Perhaps Marshal is the equivalent of Chapter Master and Seneschal that of Battalion Commander, giving Fafnir authority over several companies.

"They passed me as they filed into the granite and bronze
chamber. A hundred war leaders arrayed for battle. Intricate
silver patterns wove across the golden yellow surface of
each suit of armour, and the emblem of the clenched fist
worked in jet gleamed from chests and pauldrons. Some were
old, their faces lined and scarred; others seemed young,
though they were not. There was Pertinax, watching me with
green machine eyes. Beside him walked Cazzimus, who had
held the towers of Velga for six months. There Iago, who had
fought in the first pacification of Luna. Beside them were
marshals, siegemasters, and Legion seneschals. Between
them they carried half a millennium of
waging war."
Crimson Fist short in the Shadows of Treachery. It's a .pdf that I got by putting a .mobi through Calibre, with my own settings on font sizes and such, so me saying "Page 20" means absolutely nothing. Personally, I've always thought of them as Legion serfs, but others saw them as bodyguard units. The setting is on the flagship for the Retribution Fleet, with Alexis Pollux as the narrator.

I could have sworn they were mentioned in the Lightning Tower, but a ctrl+f search for 'seneschal' got nothing.

The reference in the Lightning Tower to which you refer might be to Dorn's 'huscarl retinue'.

Am I the only one that's confused as censored.gif as to how the Fists codify and number their formations?

62nd Squad, 55th company?

64th Squad, 344th company?

Coming into this, I had assumed the VII had 405+ Companies, each roughly a hundred men strong. Of course there's probably gaps in the numeration, (entire companies that have been destroyed, made obsolete, or rolled into other formations, etc), but are the Fists' Companies now assuming the role of Chapter-sized formations?

Perhaps its more akin to the numbering of real life military formations? Most of the sources I've seen on Space Marines show that they conventionally number their units, squads, platoons, companies, battalions, chapters, whatever, in some type of successive order.

Confused. confused.gif

AHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow. Cool to see the great crusade theme before uniting with Corax. Neat blurb on the 7th Battalion being assigned to a 'Nomad Predation Fleet' that took off into space around the time the XIX meet up with Corax. I love how FW is leaving little openings like this and the Crimson Tears for people to get really crazy with fluff ideas. Going bananas waiting for this book to drop!

EDIT: Also very happy I have yet to build my Storm Eagle reading about the RG Darkwing Pattern. That along with the shadowmasters strike squad and the dark fury assault squads have me going nuts lol.

When I saw Sigismund I almost yelled "Hail Caesar!" :)

The senehall is the person responsible for running a castle, especially if the owner is not home. So maybe he is the officer staying on their homeworld, while the rest was crusading? Of course he would have a couple units under his command, just in case.

Look like the book will be on sale this Sunday

Sadly I won't be there to get a hold of the book early. :(

I will be watching for when it's available normally like a hawk, though. ;)

Same, as soon as the book up for order I will be buying it as soon as possible. This has been the book I've been waiting for over the past two years. Also really hope to see some cool new Iron Warriors models & units!!!

Is it just me or is Sigismund way better than every other space marine character by a mile?

Do you mean his rules in the upcoming book, or just in general? Because both are true.

I agree that he should be up their with the likes of Abaddon and Sevatar but as it is right now he is way better than both of them and could easily kill them both in 1 round of combat. The only person who comes close to him is Khârn.

after ruining my eyes further reading the part on AL legion organisation, I am hyped and pretty much convinced to go operative any moment now.

Unless the IW go way badass fluff wise, I am off the deep end here....willhaveto put in some extra night shifts to comeupwith the money....

HYDRA DOMINATUS

Hmm, Corvus armour depicted at Isstvan 5, suddenly 130 marines in my possession become HH compliant!  Now to make sure I can 'fix' any incorrect symbolisation :)

Very nice pictures, thank you!

Though I understand get all the fuss over Sigismund, guess I don't find he's had any reason to spark a light in my interest yet.

No rumors to what the legion traits and rites of war are yet?

My my, Alexis Pollux and that RG moritat are just sweet. (I wish moritats had access to more pistol weapons like his, his weapon can rend so is not broken like the plasma pistol combo)

Might be hard to keep him alive: he can't join any units of any kind before deployment or during play, but I do like that we get a Sly-type character. Most interested in the shadowmasters unit!

I bet the 7th Battalion is the origin for Carcharodons.

I am also drooling at the idea of Mor Deythan and Corax.

Mmm... This tempts me to start an Iron Warriors allied detachment so my bloody sons of Angron can have some artillery support.

Book III is a must buy for me. I want to find out more about the Alpha Legion and Raven Guard.
