active ones are my Iron Warriors 30k legion and my 40k Zerkers kill team. I also have a very slow progress log based around Fabius bile and the Emperor’s Children, and a Carcharadons army which is on Hiatus. So why make a fifth? The answer is simple. I love converting things. Sometimes I’ll see a piece and think it looks perfect for X Legion/Chapter/Xenos and I’ll put something together real quick. Some of my favourite kitbashes and conversions happen this way, but I have no place here to share them - so I wanted to put together a blog where I can post whatever, whenever, regardless of army. So to kick this off I’ll start with my current WIP - A late Heresy Word Bearer by the name of Myr Khothon, known as the Zealot of Cassidium Primus. Here he is a little before I finished converting him (some changes made to the right arm): And here he is now, nearing the end of painting! Here’s a close up of the glow effects on his conjuring hand as light glows through from between his fingers: LMK what you think! There’s plenty more to come, I’ve got years of conversions (Some of which are actually painted!) to share. CC welcome! Cheers
  13. I've recently begun a narrative campaign with my brothers and some friends and wanted to aggregate everything together in one place where each of us could update it as the campaign develops and we paint new stuff. To follow will be an accounting of each of our armies, including lore, painting progress, battle reports as the campaign progresses, and an outline of the narrative. I wanted to compile all the data together to construct a long term campaign we could return to since my brothers and I live in different parts of the United States. So, let this be my accounting. We'll probably see at least one other related thread on the chaos side. +++++++++++++++++++++++++INCOMING TRANSMISSION++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ CASE FILE: 338.67X.BA9.Zbv Please enter your authority code... ********************** Validating...... Thank you, Inquisitor. May the Emperor guide you. CASE STUDY OF ADEPTUS ASTARTES ASSETS IN THEATER ULTIMA SEGMENTUM LOCATION: MALEXIS SECTOR DATE: 152.M42 COMPILED BY LORD INQUISITOR AMELIA FIRENZE, ORDO HERETICUS INQUISITORIAL DATA FORTRESS, TROXUS PRIME, 138.M42 Founding Chapter: Blood Angels Founding: Unknown* Chapter Master: Malphas Home World: Iracundia Fortress Monastery: Arx Umbra Specialty: Assault, Close Quarters Combat Strength: Unknown Battle Cry: Lucem ac tenebras! THE MALEXIS SECTOR To trailing and rimward of Baal, the Malexis Sector lies roughly halfway between Sable and Quisto'rol, though closer to Angelis than not, just on the fringe of Segmentum Ultima. The sector itself is governed at Malchar Prime by the venerable Lord Governor, Quintus Proximi. Laying on the border of Ultima Segmentum, the sector is defined by its relationship to the fringes of the galaxy. The cold trade thrives here, and the exploits of Rogue Traders seeking buried secrets and riches beyond the blighted Ghoul Stars fill countless volumes in the Librarium Primus on the sector's capitol planet. Malexis has a proud history as a key supporting province and staging area for the Malcharian Crusade. Dozens of agri-worlds feed the hives across the sector, as well as the fortress worlds of Malchar IV, Oraxis, Thisellia, Rictus, and Sortia. The sector is home to six shrine worlds, four pleasure planets, and several dozen feudal and feral worlds. Notable Imperial assets include but are not limited to The Rictus Expeditionary Corps, The Malchar 25th, The Sortian 3rd (Shrieking Griffons), and the venerable knight house Alphyn, leige lords of the Justitian system. Finally, the Angels Apocryphal, in support of the Death Spectre chapter, bear the holy charge of defending the sector and maintaining the integrity of the Segmentum's borders from the greatest threats beyond the fringe. Drukhari raiding is common, as are the stranger, more sanity breaking threats that encroach from the dreaded Ghoul Stars. The Hive Fleet Jormungand, crushed by elements of the Death Spectres, bled several splinter fleets into the sector before it was defeated. Feral greenskins persist on a number of worlds within the sector, however a large scale incursion remains below the Imperial average. Heretic elements active in the sector include an unnamed Word Bearers detachment led by the Arch Abomination Orbus the Resplendent and most recently, unknown elements of the Thousand Sons led by the arcane heirophant Pho'tek Katar. IRACUNDIA Gravity locked with its parent star, the death world Iracundia is a subtly brutal place, lacking any forgiveness or mercy. Its atmosphere is surprisingly hospitable to human life. The two sides of the planet, however, represent its terrible extremes. The day side swelters at temperatures in excess of 60 degrees Celsi, depending on the season. Its inhabitants live underground, in vast compounds shielded from the star's unforgiving rays, and mine the precious metals deep below the planet's crust or harvest moisture in multilevel condensation farms and aquifers. No one goes to the night side, where the howls of ancient beasts stalk the shadows of cyclopean ice formations that have stood for millennia. Along the Meridian Primus lay the truly habitable zone. Travel long enough in any direction, and the sun begins to set. In such brutal heat, anyone would count the cooling temperatures a blessing. Eventually, the traveller will reach The Halo Sea. It is an ocean that circles the planet, crowned with an archipelago of fortress hives built atop lush, green forests that stand sentinel across the sea. Here, they guard the innocence of the day from the monstrousness of the night. At polar north stands the crown jewel, the Arx Umbra, a bastion of constant noble vigilance. Not much is known about the night side of the planet. The massive walls of Halo Bastion prevent any incursion beyond the ocean and into the tundra. From orbit, it appears as dark and lifeless as it's said to be on the surface. However, other stories also abound. Stories of what the locals call "Strigus," or the Ravenous, hint at ancient, cannibal hunters or some kind of vengeful spirit haunting the timeless canyons and ancient mountains of the planet. Local sources conflicted wildly, based seemingly on what they had grown up hearing. The case remains open at the Thisellian Enclave but no one seems overinterested in pursuing it because, as we all know, the Angels Apocryphal, while secretive, silent, and strange, are