Hey guys, thought i might as well make a new thread to show my progress of my Horus Heresy 1st Legion and the work I'm putting in to help the Heresy forum win this year!

 

I will be showcasing what models I'm working on and the liquid inspiration (like the title) that generally accompanies it.

 

Here's my vow:

 

I, Depthcharge12, answer the call of E Tenebrae Lux for the glory of the 1st Legion, the Lion, and for Caliban! I vow 2 tactical squads of 10 men each, 1 10 man cataphractii terminator squad, 3 Jetbikes, 5 missile launcher support marines, 7 volkite support troops, 1 master of signal, 1 praetor, and 1 spartan assault tank from the heresy for a total points of 1605, on or before August 1st. Success will bring eternal glory to the 1st and the Lion, and failure will doom me to wear the badge of shame until the year end and add my name to the roll of the Fallen.

 

List:

 

Praetor - 165

+paragon blade, plasma pistol, refractor field, digital weapons

 

Master of Signals - 105

+artificer armor

 

10 cataphractii terminators - 385

+1 w Twin LC, 1 w LC and reaper Autocannon, 1 w plasma blaster and power maul, 1 w chainfist and CB, 1 w power sword and CB, 5 w power axe and CB

 

1 Spartan Assault Tank - 320

+ flare shield

 

5 Missile launcher support squad - 160

 

7 volkite calivers squad - 165

 

3 Jetbikes - 165

+ 3 melta bombs, plasma cannon

 

10 tactical marines - 150

+ bolter and BP

 

10 tactical marines - 150

+bolter and BP

 

1605 total

 

Hopefully I can complete this vow and start another if possible but I will be in Cancun for two weeks for break...but still enough time to paint.

These guys just need some touch ups, some more heraldry, and some basing and will be all completed.

So I upgrade to some Sam Adams (like the patriot I am :P) and since it's summer that means summer ale and Leininkugel's summer shandy!!!

I added some more heraldry on the right knee pad for these guys and cleaned up the bolters on everyone.

Then I tried my skills at some freehand, it's kinda meh, but looks good from a distance lol

This dude lost his leg and replaced it with a robotic so he can plant his size 16 metal foot up some traitors arse!!!

 

 

 

Those Jetbikes and terminators are looking longing at me, I'm afraid that if I don't paint them soon they will side with Luther :P I just need to base these marines and put the heads on the other two and then I will move to my next project!

The mini's look great and close up shots will always make you second guess your work so don't worry about the "meh" thing :)

 

I am really glad to see my desk isn't the only one that looks like the aftermath of a firefight. Now I have proof that artists NEED a cluttered environment LoL

No beer in this photo, I feel cheated.

 

Perhaps the sandy/rocky areas of the bases could use a wash of a brown hue.

So I was thinking about eventually making a jetbike command squad, I was thinking of using this banner for the standard bearer:

And I was also thinking about trying to use these legs, however I don't know if they will fit on the jetbike or if there will be any gaps showing. What do you guys think?

I love the Ravenguard Command upgrades (That banner, oh my heart) You have to put that on a jetbike, HAVE to.

 

Oh I will ;) it picks up the slack for my lack of green stuff skills

 

 

I have those legs; I'd suggest a different set, or at least prepare for a large amount of greenstuff.

 

On a side note, get some Mississippi Mud. Tasty brew, man. You won't regret it.

 

Thanks for the advise oh sage one, I was worried that the legs would leave some gaps as I don't think they are fully modeled around. Any advice? I would green stuff it if I had the skills, but as I don't, well...

 

I'm just trying to look for ideas to make a unique jetbike command squad to stick out from the guys who go stand in the front and don't get names :P

 

As for Mississippi mud, I will have to try it (I think the stores around me carry it). I'm more of a craft/wheat beer kind of guy when scotch is unavailable, so I think it should be a good match up.

 

 

There was some purple dragon (?) beer I had recently that had grapefruit in it and was like 8% alcohol content. It was so good I wound up drinking too much of it and counted bathroom tiles for the rest of the night :D

Nice mini's I look forward to seeing the end result . And just guessing here that you live somewhere in the mighty midwest area.

 

And since we are taking brew suggestions, try Ommagang Abbey Ale.

And Heathens is correct Mississippi Mud is a good beer.
