I may try that heathens, thanks for the tip on that. Also what type of schedule are you on availability wise? Will you be available for a game of 40k sometime? A small one? I know they have a group of people who use a school space to play warhammer. I have a little bit of stuff in the Chaos Marine department and am working on Star Phantoms (we can take this to PM if it is best).

Also to be honest, with more bodies coming, namely breacher squads and some other stuff I think I could make two armies. I know Night Lords is a definite one, but I was also thinking of a loyalist faction as well. Thoughts?

Checked what else I have coming in, here is the list.

Landraider extra armor

Sons of Horus command(champ/standard)

5 x Sons of Horus Reavers (used to convert for terror squads?)

5 x MarkV Heresy Armor Marines (same as above, the terror squads will probably be a mixture of stuff)

10 x Breacher Marines

10 x Volkite Chargers

In any case, I think I will have enough for 2 units of 20 tactical marines. I still don't know exactly what I want to do though for a list. Will have to review it and see what I can come up with.

Loyalists? Blood Angels would be a blast, and would be a great contrast to your Night Lords. Dark Angels as well, since they have a history with the VIII Legion as well.

As for availability, I'm playing it by ear quite a bit right now. My weekends are pretty open usually though. Just PM me a time and place, man.

I actually considered the Blood Angels. A great contrast in terms I color. But I would have to keep that part generic in terms of troop choices. That is until thy come out with their stuff. Dark Angels seem pretty interesting, especially since they are being under-represented it seems. Hmmmmm, quite a conundrum. I did considers the logistical boys, but don't want to paint two blue armies.

cheap coke knock off i find is the best answer to cleaning resin. boil it to make it hot in a big pan and then dump the whole lot into the hot coke. 2 hours later its release free. usually it will strips out the excess oil from within the resin too. secret weapon i learned from my dad when he was stripping engines. its safe on most things and takes oil off anything. to think people drink that crap....

Thats a fast way to lose detail as the heat will make the pieces contacting each other to squish or wipe rivets and the like off. Room temperature coke will do the same thing. Heating the coke to clean engine pieces is required to get the metal to 'loosen up', but it can ruin resin if you aren't careful.

Ya, been doing it that way for a while in most of my armies, except my WHFB Lizardmen, I did them 2-3 units at a time, but they were a fast paint army.

So thoughts on this.  The winged skull for the NLs, I was thinking that with my Chapter called the Shadow Sworn, the skull would be white/offwhite, but the wings would be black/dark dark grey.  It would work for the ADVON idea I have for them.  See below:

Night Lords, 37th Chapter Details:

The 37th Chapter of the Night Lords, "The Shadow Sworn," are known for their grossly effective terror tactics and psychological warfare. The Shadow Sworn's 9th Company's main priority is preparation for operations and so are an ADVON (Advanced Echelon) Company. They set the stage so to speak by removing communications and power from any civilization on any world they are to conduct missions. They also provide horrifying visual and audio stimuli in the form of displayed bodies/images and the looped recordings of the screams of their victims/propaganda.

When the single Company arrives on planet, their first actions are to recon the area for a feasible forward base of operations, one that allows them to withdraw from conflict to rearm and reassess their tactics. These particular tasks fall to the Recon Squad and Fast Attack elements, Scimitar-Pattern Jetbikes and Javelin. Once the identification of a fortification or potential base has been determined, the Breacher Squad and Tactical Squads with support from the Recon Squad and Raptor Squads if need be, effect an infiltration and immediate takeover. From this location, the main mission of the ADVON Company can be pursued.

A Heavy Support Squad armed with Autocannons is tasked with overwatch of the forward operating base, along with one Tactical Squad and the Terminator Squad.

Performing PsyOps missions will be the Terror Squads and the Raptor Squads primarily, with some support if need be from any other personnel, such as Recon Squads for target removal. The main purpose of the force is to set the tempo of future operations by demoralizing the morale of any opposing force as well as putting into place barriers to success such as; power loss, sensory loss, communications loss, supply loss, etc.