still a loyal chapter with every ounce the honour and nobility of their parent lineage. The people of Iracundia subsist at a largely stunted level of technology. Weaponry is exclusively solid projectile, with no knowledge of las or plasma tech. They rely also on fossil fuels to power their tunnel crawlers and lack the methods of refinement common throughout the Imperium. No means of mass production exist, leading to a staggering variety of mechanical and technological goods. However, all are invariably of low quality. The myriad tunnel clans fight among themselves for access to underground complexes, aquifers, oil wells, and mineral veins when not campaigning against the Rokushaki, a primeval breed of subterranean reptilian xeno also native to the planet. Other indigenous predators include the behemoths called dune dragons, the cyclopean gigapede, blood wyrms, scythe beetles, and shale spiders. Interestingly, scythe beetles can be domesticated and are frequently used as mounts by the more foolhardy clans on the surface. Recent surveys of life also note several strains of feral tyranid following the passing of Hive Fleet Jormungand, though no genestealer strains have been detected. The Halo Bastion, circling the whole of the planet in the green zone, effectively blocking passage from day side to night side, culminates at polar north in the massive fortress monastery of Arx Umbra. The first wall spans the coast of the Halo Sea. Behind it, generations of planetary defence forces have lived, mustered, and died keeping the general population safely ignorant of their place in the greater galaxy. The PDF are overseen by the 10th company's captain as something of a collateral duty. RITUALS AND PRACTICES The Angels Apocryphal have several rites that diverge from those of their brothers. First, and most notably, they have vowed never to speak to any lacking their gene seed. It was explained to me not as a matter of worthiness, but one of shame. Something compels the chapter to deny themselves communication with the Imperium at large. A notable exception to this is during wartime, but even then the commanders speak over encrypted vox channels through handpicked chapter serfs and intermediaries. Second, once selected for the reclusiam, potential chaplains must undergo a pilgrimage to the night side of Iracundia where they are expected to brave the killing cold and commune with the spirit of their Primarch. Whether or not they hear anything is unknown to all but those that make the journey. Out there, amid the terribly human howls of whatever beasts lurk the frozen landscape, the chaplains have sought out these arcane mysteries for millennia. Sanguinalia is something of a revelry to them, as it is with other chapters of Sanguinius' line. However, the somberness of the mass before the feast is something to note. The sermon is led by the chapter's Master of Sanctity, every verse punctuated by the slap and tear of bone studded leather against the backs of every marine in attendance. The blood that runs down their ragged backs collects in troughs in the floor and runs to the center of the floor in a pool at the base of the pulpit. At the end of the ceremony, the Master of Sanctity calls for the Vauldii, and every battle brother rises from his knees to drink from the pool. In this way, they reinforce their bonds of brotherhood to each other, the chapter, and the Imperium at large. Finally, the practice of tithing is something intrinsic to the Angels Apocryphal. Whenever the chapter saves an Imperial world from a given threat, they extract a tithe of people from the planet's surviving population, presumably to take as thralls back to Iracundia. No one actually knows what happens to these people, and the chapter's leadership certainly wasn't forthcoming with any information regarding them. I'm sure they don't end up as chapter serfs. These are the only rituals we've been able to document. There must be a great deal more, but they are an inclusive and secretive group. Much has been hidden from us, and the chapter's leadership are incredibly vigilant in keeping their secrets. KNOWN BATTLES The Devastation of Baal Two companies destroyed on Baal Primus, at the opening of The Rift. Golgatha IV The 4th Company, captained by Irad, invaded Golgatha IV after a cult known as the Illumine overthrew the local government. After partnering with a Black Templars crusade following the trail of heresy and death left in the wake of the daemon prince Orbus the Resplendent, Irad waged a five year war upon the cult and the detachment of Word Bearers that appeared during the war's prosecution. Finally, upon the spires of the governorial palace, Orbus was banished to the warp and a new threat was uncovered. Landrian Prime The 6th Company, captained by Vykus, confronted the forces of Uldrethi Skintaker, Archon of the Kabal of the Rent Veil. The foul creature had stripped several feudal and agri-worlds of their populations. In orbit over the skies of Landrian Prime, Vykus cast the alien from the observation deck of his own ship into the cold death in the void. Gathan Prime Most recently, while engaged with Tyranid splinter forces in system, Captain Forsus of 5th company discovered strange signals eminating from the planet's surface. Upon investigation, Forsus and his lieutenants discovered elements of the Thousand Sons led by the sorcerer Pho'tek Katar seeking something within the ruined city. Forsus and his battle brothers fought through wave after wave of Tyranid to reach the site of the incursion. However, upon arriving at the shrine the heretics occupied, Forsus fell to some unknown madness, charging headlong into the enemy line while his men sought to contain his rage. Forsus fell, and the surviving marines were forced from the battlefield. Attached are pict captures of the engagement. It is presumed by the Holy Ordos that the Angels Apocryphal will be mustering at this point to pursue this Pho'tek Katar, and discover his purpose here in the sector, as well as his connection to Orbus the Resplendent. Feel free to contact me for any further clarification. I hope and pray that this satisfies your inquiry, Lord Amarant. Be well. -as heck Forever Faithful +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++END TRANSMISSION+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Next up, painting shots taken over the last year. Current project, finishing up those vanguard vets. Hope you guys enjoy this. Look out for Pho'tek's contributions as well.
