The Memoria Crusade (ETL Vow 1 complete)

I like the first one too - the colours, the shield and the prominence of the Templar cross all jump out nicely. The myriad of crusade badges at the bottom works nicely with your theme, neat idea.

Looks cool! The only thing I would add is a book or rools of parchment, as those really ties in the theme of your crusade

That's supposed to be a book below the knight's left arm. I was hoping for a better way to tie that in, but couldn't think of anything else. I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks for the feedback.

hum.. What about taking the "Memoria scroll" from the 2nd idea and putting it on top of the first, above the cross, then that frees the space under the knight for an open book, like he is contemplating/paying hommage to/guarding it?

The element that is in the front of the picture draws the most of my attention and determines the vibe of the banner. In the first one, you have a knight, which could be many things, from knightly ideals and defending the innocent/imperium to general crusader. In the second, It's still a knight, but this time bringing fire and setting the world he stands on on fire. That, to me, evokes bringing the cleansing wrath of the Emperor on heathen worlds. A very respectable goal, but not quite your crusade's flavor.

I made a quick sketch to show a bit better what I meant with the book. It sort of combines both of the drawings you had, to represent the Templars (knight & cross) guarding/watching over history (the book) against the warring world/galaxy (planet on fire behind).

Memoria

Also, I quite like the lot of crusade badges at the bottom, but I left it incomplete, as if they are the badges of the crusades yours has encountered and it is a work in progress.

That's fantastic. Thanks for all of the feedback and advice. I'm going to attempt another draft tonight.

Well here is version 3:

So, with ETL coming up, I have began to prep some of the stuff I already have, but I'm looking to make a purchase no more the $90-$100 USD to bolster my crusade and be available to vow for ETL. The problem is I simply cannot decide what to get. So, I look to you brothers help me decide what to get.

Command Squad, Bikes, Hammernators, Devastator Squad w/ 4 Grav Cannons... any of these should be a small enough squad to paint that could wrack up a hefty amount of points... the Devs alone would be a whopping 210 pts. without upgrades to the Sarge...

The question more likely is: "What do you need in your current Crusade?"

My plan is to usually set up a 1000 pts. army (with certain squad members and upgrades not taken nor maxed out), then max them all to full Codex capacity, and vow them for ETL.

Well here is what I currently have:

100 initiates (6 crusader squads, 2 assault squads, 2 devastater squads)

20 neophytes

30 sword brethren (10 cc termies, 10 tactical termies, 5 sternguard, 5 vanguard on foot)

High command

Marshal

Castelian

3 chaplains

Command squad

2 LRC

Storm Raven

2 storm talons

Vindicator

Predator

3 rhinos

2 venerable dreadnoughts

Well you could always triple-down on some vehicles for those squadron bonuses? Or look to build up some formations (skyhammer is a good choice with Grav Devs like MR suggests)?

That's basically my intention, with a third landraider, a second and third ironclad, and maybe some Devs. I also have a few Characters to do, because they are fun to build/design and they can pack a lot of points!

That's a hefty collection! Nice crusade :D

Looking at things, it seems like you've got pretty much everything infantry-wise covered except:

- honor guards (if you don't consider that your command squad + vanguards can be 10 honor guards)

- centurions (if you don't dislike them).

Otherwise, it looks like vehicles:

- Storm Hawks to have your own fighter aircraft

- 2 Drop pods to be able to field a Skyhammer

- 1 LR of any kind to be able to field a LR spearhead

- 2 Predators or Vindis to be able to field a full squadron of either

The most useful ones are probably centurions, storm hawks or drop pods

My recommendations are:

1. Centurions, viable from a gaming perspective and they look pretty good in black and in 'real life' (as opposed to pictures; when I first saw these assembled, I was pleasantly surprised how coolish they are), plus they are expensive pointwise, so a good starting contribution to ETL,

2. 5 more power-armoured Sword Brethren, as Sternguard and Vanguard troops seem amazing,

3. another heavy support tank, depending on you preference (maybe a whirlwind to deal with lighter infantry?),

4. a Stormhawk.

PS: Love the banner design!

Who's maintaining those tanks? ;)

a Good character to get that should be within your price range is a Techmarine... with just the Servo Harness he's 90pts. add in a few magnetized weapons such as a Plasma Pistol, a Power Sword (so you could use the Burning Blade Relic item for ETL) Auspex, Meltabomb, Teleport Homer and you should have somewhere in the 150 pts range... then add in the Thunderfire Cannon and you should be able to add 100 pts. extra.

Thanks for all of the input brothers. I do have some devastater centurions that I forgot to list.

Does anyone have experience with the fine cast tech marine and thunder fire cannon? I'm just iffy on the fine cast stuff.

No experience with the model, but I suspect it is fiddly and annoying :P

Although, if you run him as a buffed tech marine for points, wouldn't you need a second tech marine to be the gunner for the cannon? I didn't think the gunner techmarine could be given upgrades?

Yeah, the resin sprues for the TFC are the worst! There are sooooo many connectors, beware of clipping the wrong thing! The barrel of the cannon, the sides don't always match up well, but the endcap hides that well.

That said, it will be worth it all on the tabltop. The Emperor rewards perserverence. Get a unit of 3 for BS6 goodness. It may cost you some friends. Dropping 12 S6 blast templates that only Scatter 2d6-6 inches is brutal. I like the look on an opponent's face when I deploy a trio, then buff a piece of terrain per Techmarine Gunner, and he is like "those things HAVE to go." It's also fun to watch players unfamiliar with TFCs try to wound T7 3+ armor. They waste a unit's worth of small arms, then their antitank is drawn, and hopefully you are sitting in 3+ cover. More than once, the shop owner has had to sweep up my opponent's torn-out hair up off the floor at closing time.

Made some progress on the sicarian last night...

Following the theme of my army and the rest of my tanks, I want to add banners to this one. I'm just not sure where exactly on this tank to put them. I know I will use this one.

So I started one the predator destructor tonight and in normal fashion of my crusade started adding the banners to the chassis.

I'm not sure how I feel about these. I'm not sure if it's because they are WiP, or the are more rare banners with different coloring, or because this is the first predator I have done this way. What do you think brothers?

Excellent work on the sicaran - definitely the right choice to add the banner-work because they look great.

The predator is looking good too - you are right that the colours stand out a lot, but I think it works. Most heraldic designs are colourful, even garish, so it adds an authentically 'knightly' vibe, so I vote you keep going!
