yeah, a little paint in the joint is fine, a rough scraping and you're golden.  It's only when you are gluing two "sealed by paint such that no plastic touches plastic" parts together that you have a problem...even then, it takes some serious abuse to cause a problem.  I did it wrong for the first ten years, and had maybe a 2% breakage rate.

We're all busy, as long as you're making progress that's what really counts :tu:

I'd keep HWSs focused and all with the same weapon, there's not really a good combination and there isn't many points difference outside of Lascannons so I don't think there's anything to gain by doing so. A squad of three of the same weapons will reliably do their intended job :)

I'm just full of questions it seems lol but here's a tricksy one. 40k lore is well known to be made up of various bits from other sci fi books a series. Now I love the 40k fluff so what other authors write about a universe similar to this or what are the books that have influenced this games backdrop (I will say the fallout game series's line of "war... war never changes" fits)

40k has been inspired by many sources, but it has long been it's own thing. Many themes of Sci-Fi are referenced and brutally murdered by grimdark and OTT by 40k because that's what it does. There are a few key sources though that helped form early 40k and therefore the bedrock of the universe as it stands: chief among them is Dune I think so if you start anywhere go with Dune :)

Fallout is it's own beast, and also notably younger than 40k.

Sorry for the double post but I has moar questions. What are the IG's anti AV14 options? I know the leman russ variant with the massive barrel is one, as is the HWS with Las cannons and the order Bring it down but are there any reliable ones or is it a case of need by need basis

Heavy artillery is also viable, such as dropping Bassie shells on things especially if it's not AV14 all round. Melta is the old stalwart but the issue is getting it in range. BS4 is naturally the best platform for this, so Veterans and Scions are common melta units. The Devildog is another idea, especially as AV14 vehicles tend to be larger. Last but not least grenades in close combat can drown things in dice, or the odd meltabomb on a character to hit hard or tackle Land Raiders and their universal AV14.

AV14 is a whole new level of tough.  Plain lascanon hits are not really enough.  Even a Vendette only has a 75% chance of causing a single HP loss.  To take on Land Raiders, you really need:

Melta

Armorbane

Lance

Destroyer

Auto-glance

Vets, command squads or special weapon teams can carry enough melta but they will need some way to get close and they could also use some way of increasing accuracy like Prescience or Preferred Enemy. Lords of War can give you access to D Strength weapons.  Other than that you are looking at allies to bring things like chainfist, grav-guns or haywire.
