Dosjetka
I did a bit of painting this evening with the aim of getting a decent Ultramarine blue. How do you think I fared? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290144-ultramarine-blue/ Share on other sites

Dosjetka
Thanks all, glad you like it :) Ricky: I'll try and get a tutorial with pictures up soon and I'll link to it here. Toxichobbit
Agreed with everyone else, that's a nice blue. However, you seem to have painted the shoulder edges wrong. They're gold when they should be red :p. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290144-ultramarine-blue/#findComment-3664841 Share on other sites
UltraRich
Looks good I'm using the space wolf grey to mix in with my edge highlight which makes a less sky blue edge Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290144-ultramarine-blue/#findComment-3664879 Share on other sites
The Yak
Gorgeous blue that mate. Ultras looks so cool painted a tad lighter than the regular GW version, as many of the folk who have already posted demonstrate so well. PS: Are you thinking of doing a little squad of them? RedFred
Such a clean finish. Also, mind enlightening me on how you did the gold? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290144-ultramarine-blue/#findComment-3668839 Share on other sites
Schultzhoffen
Looks excellent. I just wish I could get my highlights so sharp and neat. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290144-ultramarine-blue/#findComment-3670439 Share on other sites
Dosjetka
Thanks chaps, much appreciated :) Toxic: Hum... I'm not particularly keen on red shoulder pads for Ultras, but I might try out some green ones... (no Captain Ventris shenanigans for me though!) ;) UltraRich: Thanks for the tip! I actually quite like the sky blue edge, though I may just switch back to Space Wolves Grey because of how terrific your own Ultras look! The Yak: Thanks! Aye, a Tactical Squad and a Razorback/Rhino for now. Not sure I'll keep the same blue though, because it was a pain to mix all of the paints and I don't have enough Regal Blue for a whole squad, let alone a vehicle. So yeah, I'm hunting for other recipes at the moment and will buy the paints needed tomorrow and start painting! :D RedFred: I think I went with Balthazar Gold -> Gehenna's Gold -> brown wash -> sepia wash -> touch-up with Gehenna's Gold again. Having said that, I really dislike GW's metallics and will do my best to replace them soon. I'll probably get some Vallejo or Coat d'Arms paints as they seem to be higher quality with a lower price per ml. Schultzhoffen: It all boils down to a good brush, thinned (but not too much) paints and going back over your mistakes with the main armour colour. It takes a bit of practice and can be a bit of a hassle but it's very much worth it :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290144-ultramarine-blue/#findComment-3671179 Share on other sites

(no Captain Ventris shenanigans for me though!) Toxichobbit
I wasn't entirely serious about the red, I'm joking about the fact that I like the 3rd but out of all the Companies, dislike the 2nd the most. But, seeing as you mentioned it ... Here's some red rimmed Ultras. The pictures have a bit too much flash but you get the idea. I wish I had more normal troopers to show, but I'm awful and disciplining myself to paint troops over more interesting models. MagicMan
Ramell's Ultra thread is third company as well, and his Marines look great with red trims. :) I like the gold trims myself. It just looks Ultramarine... Even if Sicarius is a massive D-bag, and a crappy character. Dosjetka
Ultramarines built for the ETL can be found here (not yet painted). MagicMan: Aye, I really like the gold trim despite not really liking Sicarius. But I may go with red instead... Redrandy93
Nice job brother Ludvic, Wish mine looked as good. I have been painting them darker for now but may lighten them once I finish the command squad. Toxic is your company banner painted free hand? Came out really well done.