  14. Working on some Blood Angel Captains with jump packs. Parts list: Stormcast Relictor Halo, Sanguinary Guard Head, jump pack and wings, Dark Angel's Hammer, Custodes Shield, Dragonforge white metal cable, green stuff scrolls, armorum cherub, empire standard/general cherub, Dark imperium intercessor body, vanguard vet arms. If I had a better hammer I'd use it, but I've just got a couple thunder hammers about. I think the grey knight one-handed hammer is the most visually appealing. I'm not concerned about primaris size in game play, i just like the way it looks. The base is really a bit tall. This is the first time i've tried some sharp corners on cork basing. I wanted to try to get a city ruins feel to it, not just rocks. Making scrolls out of green stuff was easier than I thought. The question is whether I add more. I think I want to try some water effects... Paints: Vallejo Metal gold with 91% isypropyl thinned easily. Really nice four color gold set off of amazon. It dries really fast so pouring it in a disposable cup to use with brush painting is necessary. I like the colors, but using citadel washes was unusually difficult, and changed the complexion entirely. Not sure on what I'll do next. Using my Testors dull coat was a really bad idea in that it reacted with the vallejo metal color like a thinner. So I ended up repainting and using a non-alcohol based protective coat (pledge future floor finish--love that stuff). So I think there's a lot of promise in these gold colors, I just need to learn to use them more. I also used a badger 105 to spray it and it worked perfectly fine. The other paint techniques I want to work on are flesh tones and scroll work. All can be improved.
  15. I've been inspired by the various project logs by all of you glorious contributors and decided to start a thread to show my work thus far. I chose Blood Angels because I had started a BA army long ago when I was in my early teens, regrettably that army was sold off long ago. Of course my painting skills were largely miserable back then as well. Not that they're incredible now, but I'm quite happy with how things have turned out comparatively. As I got back into the hobby two years ago I first picked up a Death Company Strike Force box: Death Company Marines The jump packs are all magnetized should I ever decide to run them on foot or in a transport. Also, approximately half of the shoulders are magnetized to allow weapon swaps. I have three power fists and two inferno pistols primed waiting for paint. I intend to run them with three power swords and three fists. I also need to decide on how to paint my power swords, I've hidden them among the group in this photo intentionally. Death Company Dreadnought Captain #1 A very simple conversion from the Blood Angels Chaplain. The head is from http://conversionworld.de. I intended to add a shield from the same site, but it didn't fit as well against the wings as I wanted. I wouldn't say I'm happy with how the wings turned out, it's a very simple dry bush job. My color selection at the time was pretty limited and I didn't want to directly copy the box art, though I haven't strayed far from it on the rest of the model. Assault Terminators After finishing the DC box I picked up a box of Blood Angels Terminators purely for nostalgia's sake. They were my favorite unit when I was younger, and I ran them in a Land Raider Crusader. Eventually I plan on running them in a Stormraven, which was always a dream model for me as I would flip through catalogs as a kid. All of the shoulders are magnetized, and one of the shields is magnetized at the wrist should I ever decide to run a Terminator Ancient. And this Christmas I received a box of Vanguard Veterans, Blood Angels Command Squad, and some Helverins. Captain #2 I've used the Veterans and Command Squad bits to build another Captain. As my favorite model thus far I've tentatively named him Captain Luther due to my man-crush on Idris Elba and his character. I enjoy the lore side of the game though I'm far from well-versed in it; does Captain Luther conflict with any existing lore? He also has two lightning claws to swap out, though they're only base coated at this point. The jump pack and shoulders are magnetized. And lastly for now, the Armiger Helverins. Though they aren't specifically Blood Angels I very much enjoy them with my army, and have nowhere else I'm particularly interested in showing them off. A self-made house inspired by Duncan's House Griffith painted Knights showcased on Warhammer Community. The paint job is the only aspect I've decided on definitively. Knights will have more royal colors, blues, purples, etc whenever I get the opportunity to acquire more. The next two models I'm working on painting are a Lieutenant and Company Champion built from the Command Squad box and upgrade sprue. This thread isn't likely to be expanded rapidly as my hobby budget is pretty thin and has been for the last two years. The upside to that is nearly all of my models have been painted. My most obvious plan for the future is to buy and build some troops, which I'm sorely missing. These will most likely be Scouts as I know they're one of the two best options. I'm a competitive person in most things, though I do everything I can to hide it in the moment. It's a shame about Tactical Marines, as I loved them as a kid. In fact seeing my friend's starter box of Marines is what first got me into the hobby. At the current time I'm mildly opposed Primaris Marines, mostly because they didn't exist when I was first in the hobby, and like I said I'm largely inspired by nostalgia. Thank you so much for reading and any input, hopefully updates won't be too sparse.
