A new era (imperial fists)(1000heathens, I invoke thee)

Hey all,

 

 Since the inception of HH both on these hallowed boards and Forgeworld, I have wanted to do a HH army. My first choice was the Iron Warriors. heathens beat me to it! then I was going to do the Salamanders. they didn't fit me. then it was the Death Guard......I like them. a lot actually. but as some of you know, my life has been one calamity after another.(someone on the boards likend me to Job from the Old Testament!) the last disaster destroyed (literally) everything I had for the hobby. FML.

 so my return is something fresh for me. returning to my roots as it where. I have decided on LEGIO VII, The Imperial Fists. why, well a few reasons actually.

 

1. I am a "good guy" by nature.

2. I love yellow(my favorite color, and my U.S Cavalry roots)

3. I originally joined B&C under the BT sub-forum can you say Sigismund!

4. as a student of war, I am obsessively fascinated with siege craft.

5. my main opponent will be heathens. so I'm thinking arch-rivals!

6. In the 2nd edition of this game, I played IF almost exclusively. well, some ultras where in there, but mainly a whole mess of yellow! when 3rd ed dropped I switch over to the BT's (and a smattering of Blood Angels)

 

 I am going to do a Siege type list(even with the 40k fists I am doing). but I also want to get into trench warefare. ( am in the planning phases of some ZM style trench boards)

 

 

Now my problem is this. I don't have the books anymore. so, I have no way of designing a good list.....at all.

 

and then there is the issue that I want a unique force. I was planning on a Templar-esque force built around sigismund. but then I thought;

 

1. there will be a lot of that going around

2. I want something else that shows off the Fists flexibility

3. I don't want to "follow the herd" with these guys.

 

I am open to suggestions. especially you heathens, your ideas are gold

How about either of these ideas?:

 

1. Cavalry, ergo rhinos and bikes.

2. Trench warfare (maybe a company who learned from the IW leading to a bitter confrontation during the heresy).

3. Assault force (might look too much like BT).

4. Recon.

well this project is going to be pretty slow due to my own little mission crusade for debt freedom! and I am determinded to make it as HH accurate as possible(lot's of resin!).

 

1. Cavalry, ergo rhinos and bikes.  OOH, nice. but maybe too pricey! LOL. but who knows.....god I love me some armored Cav! Charnable sabres for everyone!!!! wait, that might actually work....

3. Assault force (might look too much like BT). I think you've keyed in on why I am hesitant with this

4. Recon. while there will be a small recon element, this is going to be a siege/man the walls force(see my sig)

 

my main question is more of an aesthetic one. I want something like the UM/praetors of Orpheus thing that heathens brought up in another thread!

 

something that will keep me motivated.

maybe find a "crossed Sabre" decal that'd be awesome on some vehicles!

Crossed sabers or a the horse head decal from the knight titan kit. Either would work! Support by fires, bikes closing the breach with sicaran support. Add a spartan for your praetor or do terminators deepstriking in with the praetor to severe the jugular of Heathens army.

I'd say err on the side of a heavy armour, suppression force - heavy guns like basis, vindis and fellblades alongside a heavy siege defence 'strong arm' of breachers, cataphractii and support squads - a final backing of templars on secondment from the Phalanx? :)

Mine is a heavy dismounted cavalry theme (think knights charging, then dismounting their horses to kill with honor the survivors) and I know there are some light cav and air cav themes out there too.

 

I think if you did the armored fist rite of war, that would be fitting, land raiders can be picked up cheap on eBay and customized with some love to look great!

 

Or you could even use caestus rams ;)

I am in Anchorage as well, so if you need another partner/opponent maybe I can throw in with you.  I am Night Lords, and I am sure there were some Night Lords on Terra, so I am sure the IFs and NLs clashed at a point.  In fact, in my fluff I wrote, you can see the story has a part of a conflict involving them both.

 

Anyway, good luck, maybe I can lend some help!  

 

Trench warfare?  Sounds nice and gritty.  But a heavy foot assault list might be fun, besiegers and all.  Definitely look forward to reading you back story/fluff.

I like the crossed sabres idea. You could always so Fafnir Rann's company, however. They use the axe heraldry of the Executioners, I believe.

Oh, and Anaziel, Thanks for the idea. Cavalry it is. gulp, this could get expensive.......

 

actually this army could be three pronged

 

1. A Primary Armoured Cavalry core. lead the charge!

2. A Secondary trench fighter/ close assault force. because tanks and bikes can't fit in confined spaces.

3. A Tertiary Siege/Artillery force, someones gotta make them holes and proved covering fire!

Shock troops(termies/assault/breacher troops) with some "take-and-hold" units (tacticals/heavy support squads) could be cool.  Quickly deploy via light/medium transport (a heavy transport for maybe your command/escort squad).

 

Honestly, this could be a fun summer.  But I PCS next year in March so I definitely need to try and get some HH love going.  Good luck!  I will be watching!

Taking to the field against my Dragoons with the assumption that my forces are static, would be the last mistake you'd ever make.

 

Key word there? Dragoons.  My men are the breach-takers, the widowmakers, the heart breakers. Thinking that my boys are just going to stand there like the stereotypical Iron Warrior and take the hits and shell you from a distance.... well, let's just say that I hope you have a lot of Apothecaries attached to your squads. They're going to be carrying crates full of gene-seed back to the Phalanx.
