Quick question:

What is the minimum, including the upgraded wolf guard, number for a Blood Claw pack?? Thematically, I am going to add a Stormwolf full of them alongside my Wolf Priest (in TDA) assigned to him as punishment after evoking the ire of the Wolf Lord.

Also, can I equip the packs upgraded WGPL with Powerfists and Combi-Plas and junk??

Thanks, I have yet been able to pick up my codex, busy work week!!

A stormwolf carries 16 models, and termies are bulky, so 14 PA bloodclaws and 1 termie wolf priest, or 12 PA bloodclaws, 1 WGPL in termie armour & 1 Wolf Priest in termie armour woud fill the Storm Wolf.

Minimum pack size for Blood Claws changed from 8 to 5. Maximum size is 15 and that includes the WGPL as an upgrade within the pack, he is no longer an addition to the pack.

Oh and keep the random pics coming.... Random is fun!!

Ok, so a couple of things...

Got the codex. I love it. It is easy to navigate and understand. The relics are cool and the TWC getting cheaper has me glad I already own 8 models not including the Wolf Lord I have been working on, the Canis I did for this years ETL (I also have a sock swinger of him. Seriously, you could kill a human swinging the damn thing around!!) and another Lord I worked up that I am not going to show at this time as I have too much exciting news!!  Well, not news, but projects. I decided as well that if I truly want to get better and also document it on the internet as well as accept advice and tips. You should Seriously send me money for this stuff!! I kid...

So I also got Logan. This is as far as I have gotten with him. I had to wright this down though. This model is so well built. Seriously I need to vent here!! The way it is designed as an actual model should have any of you who don't already own him, to rush out and BUY HIM!! Seam lines are intentionally hidden and sprue attachment spots are also positioned better for ease and model condition upon removing the damn things. The pieces fit together so well, it's ridiculous. Seriously. That's my word for tonight I believe. I have been saying tonight as well, and now I cannot help but type it out as well!! Haha...

I'm turning Krom into a cheap and efficient Lord with Artificer Armour and a Frost Axe and Pistol (which I will be magnetizing so I can switch in a Storm Shield when points are a little more, generous. So I also began his removal and cleaning process.

Here's that Wolf Lord I got a bit more work done on:

And this is as far as I have gotten with Logan!!

So lastly, I want to talk about my painting. I finally feel motivated to do it and I am instantly pleased by my results!! The self perpetuated motivation has been veeeery much welcomed!! But I want to talk about my style, and what I am going for. I like the cartoonish style, and little bit throw back to when I remember looking at White Dwarf as a 12 year old and my imagination running wild!! Seriously WILD!! *cough* Anyways, I like the stylized version of the Space Wolves which also explains, partially, my choice of armor color. I am trying to recreating a very over dramatized light reflection and I am only just now understanding wet blending, which will still end up being a bitch!! The things I love to do to myself in the name of ADHD... Thank's for listening and hope you enjoyed the pictures!!

Looking good there RPR!

I especia;;y ;oke the face, and the highlighting is good too, catching the top edges of the armour. You have got a nice mix of the light reflection without going OTT.

Some folks think you need to highlight every edge and end up looking glwy and overdone... You have managed to cath the right ballance, keep going I am enjoying your thread

With regards to Logan, is there enough space in the chariot for his 40mm ase or do I have to drill a hole in his feet for mounting purposes?

I hanrt bought it yet, but if the 40mm base doesnt fit inside the chariot either drill holes in his feet and see if I can magnetise him, hoping the magnets are strong enough from under the 40mm base. Or get those flat headed brass tacks and push it through the underside of the base, so the spike sticks up and then just drill a hole in Logans foot and stick him on the spike.

Those were my plans. Second idea is simple, brutal, but pretty effective. Its what is holding my Fire Raptors wings in place until I decide to glue them, just using thicker wire for the job (2mm)

I also have my counts-as Loga nas backup ;)

Thank you for the words of encouragement all!!

I will be magnetizing Logan. A magnet on the bottom of each foot that will correspond with magnets on a base and in the chariot. When I get to that point, I will take several pictures to explain how I went about it.

Wife's been hella sick and I've gotten nothing done the past several days because of it. Maybe I'll have a little time today...

So back to the question of Blood Claws.

I am going to run 13 of them, bare bones except a hidden power fist. They will accompanied by a Lord to keep them in line. I guess I am unsure as to whether or not a WGPL is needed. I was going to run a TDAWGPL with twin claws for challenges, but I want to run a cheap and efficient Lord for that. So do I take a WGPL at all?? Or just the Claws and the Lord?? I dunno. They will be in a Storm Grrrr *tips viking hat at Skeletoro* and I want to only run 13 Claws for fluff reasons.

The 'Unlucky 13' disappeared in the deep recesses of space and time over 150 years ago, but as a trick of fate for them it was mere minutes. Fearing possible taint the pack is assigned to a young upstart Wolf Lord who angered the Great Wolf himself!! For some reason the 13 members of the pack seem immune to death, but those around them seem to become magnets for despair!!

I'm waiting on a bits order to finish the blood claws (I need more assault marine legs) but once they arrive I'll get some shots of them up as well.

As to the squad leader, game wise I would say it's good if your lord is outfitted for infantry killing, then he can keep alocating his attacks to the infantry while the squad leader takes the challenge. Not very space wolfy, but a thought.