  16. Hey folks, returning to the BA side of the miniature hobby after a long and entertaining run in the rather medieval fields of the ruined Warhammer world and it’s unofficial successor, T9A. This list is made up from stuff that I used to use in 6th or paint up to get used in 7th. I never got a game in the 7th ed I think, so here we are now. Some of this is painted(link in my signature:) ) and some of it will see paint in the ETL. Without further ado, 2000 points of Blood Angels: Battleforged + 3 CP Armoury of Baal -1 CP Selections: 1 additional Relic of Baal Battalion + 5 CP - HQ - Captain - Warlord Selfless Valour Inferno pistol, Jump Pack, Relic blade, Relic: The Angel's Wing (replaces jump pack) Chaplain - Troops - Scout Squad - bolters x5 Scout Squad - 5x Combat knife Scout Squad - 5x sniper rifles and Camo Cloaks - Elites - Sanguinary Ancient Selections: Angelus boltgun, Death mask, Encarmine sword Sanguinary Guard - 8 men, 2 plasma pistols Terminator Assault Squad - 5xThunder hammer and storm shield - Fast Attack - Assault Squad - 5 men, 2x Melta - Heavy Support - Devastator Squad: Armorium Cherub, 5 men, 2x lascannon Whirlwind Storm bolter, Whirlwind vengeance launcher - Flyer - Stormraven Gunship Selections: 2x Stormstrike missile launcher, Twin lascannon, Twin multi-melta Battalion Detachment +5CP - HQ - Librarian Dreadnought Melta gun Sanguinary Priest - relic: The Veritas Vitae - Troops - Scout Squad - 5x combat knives Scout Squad - 4x bolters, 1x heavy bolters Tactical Squad - 5x, 1 missile launcher, Chainsword, Storm bolter on sarge 2000 on the spot! 17. Hiya, Blood Angels player here, but I figure this applies across most Astartes subfactions. I've got two Lieutenants (not Primaris) and are they any good? I've fielded them a couple times and I have no real opinion on them. They make a good, cheap HQ option.
  18. Okay, this Chapter just got itself a bit of a face-lift. I was pretty satisfied with it, but I always kind of felt it was never complete. Original first post, including the previous article, are contained as a spoiler at the bottom of this post. As always, C&C is requested. They shall be pure of heart and strong of body, untainted by doubt and unsullied by self-aggrandizement. They will be bright stars on the firmament of battle, Angels of Death whose shining wings bring swift annihilation to the enemies of Man. So it shall be for a thousand times for a thousand years, unto the very end of eternity and the extinction of mortal flesh. -- Codex Astartes Origins “The grey army is at our gates, to drag us down into the dust where they crawl. Their poison seeps through. But we stand and we cry, we are with God! And with God, we will die!” – The Savior King speaks, 999.M41 Captain Galgalliel of the Archangels, the First Company of the Blood Angels Chapter, had a long, illustrious career, including nearly four centuries as Captain of the Chapter’s most elite forces, before given one of the greatest honors known to the Astartes. In the 35th millennium, the 11th Founding was declared, and the Archangel Galgalliel selected to command a newborn Chapter formed from the blood of Sanguinius. In honor of the revered dead, the Chapter was given the name the Angels Penumbral, marking them the first of that name for nearly two millennia. The Archangel quickly forged the Chapter into the very personification of wrath, striking down the heresies of the weak and the impurities of the alien. To them went the consecrated world of Aggelos, deep within the Principalities, an isolated collection of nearly two hundred systems. The Principalities were under near total domination by Ecclesiarchal authorities. However, in spite of the often poor relations between the Adeptus Astartes and the Ecclesiarchy, the Angels Penumbral readily adapted and conformed, in no small part due to the stubborn faiths of their granted home world. Their relationship grew, so that the two would often work in concert and to each other’s benefit. The ministry would send word to the Angels of heretics to be eradicated and cults to be exterminated. The most significant example was the Purging of the Conclave in M39. Local Inquisitors had acquired evidence that a Chapter of the Adeptus Astartes, the Conclave, had become thoroughly corrupted by the influences of Chaos. With the secretive Dark Angels spearheading the assault, the Religio Dominus, the hereditary ruler and spiritual leader of the Principalities, asked of the more forthcoming Angels Penumbral to participate in the hunt. The taskforce struggled for three years against the Conclave, until finally the corrupted Chapter was shattered, with few of the treacherous renegades escaping. Word had it that the renegades split into small, fractured Conclaves that scattered to the winds, but it was decreed that the threat to the Imperium no longer required the Angels’ presence. Since then, the Angels Penumbral have harbored a distrust of their cousins, those sons of the Lion. Recently, with the Tyranids invading the Imperium en masse, the Principalities have become under assault by a splinterfleet, officially labeled the Gorinech Tendril. The Angels Penumbral, to their great shame, took the threat too lightly at first. Dozens of the Principalities’ worlds along the trailing edge fell almost overnight. The Angels Penumbral have since declared all-out war and the entire Chapter has mobilized in attempts to stem the all-devouring tide. The Angels, in coordination with the coalition of local military, are holding out for an organized Crusade to push the xenos out of the Sector. However, these efforts have been hampered by subterfuge from unknown quarters, and the alien hordes have managed to continue slowly their inexorable push forward to the Imperial core, against all resistance and the fury of angels. Home World “When the brown rock turn black at the sight of blood, and the fallen sun hovers overhead, do not sheathe your blade or cease in the bloodletting. Nothing angers an angel more than passivity.” – Proverb by the Holy Scrivener Seshayyim Aggelos is a large rocky world deep within the Principalities. Classified as a delta-class Death World, Aggelos suffers from unstable tectonic activity, making earthquakes and volcanic eruptions commonplace. It has a verdant belt of vegetation that girdles the planet, but largely Aggelos is a dry world of hot sands and