GrunTeufel
I've been renovating my whole army for some time now, and I am almost finished. I've been collecting and playing since I was 15 but my painting was abysmal at first. It isn't the cheapest of hobbies out there this one, so when you turn back and look at your old models with abysmal paint jobs you kinda get this incomplete feeling. (I might be alone in this of course) My painting is at a level that I am more or less satisfied with although there is always room for improvement. So I've been stripping my old models and repainting them for almost a year now and I am done with my devastators at last. Before: (This was actually my second attempt to correct them. The rocket launcher guy was how they all looked like at some point. You can see my horrible attempts at edge highlights and really bad construction mistakes due to metal weapons) http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk37/jacksonseverimben/IMG_20131209_115646Medium_zps3464f1e7.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk37/jacksonseverimben/IMG_20131209_115745Medium_zps37d44f73.jpg After: http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk37/jacksonseverimben/Blood%20Angels/2014-04-18021130Custom_zps502c4e05.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk37/jacksonseverimben/Blood%20Angels/2014-04-18021104Custom_zps09a4cf97.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk37/jacksonseverimben/Blood%20Angels/2014-04-18021041Custom_zps1f3927af.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk37/jacksonseverimben/Blood%20Angels/2014-04-18021006Custom_zpsc857ffab.jpg I have so much work to do. I stripped something like 40 marines. Some of them didn't make it due to being painted with enemals. But I have something like %80 success rate. I have 10 or so marines left. Still waiting for the break fluid to work it's magic. http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk37/jacksonseverimben/2014-04-18021216Custom_zps52f3e136.jpg Hang in there guys! teblin
Damn, your "before" Marines are better than mine lol! What do you strip them with?
GrunTeufel
Damn, your "before" Marines are better than mine lol! What do you strip them with? Break fluid. Nasty nasty stuff. Really bad for your health and you are not suppose to breath or touch it directly. I more or less turn into Walter White when I am dealing with the stuff. Gas mask, gloves, the works. Thankfully I am not gonna have to handle it anymore after stripping the models in the picture.
teblin
Wow, I can imagine. Gets the job done though I guess!
GrunTeufel
It sure does! There are cleaner and safer alternatives apparently but they aren't strong enough to strip enemals.
ianj253
Nice red, what's your recipe?
GrunTeufel
Blood red in thin layers. Thin it until its a tiny little bit thicker than water and paint in layers. This way you don't leave any brush strokes and details don't get covered up by excess paint.
Dolchiate Remembrancer
Great job brother! Your before wasn't that bad in my eyes but I can see the improvement in your after! They are stunning!
Theredknight
Have you tried acetone free nail polish remover? I did this for a lot of old nids I got on eBay, hundreds, and it's a lot less deadly!!!
Kanis
These are phenomenal and a great inspiration to get to painting mine I've just rebuilt and used since 5th! Very impressive work all around, hopefully I can do a fraction of this on mine. :D
GrunTeufel
And the rest of the squad completed. Bases done. Waiting to be varnished and decaled. There is one more marine but I encountered a weird compatibility problem with his bolter arms. He is gonna have to wait. http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk37/jacksonseverimben/Blood%20Angels/2014-04-24220617Custom_zps9a2ffaab.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk37/jacksonseverimben/Blood%20Angels/2014-04-24220750Custom_zps1b577d12.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk37/jacksonseverimben/Blood%20Angels/2014-04-24220649Custom_zpse7747844.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk37/jacksonseverimben/Blood%20Angels/2014-04-24220637Custom_zps083637f3.jpg
knife&fork
It's an unusual combination of neat, clean, subdued and gritty. I like it.
