Scribe
A question for those more knowledgeable than I. HH2 shows a lot of basic Iconography added to the Word Bearers, some of which are of an astrological source, but also the star charts/maps as seen on the hulls of the tanks. Is there a specific term for the maps/charts that I can look into as a real world basis? My googlefu is plainly HORRIBLE. Hyaenidae
Try typing in "Ancient Astrology Art" into google images. There's some similar designs in a lot of the medieval and roman pieces. Conn Eremon
Astrological charts also had similar designs. Sadly, the one image I found that most matched what was on the vehicles was a dead end. Including geometry and geometric designs to the search also had some similar images. The images in the tanks remind me of seafaring navigation, but hell if I could find anything down that road. Scribe
And with enough clicking...we find things. It appears that its possibly constellation boundaries that are providing the breaks in some of the shapes. Thanks for the tip heathens, it was the 'ancient' that lead me down the path. :] EDIT: Take a look here gentlemen. http://www.stargazing.net/david/gif/skymaps/mapoct684b.gif EDIT: Cormac I think your on to something here as well. http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/z/ancient-sea-chart-details-7030082.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290362-word-bearer-iconography/#findComment-3668846 Share on other sites
A D-B
These should help at least a little, Scribe. I can't speak for the specific artwork used (beyond saying I love it, because I do) but these links are very specific to the overall arc of Word Bearer iconography and how they do things. Babylonian astrology. Babylonian astronomy. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290362-word-bearer-iconography/#findComment-3668875 Share on other sites
Kol Saresk
Strangely enough, the thought springs to mind of making a perverted hybrid of the symbols from the Keys of Solomon, some old astrological charts and the symbols A D-B provided. Scribe
Thanks for the links AD-B, I think you mentioned Mesopotamia in the past, but I didnt realize where Babylonia sat in regards to astrology! I agree Kol, it does look to me as if you combined all of these sources, with a dash of 30K/40K-ness, we would have what we are looking for. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290362-word-bearer-iconography/#findComment-3669405 Share on other sites
Kol Saresk
Yeah, IIRC, Babylon is one the first cultures to start doing astrology. Funnily enough I found this out through the Necronomicon.