rocky formations. The Angels Penumbral have, in surveying their world, located multiple points of relative stability across the planet. Here, they have planted immense, circular towers, filled to bursting with technologies that allow them to observe and record the Aggelians. The Aggelians themselves are a fractured, feudal people, often at war with themselves over meager resources in the never-ending struggle for survival. As all of the mortal populations within the Principalities are, the Aggelians are zealous followers of the Imperial Creed. War has become indelibly inscribed in their religious faiths. They believe that all conflict is to the betterment of the human species. Each variation of faith on Aggelos, and there are many, believe fully and truly that only they are in the right, and must wage war against all those in the wrong, by extension everyone else. It is done in the name of the God-Emperor, and anything less would be an affront to His Divinity. To the people of Aggelos, the Angelspires, as they know them, are revered places of worship. The world’s greatest city-states have formed at their base, upon the skeletal remains of other great civilizations, which had eventually lost the fight for a space next to divinity. Such cities are sprawling masses of low buildings, for it is sacrilege to create anything of unnecessary height, for to do so is to defy the works of the angels. In the shifting oceans of sand, the nomadic tribes thrive, who survive by trading between cities or raiding them, and who covet and fight to the death over every found oasis. Though there exists on Aggelos a temperate zone, teeming with plant and wild life, no Aggelian would dare risk venture within its shadowed depths. The angels have decreed the gardens of Aggelos off-limits to mortal kind, and to defy them is to welcome certain death. The Angels keep close watch over Aggelos, especially during times of great conflict. Many battles have been ended abruptly as the Angels fall from their fortress-monastery on pillars of flame, smiting the unworthy as they extricate those promising few. The fortress-monastery, styled Sol Invictus, is a large orbital plate, not unlike those see on Terra. The plate hovers over Aggelos, high among the clouds. It is a marvel of design and architecture, its outer faces composed of shifting white marble and reflective glass. Even in the darkness of Aggelos’ moonless night, the home of angels shines with blinding light. As much as the Angels have become incorporated into the belief systems of the Aggelians, so have the Aggelian faiths been incorporated into the Chapter Cult. The Aggelian mortals see the Angels much as the Angels see themselves, as the vengeance and wrath of the Divine Emperor made of His Own Flesh descended upon the galaxy. However, there are those that see them as dark figures, terrible demons that fall upon their most promising young warriors as a means to cull them and keep them weak. It is no secret within the Chapter what is done with such mortal cults. Though many fear that some long forgotten incident of their own flaws is what instigated such beliefs. No recruits are taken from such faiths, and whispers on desert wind will rouse the faith’s rivals against them. Only one apocryphal faith has resisted the usual attempts at extermination, led by a messianic figure known simply as the savior king. Founded 973.M41, the savior king refuses to acknowledge the divine heritage of the angels, and sees their father and his brothers as hyper-inflated stories of mortal men. The God-Emperor is a spiritual entity, the truest essence of Godhood, not a physical Man who was God. Worship of those who claimed to be His sons is tantamount to idolatry and deemed heretical. Many among the Angels Penumbral have decried the cult; that they must take an active hand in eradicating it, which has grown in strength of late. Many within the Chapter fear that to allow this cult to live comes with the risk of letting in one indoctrinated to its twisted faith. By the end of the 41st millennium, the Chapter Master has finally given in to the demands of the concerned. It may be too late. Combat Doctrine “And war came to the heaven, as the angels fought the dragon, and the dragon feasted upon the angels.” -- Retribution 21:7; apocryphal The Angels Penumbral are a wave of fury, preferring to meet enemies head-on where they can make their physical strengths count the most. With the high preference for jump packs and aerial assaults typical of the sons of Sanguinius, the Angels plummet from the heavens, slamming into and crushing their foes from above. Battle-brothers of the Adeptus Astartes are the avenging Angels of Death and the Angels Penumbral lay claim to that title like no other. They roar into battle with the screaming of jetfire accentuating the fervently yelling Marines as the Chaplains lead them through the catechisms. The blasphemy of the daemon, impurity of the xenos and heresy of the traitor are zealously intoned as the Angels cut them down with sword and roaring bolter. The Angels Penumbral fear the day their curse becomes commonly known, for with such a realization they may be deemed irretrievably damned. As such, the Angels Penumbral are infamous for being the lone survivors in many a conflict, where only the Angels are aware of the truth of the battle. Organisation “And the Son of Man came into His glory, and with Him upon His last days were His Angels, then did He sit upon the Throne of His glory.” – attrib. Adina, the First Apostle The Chapter adheres closely to the Codex Astartes in organization, more so than other sacred sons of the Angel Sanguinius do. Even the Blood Angels, the foremost inheritors of Sanguinius, deviate in order to compensate for the shared curse of the Sanguinian bloodline. The Angels Penumbral do not share in this deviation, though adherence to the Codex is not the reason underlying this fact. The Angels Penumbral do not field a Death Company. Those who suffer from the curse, on or off the battlefield, are restrained and imprisoned within the Sarcophagaem. This dark and brooding ship ferries the damned to their place of execution. So on guard are they that there have been times the ship has been entered only to find sane Marines who have overcome momentary lapses of judgment and merely lost control over their anger, however this is never enough