Traitor Guard

Recommended Posts

Only one, and to be honest, I don't think it would be of interest to you as it was just me and my mate having a go with 6th edition with half built, unpainted and some proxy models of his before I started my guard army so none of it is really what I would use now. It was our first game in about 2 years having lost interest in the hobby but got back into it again. I beat his Slaanesh CSM but as it was our first game we were stopping and starting a lot. This was about a year ago though during my gap year before uni, and not since the new IG/AM codex.

Since being at uni, only had time to paint (I wanted to complete my army) and no opponents to play against anyway. Had hoped to get a go with 7th in my local GW but was too caught up in exams.

I do have a few ideas for army lists however which you're more than welcome to have a look at if you're interested?

Mentioned earlier in this thread of my entry into the Daemonic Pact event. Here is the completion line up/voting: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293253-daemonic-pact-1-a-chaos-event-result/?do=findComment&comment=3735437

I would definitely recommend taking a look as there is some great stuff here, really inspirational :)

So, FW just had another open day, and from what I can tell there was no mentioned of the hoped for 7e imperial armour update for FW's forces of chaos, renegades & heretics lists included?  I know the updated nid book is right around the corner, but with no mention of the chaos stuff at all, I'm now somewhat worried about seeing that update this year....

Oh dear... That's a shame. I guess that makes traitor guard/CSM allies very awkward then as the old rules are too old and are missing some of the awesome new stuff and AM have so many drawbacks when allied with the new allies rules.

Saying that though, I would be happy with a GW supplement that allows codex: AM to be taken with chaos and adds in a few chaos specific items for them. Saves writing a whole new list/book and there is already so much overlap it might work. This is not a rumour though, so I doubt it will happen but I think that would be my preferred option.

It's the sort of thing that could have been done with a page of rules or two in the Astra Militarum codex. Everything would play out more or less the same, except you may want to change some army-wide rule, replace the named characters perhaps and add some new artifacts.

We're a doomed group.

The problem is the broad, generic, and lacking definitions the codexes present. Whether it's Chaos militias and cults, to organized armies like the Blood Pact or the Tyrant armies.

Hell, I'm still against using "warband" for Chaos Marines. Like it's a bizzaro term for Chapters because authors can't write detailed scattering of fallen renegades, ordered or shattered Legions.

I like warband myself.  It seems a functional term for describing a coherent, self-contained chaos force, whether they be fallen chapters or the remnants of Heresy Legion companies, with modern 40k Legions being collections of semi-independent warbands sworn to the same banner.  I've certainly not heard a better term proposed.

As for the update, I don't know whether I want it to come or not.  In terms of running renegades on their own, there's not really much of a chance that they'll be anything other than 'guard but worse', and if running them as allies with chaos marines or daemons, about the only thing I like them for right now is that they can still get old style icons for deep strike mitigation, and given the current rules for icons, they're almost sure to lose that.
