Sons of Horus, first time (2000 pts expanding to 3000 pts)

Hi all

I was looking to get into 30k and decided to choose Sons of Horus as my legion. I've taken a quick read of the books and forums but haven't bought any models yet. I want to plan out my army before purchasing from Forgeworld. I will be facing normal 40k armies but not super overpowered ones.

This is my first rough draft of a 2000 points list which I would want to expand into 3000 points at some point in the future. Unfortunately the lists I build are about 150ish points over when I want to squeeze all the toys I want in.

I would appreciate if I could get some help on cutting down the fat in my list:

HQ

Centurion

Primus Medicae

Cataphractii armour

120 pts

Elites

10 man Legion Terminator Squad

2x Reaper Autocannon

2x Power Axe

2x Power Sword

2x Single lightning Claw

2x Chainfist

2x Power fist

5x Combi-melta

430

2x Apothcaries

45

Contemptor Mortis

2x Kheres

180

20 man Legion Tactical Squad

Vexilla

Sergeant with Power fist and artificer armour

285

20 man Legion Tactical Squad

Vexilla

Sergeant with Power fist and artificer armour

285

10 man Legion tactical support squad

10x Volkite Charger

Sicaran with Lascannons

175

Spartan tank

Armoured Ceramite, Flare shield, Heavy Flamer, Frag Assault Launcher

365

Comes out to 2155 points. Where do I trim the 155 points?

Expanding to 3k points, I want to later include:

Horus

500 points

Fire Raptor with Reaper autocannons and hellstrike missiles

230 points

Veteran Squad

10 man, 2x power swords, 2x meltaguns, sergeant with power fist and artificer armour

275 points

Thoughts on this?

I think you should cut back on the Terminators and their warhead. Personally I don't rate Lighning Claws on a 2+ model, as it is useless saves as it is  useless against Terminator s. I would also get rid of some of the Support squad and the flamer on the Spartan.

You don't need to have all the extra trimmings all the time - so you can remove for example things like the extra power fist and/or chain fist and/or autocannon and/or meltas from the terminators.  Heck, you can even reduce it by a single model or two.

Same goes for your Tactical and Support squads, just reduce them by a model or two until you reach the required target.

In addition, do you really need the flamer and launcher on the Spartan for a 2k list?

For the 3k list, simply add all the gadgets back accordingly.

Not saying that's the best way, but it's one possible way to trim the fat :)