to stay the execution. Though those who suffer the Black Rage are treated with attempts at dignity and mercy, for their anger is honest if not righteous, those who suffer the Red Thirst are not treated with such. Not unlike the Commissars of the mortal Imperial Guard, the Angels will kill their brother, immediately and without hesitation. The Chapter reveres their first Archangel and his primary advisor, Reclusiarch Zephirem, and the Chapter has retained this pairing as a traditional element of their command structure. Though Zephirem was part of the Chapter’s Reclusiam, these advisors can and do come from any of the auxiliary organizations, though dominantly from the Reclusiam. Beliefs “For we wrestle not against the flesh and blood of the Principalities, nor against its powers, but against the hidden rulers of the darkness within this world, against the spiritual wickedness in low places.” – Archangel Yehosho’a of the Corporeals, 991.M41 The Angels Penumbral believe in a truth that few other Chapters have the courage to accept. They believe fully in the divinity of the God-Emperor. Due to their own genetic links to the God-Emperor, this religious belief extends to themselves. The Emperor is God, His sons are born of His Flesh and His Soul, and the Astartes are His Angels. Within Sol Invictus, the pious Marines show reverence to their dead within their extensive crypts, the Sheofon. The Sheofon consist of rows upon rows of interred remains, majestic statues depicting the fallen in their primacy overlooking those who pay sacred homage. Nearly all of the Angels who have fallen over the millennia have their remains within Sheofon. Even those with no remains to be found, or who have been executed in the throes of Black Rage, still have a place. Only to those who succumb to the Red Thirst are denied place. Though all know the overwhelming temptation to give into their curse, those who do have forsaken the brilliant divinity within and damn themselves. Their mortal body remains blasphemously alive, but the true Angel died as he succumbed. Those who have given in to the Black Rage are remembered for who they once were. Those who indulge in the infernal hunger of the Red Thirst are stricken from all records, regardless of whatever prestige they had in life. Gene-Seed “These words spake Sanguinius, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thy Throne.” – Ged’on Eli of Khasawet The Angels Penumbral are made in the God-Emperor's image, granted a fraction of His Divinity with which they may be the instruments of His Wrath. The blood of the Angel, holiest of the Nine Divines and from which the Chapter is named, flows through their veins, granting them his strength and nobility, but also his flaws. Though closest in perfection than any other of that esteemed pantheon and fashioned most in the God-Emperor's own image, Sanguinius suffered most of all the myriad flaws of man, from which he had been forged. The terrible thirst and anger that haunted this distant and holy son of the God-Emperor haunts still his children, and few more so than the Angels Penumbral. None within the Chapter knows why, though they have sought and craved to Him on Earth for a release from its constant presence for ages to no avail. The best that they can do is to excise those who exhibit the curses as quickly as possible, lest its corruptive nature spread further. Battle Cry "Unto the Godless, death!” Here are a couple new images. I'm rather fond of the bronzed helm to go along with the pauldrons, but I included one without so I can get some input. http://i.imgur.com/VmOQnLz.jpg http://i.imgur.com/h0SIufa.jpg
  19. Hi guys Disclaimer - these are for my own collection only and will not be sold or traded, I am not endorsing this as an alternative to 28mm 40K, as the work required is extream, its just a personal challange for my modeling skills, and I thought this project may be of interest to some here. As well as collecting GW figures, I also have a large 15mm sci fi collection, and I have decided, (mainly for the fun of it, and to see if I could do it) to create serveral 15mm 40K forces, the forces I will be creating will be done in this order, Blood Angels or Flesh tearers - not 100% sure yet, I really like the Fleash Tearers, but because they are 15mm I want an instantly recognizable Chapter and I want it to be brightly coloured to stand out as much as possible, so Blood Angels maybe more suitable. Tyranid Death guard Imperial guard Tau Realistically, this is probably a decades worth of work. The Blood Angel force will consist of 3 x 10 man tactical squads the commanders will be sculpted from scratch, 1 x 5 man devastator squad with sculpted commander, 1 x 10 man Assault squad in jump packs, 1 x 10 man Death company Assault squad in jump packs, 1 x 10 man scout squad with shot guns, 1 x 5 man Terminator squad with lightening claws, 1 x 5 man terminator squad with bolters, the termies will probably need to be sculpted from scratch unless I find something suitable to convert and a command squad consisting of 1 commander, 1 Chaplain, 1 apothecary, a standard bearer, and a Veteran Sgt, I may also have a librarian. They will be supported by 2 dreadnoughts from GW and some converted armoured vehicles. Visit my blog on the link below to see more pics. Visit My Website
  20. Greetings. So, I have been hard at work creating a new Blood Drinkers army. My first attempt at a codex chapter (Death Spectres) met with unsatisfactory results, so I have decided to stick with what I am familiar. This is my first test model; a Blood Drinkers Primaris Aggressor. The lighting in the photo washes out some of the highlighting. Hopefully, it still conveys a reasonable representation of what I am trying to achieve. As I was painting this model, it occurred to me that there is a bit of conflict concerning the Blood Drinkers squad and company markings. Every current source I was able to review indicates that the Blood Drinkers are organized according to the Codex Astartes with regards to squad and company markings (i.e. squad number and specialty markings on the right shoulder), yet these same sources indicate that the entire chapter shares the same color scheme of red armor with gold trim. So, my question (which I hope others may have some useful insights into) is how does the Chapter indicate company designation on their armor?
