R_P_R WiP [now playing] Police Truck - Dead Kennedys

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the advice Donkalleone!! I think the RP will be out of place in this list, even though its a solid tactic putting one with the LF's.  How would you re-wright my list to include Helfrost and asscans?? Dreads and TDAWG??

RGR, I have another list I am considering as well, it runs two TDAWG packs, so don't you worry!! I've got the CoF covered!!

End of Line

I'm thinking of this list (from memory):

Bjorn

-Helfrost cannon

6 Long Fangs

-4 HB, 1 ML

5 TDAWG

-4 Combi-F, 4 PS, PF, AssCann

5 TDAWG

-4 Combi-M, WC, PF, 2 SS, PS, AssCann

End of Line

I have decided to move forward on my Ragnars Great Company project. Mostly a drop pod list with a couple flyers. But I am going to paint it traditional colors and try to adhere to the know fluff of the army as much as I can, or, care to. Like everyone else and their mom, I am converting Ragnar from the Krom model (I have 3 of the kits now) swapping the head and close combat weapons arm for a long haired head and the upgrade sprues Frost Sword (FrostFang). Four Tactical kits with SW torsos, shoulder pads, helmets, and backpacks will serve as the backbone of the force. Making either four or eight GH packs, I'll assign each unit a drop pod and a TDAWGPL. This is my proposed unit make up for running 5-7 man packs:

1-6 Grey Hunters with a single Melta Gun

1 TDAWGPL with Combi-Melta and a Storm Shield

Seems like a solid, inexpensive choice, and adds a second single melta shot and a 2+/3++ tank to the unit. It also keeps space open in the drop pod to add Ragnar, a Rune Priest, or any other HQ I deem worthy of toting around that day. Do the GH's need CCWs??

I'll also be using my spiffy HQ command tank kit for this army!! I'm pretty excited about that as well!!

End of Line

My opinion, if you have the pts then yes. It always seems to throw my opponents off a little when they charge my line troops & I counter attack & end up with almost as many attacks as they have.

You are referring to tthe CCW question, right??!! For modeling reasons, I am building all of my GH's with Bolt Guns and my BC's with BP/CCW, so I can keep it simple.

Querry:

In an alpha strike army consisting of two BlizzDreads in pods, Murderfang in a pod, and several TDAWG packs deep striking off of the locator beacons (or not), what is a good load out for Skyclaws and an accompanying lord?? I am wanting to use this pack to assist in combat/counter assault, and to mop up easy targets. Fast moving so the objective game can also be counted in their description.

Here's kind of what I was thinking:

9 Skyclaws w/PF

Pack Leader w/PS and SS

along with either:

WL w/Jumper, Plasma Pistol (or bolt pistol??), and...??

or the cheaper

WGBL w/ Jumper, Frost Sword, Armor of Russ

Both version will carry the Wulfenstone for the whole FC thing.

So what do you all think?? Am I on the right track?? Do I need to cheap it up, or are the upgrades warranted??

Thanks in advance.

End of Line

why use skyclaws as opposed to wolf guard with jump packs

Most likely because there's about 40 points difference between PAWG and Skyclaws.

I've only played 1 games since assembling my Skyclaws. That was a HoR KT game against my cousin and we both fielded Terminators. So I haven't tested the Claws performance yet. Mine is a pack of 7 with 2 flamers, seems good for mop up duty in theory. They have a WGBL with FB/SS, melta bomb and Wulfen Stone to lead them. Have thought to add a power axe for some ap2. I cringe at the power fist's cost. Can get 2 flamers and an axe for that PF and be more versatile. That fist is nice if you need to hit a heavy target though.

If I keep a WG pack at bare bones, it is a better deal as far as hitting power goes. The problem is keeping them bare bones with all of their upgradeability!! But still a worthy consideration. The other thing is the Skyclaw pack is meant to be is a cheap addition to my army, and also fill the roll of "why are you playing that??!!". I don't get a lot of games in these days, but my main opponent is Orcs. Those damn things can, and will, tie up a BlizzDread for several turns, if not the entire game. This is where the desire to get a clean up crew pack came about. That and a weekend of Space Marine on the PS3... Anyways, I wanted a small and cheap CAD to add to my CotGW force. Consisting of the WL/WGBL, Skyclaws, and 2 GH melta packs in pods. I suppose that a WG jumper pack could replace the Skyclaws with a minimal point increase.