Should the need for heavier reinforcement be required, the Company has the ability to forward deploy a Land Raider with full HQ compliment and attending guard as well as a full unit of Terminators bearing Cataphractii-pattern armour, Contemptor Dreadnought, and the entirety of their company. In the event that opposing forces are at a distinct advantage in force, withdrawal to the base will be recommended and a request for further aid along with tactical data will be sent via cryptographic data link back to the Captain of the 37th, Zar-Helek.

A large number of their forces is composed of members in the Terror Squads whose Sergeant wields the dreaded Murder Glaives, a two handed weapon with a rotating chain of monomolecular teeth that eviscerates their victims whilst terrorizing them with the keen of their revving engines. Their duties are to sow horror and confusion in the populace, bringing the atmosphere to the edge of chaos.  Units of Raptor Squads tear through the skies sowing terror by dropping bodies from the skies and transmitting disturbing screams of their victims from their suits.

The Breacher Squads provide a means of entering secured or heavily armored facilities, in many cases allowing for avenues of movement not ordinarily available. At times the victims knew not where the Night Lord forces came from due to the ability of the Breacher Squads to find less than obvious ways in. The single Recon Squad provides insight into the best direction of insertion as well as being able to neutralize possible early warning systems and personnel.

Fearmongers are the elite Terminator's of 9th Company's First Squad. They are the personal bodyguard of the Company's leadership and are picked based on their proclivity for murder and ability to invoke terror.

9th Company ADVON Forces:

1 x Night Lord Cataphractii Terminator Squad (numbering 5-10)
4 x Night Lord Terror Squads (numbering 5-10)
2 x Night Lord Raptors (numbering 10-15)
2 x Night Lord Tactical Squads (numbering 15-20)
1 x Night Lord Breachers (numbering 10-15)
1 x Night Lord Heavy Support Squad w/Autocannons (numbering 10)
1 x Night Lord Recon Squad (numbering 5)

1 x Mortis-Pattern Contemptor Dreadnought
1 x Contemptor Dreadnought
1 x Javelin-Pattern Attack Speeder
1 x Scimitar-Pattern Jetbike Squad (numbering 6)
Phobos-Pattern LandRaider
Spartan-Pattern LandRaider

This Company is larger than typically found, numbering approximately 160 members.  This is due to the sustainment operations and extensive Psy Ops missions they conduct.

The 37th Chapter has had a history of working hand in hand with the Alpha Legion, who have acknowledged the effective methods the sons of Curze employ.

Does this sound good?

So if I decide to do some Blood Angels, I may go with the troops of Nassir Amit "the Flesh Tearer", Captain of the Fifth Company of the Blood Angels Space Marine Legion during the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy.  This would allow the army to be able to find use in both 30k and 40k if need be.  Plus I like the Flesh Tearer scheme.  Obviously it would be a Blood Angels scheme, with some 5th Company indicators, such as the heraldry of the future Flesh Tearers, maybe a black shoulder pad on the right side, left is for Legion right?  And also maybe paint any of the wings on their chests black?  I don't know, an idea for possible expansion into a Loyalist force.

Plus, the Flesh Tearer Company of the Blood Angels were pretty darn vicious, am I right?  So the army would be more assault based and may field the Destroyer unit, just because I love the nastiness of their fluff!

Hey now, I spent time away from the family and country doing work outside the US, I think I deserve a little self indulging behavior! I still have more to come, wait and see.

So thoughts on a Blood Angels expansion with emphasis on the Flesh Tearer chapter?

Probably do one shoulder pad black, so they don't look like those dirty Word Bearers, and do a darker wine color, not bright arse red. Maybe do black stripe on helmet or color it all black for sergeants and leaders?

I like a mid tone red, not quite bright blood red, more darker than that but they are not Flesh Tearers, second founding chapter het at that point so woul be still blood angels in color i think.

With black/charcoal as the main accent. Helmets would be dark grey/black for sergeants. Yes one shoulder as black the other will of course be with the blood Angels legion symbol. Brass/dark gold would be the metallic of choice. Flesh tearer symbols would be on their right shoulder or where appropriate as chapte designation.