  21. Hi guys and gals, First of all, a bit of background on me and the army before the juicy stuff, I'm a long time lurker, first time poster, and permanent procrastinator when it comes to hobby! So I thought that I'd actually get of off my behind and start an army that I actually fully paint to high (for me at least) standard, in a reasonable timescale no less. As luck would have it, over Christmas I managed to get my hands on the Primaris half of Dark Imperium, so that decided which army. As such these'll be acting as an auxiliary force to my pre-existing BA successor chapter, the Mourning Angels. The idea of the chapter is that they're an unofficial Second Founding chapter, formed of those who upon learning of Sanguinius' death wept and swore a bloody oath of vengeance against the servants of the Ruinous Powers. They believe that only through complete annihilation of the traitor legions can Sanguinius be avenged. As such they are prone to full on brutal attacks, with a disdain for stealth and anything that renders them unable to gain the satisfaction of watching the enemy fall before their very feet. So overall shear awesome firepower! Now then, after that little blurb, onto the important part, the models in the army so far (None of which are even primed; I really am very good at putting things off): Lieutenant w/ Power Sword Intercessor Squad Gallius And that's it for now. The plan is to have black power armour, red weapon casings with the chapter badge being the BA one but with gold/yellow wings and a red blood drop. I may add some other details; I was thinking of giving them a red right arm like the dusk raiders scheme. I'm going to try post on here at least once a week, if not more, to me going. I'd love to hear what people think, DHK

Second Battle of Nuceria, XIII Legion archival log _________________ The destruction unleashed by the advent of Lorgar’s Ruinstorm was without precedent during the apocalyptic wars of the Horus Heresy. Until the war reached the shores of Sol, no other event inflicted as much sheer chaos or systemic disruption across the Imperium. Whole systems were lost to Imperial records, never to be heard from again, and on hundreds of worlds the skies split apart as the nightmarish denizens of the Immaterium poured forth from the roiling, seething tides of unreality now isolating the eastern domains of the Imperium. For those who populated the Five Hundred Worlds, the nascent empire-within-an-empire carved by honoured Guilliman and the XIII Legion, the infamy and treachery of the Word Bearers and World Eaters Legions was all too clear; in this darkest hour the state of the Imperium-that-Was – and the fate of the Throneworld itself – was unclear. Many in the highest echelons of the Five Hundred Worlds and its protectors believed the Imperium to have been irrevocably sundered. During the fateful first weeks of the Ruinstorm’s creation, the XIII Legion counterattack across the Five Hundred Worlds foundered and ground to a halt. Those planets not flensed of life by Angron’s hounds or sacrificed to malevolent powers were where the XIII Legion focussed their efforts of reconquista. Celerax Magna, a densely populated garden world on the western edge of the Five Hundred Worlds, became the stage for a brief but particularly brutal war in the weeks following the advent of the Ruinstorm. Before the Heresy, Celerax Magna had been a navigatory terminus for Imperial fleets and frequently housed members of the Navis Nobilite. Left relatively untouched by the Traitor advance, the survivors of the Navigator houses fleeing the carnage wracking the Five Hundred Worlds sequestered themselves in Celerax Magna’s teeming utopian cities, hoping to avoid the worst of the wars tearing apart Guilliman’s empire. Such a peaceful dream was as naive as it was false. As the Ruinstorm worsened, XIII Legion reserves drawn from censuria companies and VII Legion survivors of the Phall debacle spearheaded a Loyalist force from several Legions intended to secure the terminus, liberate any Navigators that could be located and with their aid forge a safe passage through the Ruinstorm, if one could be found. It was not to be so. The Traitor Legions arrived in force mere hours after the Loyalist vanguard arrived on Celerax Magna, alerted to the presence of the Navigators by powers dark and nefarious. Knowing that they could not count on reinforcement, and that to fail now would be to doom Imperial efforts to escape the Ruinstorm, the vengeful Loyalists readied themselves for a conflict that would be utterly without respite or quarter. The resulting war lasted for seven days without pause and saw the deaths of more than twelve billion souls. _________________________________ For Hatred’s Sake is a narrative doubles event made for the Age of Darkness supplement for the Warhammer 40,000 (7th edition) ruleset, with myself (BrotherCaptainArkhan) as author. In this event, players form teams of two to take on opposing teams battling for the fate of Celerax Magna. During the chaos and confusion of the Ruinstorm, the members of many Legions from both Loyalist and Traitor allegiances arrived in the domain of the Five Hundred Worlds, some by chance, some by darker design. Teams will face off across three themed scenarios, attempting to decapitate rival forces, capture valuable information that will enable them to locate the Navigator survivors who may be critical to the war effort, and finally enact their escape. This log will document the weekly buildup to the event itself, with army pictures, lore, force dispositions, themed scenarios and finally battle reports detailing the final hours of the garden world Celerax Magna, and the fate of the warriors fighting over it. _________________________________ Belligerents Loyalist force disposition VI Legion Pale Hunters VII Legion Mountainfire Company XI Legion Task Force Cornelius XIII Legion The Black One Hundred [Legion identifier missing] Strike Force Black Mamba [Legion identifier missing] First Sphere _________________ Traitor force disposition III Legion Third Company Elite VIII Legion Pythius Strike Force VIII Legion The Painted Exiles XIV Legion Death Guard XVI Legion Sons of Horus V Legion White Scars _________________ Next update: Event Rules