I am trying to avoid bikes solely based on the fact that they are played by every marine force. If I needed fast moving back up, I'd use my TWC.

End of Line

I want this unit to be more of a joining in an already existing fight. But you're right, Vykryl, I should add in some flamers and a little AP 2 (to fill in for the PF). It is a solid idea, and one I should heed.

End of Line

One day im going to have to drive out to Seattle and play with you and yer regular opponent.

I'd like that, brother!! I've been busy looking for employment recently, and that has cut into a lot of 'play time' for me. Priorities...

Sadly, my Ork playing pal lives in Oregon. I visit him every couple of months.

Let's talk HQ here folks.

Which is going to be more ideal for what I am looking to achieve??

WL with Jumper, FS, and the Wulfenstone

Or, for 20 points less:

WGBL with Jumper, AoR, FS, and the Wulfenstone

I'm thinking the Frost Sword is a good weapon for either choice, it strikes on initiative, so before a lot of other models. That's good. But is the 2+ better than the 3+ at the cost of attacks and WS?? I want to keep the blob cheap if possible, so I am leaning towards the Battle Leader. But there's always room for another Lord in my army, swatting things around, and raining on parades...

Any thought's??

End of Line

20 points more for +1 ws,wound, attack. That wound could be big. But 2+ and dropping opponent's initiative by 5 is nice too. You could give the WGBL the Fangsword for 5 points more and pick up Helfrost and rending. That might be a better weapon for the cheaper build. The Lord's 3rd wound seems like the biggest loss to me still.

I didn't really think about the WC option, I was hyper focused on the models ascetics. Ooops. HAHA

I feel like the points for the Lord with the AoR is just a tad too much for an add on HQ. And as you mentioned, Vykryl, the loss of the third wound is hard hitting. But to keep him cheap I can't have it all. The AoR was mostly to give the BL an invulnerable save, and less to take advantage of the -5I in a challenge, not that that is a bad thing, mind you.

I am leaning towards this build now:

WGBL w/ Jumper, Bolt Pistol, Wolf Claw, Armor of Russ, Wulfenstone

End of Line

With Slay the Warlord being so huge, and my Wolves so character driven, i'll happily pay the extra points for a BAMF warlord

WLK

This bloke will not likely be the warlord. Ever. But the wolf in me wants to make every HQ into a BAMF. It's in our genes, passed down from Russ himself!!

So I recently moved (again), and have begun to reassemble my hobby area, find bits, and organize my paints.

Yeah, that's right. My hobby room is a closet... It's still very much a work in progress, but I thought I would share the state of it now as the upcoming ETL got me all buggy about getting ready to paint.

Speaking of paint, here's a little teaser of one of the things I'll be vowing this year!!

More soon, but maybe not soon enough!!

So I made a vow for this years ETL. A TDA RP and 30 Fenrisian Wolves. Easy peasy, right??!! Let's hope so...

I have the wolves sitting in some Super Clean right now, stripping the last bits of old paint off of them. The RP has been primed black and has the base coat on it now. I am still fiddling with his cloak however, I cannot seem to get the fur on top of it to look right.

Side note- I have decided to change my armies armor color to a more traditional SW scheme. This is due to two things. One, I am rapidly running out of Necron Abyss (the color I use to paint my armor currently), and two, I am finding that painting a dark color makes it mush more difficult for doing highlights and such. So I am working off of the Fang from here on out. I will use the already painted models and part of Logans' personal retinue and the rest of the army will fall under the banner of the Drakeslayers.

More soon!!

So....do you paint in the closet by choice? Is this to prevent kids from reaching your station? Help me understand...

Apparently, it's so my wife can constantly make jokes about me 'coming out of the closet'... :dry.:

It allows me to hobby explode all over my desk and then close the doors and she doesn't have to see it. And it keeps the cat out of it as well. She is, after all, a Daemonette...

It's my own little space in a little apartment. It is by choice, yes. Some may question my life choices, and well, this is certainly one of the better ones comparatively.

End of Line

Glad I'm not the only one with cat issues :tongue.:.

Nothing like finishing a beautiful model, only to take a close look and realise a little hair has been painted to it :furious:.

I actually really like the necron abyss look, it's very pleasing to look at. Though I will say The Fang is pretty easy-to-work with paint.