Well the Lord was going to have a Frost Axe, not the best for challenges, is it??!! :P I want to also have him fulfill his role, and kill people... so I may need to change him up model-wise.

Rhaps,

It's your fluff, and your army, of course, but I just wanted to point out that in the background material, this scenario wouldn't really happen.  The Wolf Lords defer to the Wolf Priests, who answer only to Logan, the Great Wolf, and Ulrik, the Hight Priest.  The Wolf Priests go out to the Great Companies to advise, counsel, and mentor those 'young' Wolf Lords.

Val,

Thanks for popping in!!

I agree, and after creating that post, I thought about my fluff bit and realized the same thing. That would be why I am running a Lord with the BC's instead of a TDAWP who will now go into a second Storm Grrrr with some TDAWGs.

So here's a little line work on one of my TWC riders. It's still a WIP, but getting there!!

Working on these guys a little more tonight, so maybe more updates a little later!!

Also on the adding to my list of things to do, I just bought Bjorn!! Also I cannot gush enough about this kit!! The variety and easy of the kit is not hindered by the intentional designing of the way the pieces fit together. Truly another great release from GW. Almost makes the price hikes warranted. Almost.

Little more progress... Just a quick post for now before I head off to work.

http://i61.tinypic.com/2hci4w0.jpgR_P_S Good looking stuff, love your method of highlighting slightly different but effective. I started work on new TWC bases yesterday and your base inspired me!! so i had to copy it sorry! The last pic above this post where the wolf is positions over each of those rocks on the base! don't know why but i just felt i had to make one similar :tongue.:. Similar to yours i made the base so the back 2 feet rest on one side of the rock and front 2 on the opposite side. Thanks!

  • 2 weeks later...

I played against Necrons first, my opponent was 8 or 9 years old. He was a good kid, but neither of us knew the 7th ed rules well at all, so our match went on waaaaaaaay too long. After misusing his flyers death ray and insta-killing my TWL I got a little annoyed and went for the throat. I killed his destroyers, scarbs, and annihilation barge all of turn 3. I ended up winning 8 to 4. And afterwards the guys on the table next to us described how the death ray actually works, dealing the wounds to the first models and not the ones touched by the line... Good to know my general died and not the 8 point wolves in front of him...

Second games was against a guy running a battle forged 4 codex army. Inquisition, Guard, Blood Angels and Grey Knights (i think...). He was really knowledgeable and nice (patient too!!) but all I remember about the game is getting my ass handed to me. After that, I left for a date night with the ol' ball and chain.

Lessons learned:

Maybe a little less thematics for tournements

Go TWC / fast attack OR go Terminators, but not both. At least not at a 50 /50 capasity

Build the rest of my drop pods, deep strike mishaps suck balls

I am working on my Blood Claws currently, but I need another 6 assault marine legs... So since I am in need of the pods, Krom and Bjorn first they will get set aside for now. I am also working on 5 SS / TH WGTDA for Arjacs Shieldbuddies and because you can never, and I mean NEVER have enough Terminators!!

Lastly, Logan is primed and I have some of the base colors blocked out. SO expect some more of him soon!!

End of Line

Also, what does the Fang think of the Frostfury relic??

I am thinking a Lord with it to join the Blood Claws. 4 more shots, Helfrost could maybe, if I am lucky, kill something, and if not it is still good without that ability.

I like the thematics of it a lot, and since I am converting one of the Kroms I have into a generic Wolf Lord to lead them, I want some feedback on the idea before I continue to model him up!!

Side note, but related, I am running the CoF pretty much always sine it allows me to field my TDAWG en-mass.

End of Line

I like the Frostfury, but not a Bloodclaw leading IC. I would toss it to a Rhino riding Priest/WGBL or a Mounted Lord with a specialist weapon (so he won't miss the bolt pistol). The thing is, when the you kill too much before assaulting with claws, you might not make it into melee to finish the job due to increased distance.

These are the things I never think about, and really should. Although I am not as concerned about that bit, if it happens, it happens. I am more interested in the thematics of the pack. An unlucky number of Blood Claws accompanied by a Lord rushing from a StormGrr. I am working out some kind of back ground regarding the way the pack seems to maintain 13 members at all times. Something like the Grey Knight guy who summons the ghost termis. Or maybe A kind of cures/blessing that replaces lost brothers with fresh faces that are yet familiar and known. As if the All Father himself is supplying his sons more soldiers to wage war on the enemies of mankind.

Here is a WiP Blood Claw:

I don't want to put too much time and energy into these guys, but at the same time I want them to look good... Because I didn't have enough things on my plate right now...

Got some more base color down on Logan and Bjorn has no arms yet but he is nearing completion as well...

You know, on a side note. I am rocking out under the influence of Ensiferum. Then I go on this forum and see your thread title "Blood is the Price of Glory - Ensiferum" (incidentally my favourite song of theirs).

Today, I decided to put on Blind Guardian. Your threat title? Yeah, Straight Though the Mirror..

Well, if next time I see Powerwolf, Sonata Arctica, Korpiklaani or Winterstorm there, I officially know that you are stalking me :D

Good taste in music though ;)

Rocking some Mithotyn right now!! Love these guys!! Winterstorm, hell yeah!! \m/

I was thinking about making some stalker joke here, but opted against it. Don't want to scare anymore people off than I have too!!