  23. So tinkering about with the idea of starting some Blood Angels (or at least painting some). As a Venerable (old fart) 40k fella, I have a penchant for the old orange Blood Angels. I've taken to using Vallejo for just about everything, particularly airbrushing. The trouble is I have no retailers of Vallejo nearby, so I have to order online. Since color swatches can't be relied on with a computer monitor, I can't really be sure which paints to pick out. So, any guides out there for Orange Angels using Vallejo paints, or known recipes to share? Bonus points for pictures
  24. Hi everyone! As with a lot of people out there I've been bitten by the 'New Year, New Army' bug. My local Warhammer store has started a 'Tale of Warlords' army building event, where every month you paint a character, squad, then big thing, month on month. I've always loved Blood Angels, and I've attempted to start a force a few times over the years. My problem in the past has always been buying too much plastic, enjoying playing with it, but never getting the motivation to paint it. I'm not intending to play with any unpainted models in this force - I've got other forces to play with in 40k at the moment and I want to make sure I commit to getting things painted. I've got a rough idea of where a 2k list is heading, and with that in mind I'm aiming to get the following painted over the next few months. January - Primaris Lieutenant. February - 5 Intercessors. March - Repulsor. Although this is the first post, I'm already a fair way through the Lieutenant. Here's some pics WIP pics. I've converted the model slightly - changing the blade on the power sword to one from an Encarmine blade. I've also removed the left bag and added a new one a little bit more towards the front, leaving room for the helmet. Finally, I added a new icon to the backpack - something a little more fitting for a Lieutenant. The red I've unashamedly stolen from Blindhamster, who in turn got it from the guy at GW who painted the Blood Angels Intercessors. The image above shows the base coat airbrushed on, with the recess wash added. The full colour scheme is: 50/50 Mephiston Red / Evil Suns Scarlet 50/50 Khorne Red / Abbadon Black made into a wash and put in the recesses Thick edge highlight of Evils Suns Scarlet Thin edge highlight of Troll Slayer Orange Extreme edge highlight of Fire Dragon Bright Tau Light Ocre towards the corners. Final dots of 50/50 Tau Light Ocre / White Looks like a lot of steps but it didn't take too long to complete. I'm going for 3rd company, so a diagonal red stripe on a yellow background - this took much longer than I wanted because of the curve of the shoulder pad. Thank god Averland Sunset is a base paint! I'm also getting used to writing tiny script. I don't think I've done too bad a job with this one. I really enjoy painting faces. There's a lot of detail on the Lieutenant, and I'm really happy with how it's turned out. This is a decent picture of the completed armour. I've since redone the tabard, because I wasn't happy with the transitions. The icon was a transfer that I'd then painted over to give it a little more depth. The sword blade has also since been re-silvered, as I wasn't happy with the lightning effect I'd done. This still needs to be done again. And here's where we're currently at. The tabard transitions are much nicer - I might stick another white highlight on there before reapplying another transfer. That's all for the first post. Please leave some C&C, I'm always looking to improve on my painting.
  25. We've touched on this topic in various threads before, but it came up on Dakka and I wanted to hear what you guys thought. There is a lot of debate on how the Blood Angels should play and what special rules we'll have when our Codex drops. I think part of the issue is that we suffer from an identity crisis more than any other army in 40K. People have various opinions. We're a jump pack army, we're a Codex marines army with a few special units, we're a fast mechanized army, we're a close combat army, etc. So which is it? According to the fluff in the 8th Edition Rulebook Blood Angels are: So the one common thread we get is that we're an aggressive army. That can mean a lot of things: faster movement, faster in combat, more attacks, stronger attacks, closer deep strike distance, more shots, reroll charges, longer chargers, longer consolidate, etc. Most of that stuff GW has toyed with in one way or another throughout the editions. It's obvious they don't know what the rules should be for Blood Angels either. What do you guys think? How should a Blood Angels army play? What rules should we have when our Codex finally drops?
