”Gha d’Shend” - Spear from Afar

An ancient Hellforged Deredeo, currently piloted by Malik, The Punisher, an ex-Sons of Horus Heavy Support Legionary. Malik was interred into the captured Deredeo sarcophagus after falling in the same battle on Makan the dreadnought was taken, against the Blood Angels of Sanguinius. A favoured champion of the Black Harbingers Lord, Khargor Bane, the mortally wounded traitors’ own Havoc squad were responsible for ending the dreadnoughts participation in the battle before Malik himself was cut down in single combat by a Blood Angel sergeant. Not wanting to lose such a skilled leader and heavy weapons specialist, Bane had his Warpsmiths begin tech rituals to make the Black Legionnaire one with the Blood Angel Deredeo. Over the following years within the Eye, the ancient noble Blood Angel machine spirit and the stubborn Malik have became one, the bitterness and corruption within becoming obvious without. The dreadnought takes particular relish in destroying Sanguinius’ gene-sire, living up to its name of The Punisher, the “Gha d’Shend” - the Spear From Afar in the Black Legion mongrel tongue

Hope you like, I am really pleased with him. Whilst not perfect, I have not painted (or hobbied properly!) for so long that I had to fight dried up paints, dodgy brushes and lack of practice!! I should also be taking part in its first game since August last year, so bound to die first turn but hopefully I should get some action shots. My new years resolution is to hobby more :D

Deredeo looks ace! All the time spent converting is well worth it, wish I had your patience and skills with the green stuff moulds. Really makes your models unique.

Dragon - I am looking forward to seeing yours! It’s an awkward model, but it can look cool. I did think on using the plasma cannons from the fiend model if you were looking for ideas. Yes make a good cross between organic and machine.

 

Bjorn - got to have a little back story for your characters! The Dread was actually originally intended for my Flesh Eaters army, so there is some truth to the story really which I thought would be quite cool :D

 

Quixus - I can see what you are saying but I want to keep them as mechanical lenses rather biological eyes. He does sport a few more ‘borrowed’ from the Helbrute model if that satisfies your need for eyeballs!

Bio - cheers mate, I put a lot of work into him. The beads/rivets especially took ages!! Should look cool towering over the rest of the army. Maybe I need an army shot soon.... :tu:

 

Sepsis - I am sure he will be rolling all the one’s, though at least he will be doing it in style lol I am only alright with greenstuff moulds, my actual greenstuff work is not great but practise makes perfect I guess!

The helbrute eyeballs are cool and keeping some manufactured lenses is a great idea. Maybe differentiate them from the eyeballs a bit more by using a different colour. As is they look a bit like unfinished eyeballs to me.

I hear what you are saying on them, maybe a glowy red would be a good spot colour (I use yellow/orange for all the marine eye lenses). It’s a tough one as I don’t like things to have too many colours on and look quite uniform, and with Chaos can get quite busy in the end!

At a totally made up guesstimate percentage, I would say he is at about 68.45% done :D I must say, if this is the way the new CSM are to look, I am so glad I have held off doing my troops for so long!! Lots of fun to paint :tu:

@ Pearson - I enjoyed painting this guy immensely, and it bodes well for future Chaos Marines. I am a bit slap happy with the sponge for the chipping, but it looks well from a tabletop distance :)

 

@ bluntblade - thanks man, it’s a good kit though it’s hard to alter the pose too much because of the ammo belts. He was originally walking when destined for my Flesh Eaters but I preferred the standing pose in the end.
