RE the helmets, I think two of them are Devastator heads, one is one of the standard heads Mk III that came with the kit, and the last one is a Raptor head with an optic added. Makes them look like they mean business more :devil:

 

I had a game today at my flgs, Chester, where I played (and lost!) to my bro’s Death Guard. Got a chance for a few snaps, was very impressed with the Rapiers :tu:

Awesome pics! I must say those terminators look darn good. As does everything else on the table. Rapiers always look like a fun unit to run as well. They racked up some good kills for you?

Thanks Hush - I am really happy with them - they only managed a Rhino and a Plague Crawler before out of the game but the they have a lot of firepower for taking stuff out in one hit, I might add another. The Slaaneshi marked Terminators especially with Abaddon and Strategium especially we’re good too. The Khorne Bro’s not so much, but their time will come, plenty of Speartips in the future :devil: My Daemon Prince, Dreadclaw riding CSM and Sicaran were woeful unfortunately!!

 

Thanks Son of Carnelian :D - next for the Legion is finish up my backlog of modifications/weapon options for the 8th (not much in fairness) then I am planning on finishing my Deredeo conversion and painting a Dreadclaw and my Sicaran. As for cult troops, I do like the idea of Rubrics in the Black ;)

 

EDIT - I should say, I want to finish my Khorne Termi Lord, Khargor Bane, for smaller games also!

I myself am hoping to make use of Slanneshi marked terminators backed up by Abaddon and stratagems for the Black Legion. Combi plasma squads of them have put in some good work for me in the past. Being backed up by the Despoiler himself can only make it better, right?

 

The rapier also just seems like a great unit for their firepower. I think HH had a mortar variant that was sweet but didn't make it to 40k. Still, behing able to place those into cover and in some buildings is a bonus over vehicles.

I did like the Hades Autocannon version in the 7th, but they never made it to the 8th, hence the conversions. For anti-tank they seem to do the business :tu:

 

The Slaaneshi/Plasma Termies were much better than the Khorne/Melta bro’s in this game, but rule of cool dictated I went with the melta for them when building them. My next batch I am thinking of converting Cataphractii loyalists led by a Falkus conversion (suitably mutated), but I am hesitant as Justaerin may well come out when a new Abaddon does.

Thanks for those amazing pictures! Both you and your brother's respective armies are looking absolutely wonderful on the table! What really takes the cake, however, is that winged Daemon Prince of yours -- I just cannot get over how awesome, angry and red he looks amid all that scenery. The Warmaster had best be careful... ;)

Glad you like Kraut, action shots are always the best shots! Whilst I agree with you on the angry colouring of my Daemon Prince, it is a pity he didn’t back that up with martial prowess as he got owned (by the admittedly psyker-helped) Nurgle Prince!! Khorne was displeased.

 

Incidentally, the Juan Diaz DP sculpt is still my fave 40k miniature :)

Yeah, I should have picked one up while it was still available! That guy and Be'lakor (also by Juan Diaz, incidentally) are the best DP models ever, in my opinion. The plastic kit seems like an attempt to feature nearly all the different design cues from both Juan Diaz' princes, but falls short of either, unfortunately...

Obviously the claws are magnetised - he will also have access to a combi weapons, Powerfist, Chainfist and evil artifiacts (the Axe if Blind Fury, Murdersword and the Black Mace once I build them!) I notice on the photos that the chain over the loincloth has broken away and needs some more GS.

 

He is based on Zhufor model, with design nods taken from these trio of the famous Chaos Lord artworks, the last one in particular is from my favourite -

Many thanks for the seal of approval guys, glad you like :tu: He does need a tweak here and there (I need to add some rips to the trailing edge of his cloak for example) but overall I am quite happy with him, as he is a big character of my Black Harbingers warband who comes with a metric ton of fluff and history :D

 

RE the cloak, it does take a bit of work to fit properly (see a few pages back with Kraut Scientists comments particularly :tu: ) but is is made for a Chaos Lord imho.

 

RE the added bulk, Zhufor is big. As in I had to be careful not to make him look too big next to his boss!! So I have altered the ‘hero’ rock he is atop (I actually used two). I have a long term plan of Abaddon in the middle surrounded by some of his warlords for some photos ;)

 

As for weapons, I have an axe idea nailed down (converted from the Bloodreavers) but struggling for ideas for a mace. Was thinking of going with a modified one from the Death Wing sprues, but would welcome any further ideas :tu:

Originally was purchased for my Flesh Eaters, then he was to move over to this army, then procrastination dictated he was headed to my Worldeaters project, now FINALLY I have decided to bring him back to the Black Legion after he has performed so well in test games. Looks a bit battered and dusty, and really a bit boring for a Hellforged Deredeo though doesn’t he? Watch this space for chaos-ification ;)

The mace on the Dark Apostle conversion consists of two copies of the axe from AoS's Korgos Khul, the axe blades of one glued to the shaft of the other - simple, but effective. Might be something you could do aswell, or use as inspiration for your Black Mace.

Ooh, I literally just started on a Black Legion Hellforged Deredeo this evening. Can confirm the crown-type bit from a normal Helbrute fits with a bit of a push over the cowling, if that helps any?
