Hi. Thanks KiltedMarine! Glad you like the shields, care to choose a design from page 1 so I can incorporate into either my Thunderwolves or my terminators??

Got back from holiday recently and made a start on my Thunder wolves for the ETL3 challenge. Will post pictures later today? I have also been having a wee play with Green stuff and need your opinion on Logan before I go much further.

Pictures to follow... How is everyone this morning?

So some pics as promised, I have made a start on the ETL models, but first some WIP shots for the second part of the vow.

I would appreeciate some honest C&C here. Thanks guys and Gals!

Bran Redmaw. I made this a few years back, before IA11 which is why his weapons load out doesn't match. He was inspired by te picture of the Space Wolves fighting off the Dark Eldar and it was supposedly him in the picture. If we are allowed to show pictures from the codex I will post it up here. My plan for him is to add a wolfs head above his own.

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/P1000644.jpg

Next is Erik Morkai, a super human goliath who exudes menace and a cold hard messy painful death. I tried to capture that with this model. To give a clue as to who he is on the battlefield I put someting above his head. I am not sold on the fur on his back yet and even not sure if the twins should be brought further forward, any ideas, or is it cool like it is?

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/P1000650.jpg

So what do you think about the wolfs heads, a bit more forwards or is he good to go?

Another Wolf Lord with a penchant for hitting things is Bjorn Stormwolf, he likes loud bashy smashy things, an ork in trans-human form!!

However, given the shield and hammer, I may re-cast him as Egil Ironwolf, theLord who loves metal and engineering! Which gets your vote??

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/P1000647.jpg

And finally the Big Daddy!!

My Logan counts-as, still very much a WIP, let me know what you think... Am I going a bit over the top??

For those of you curious about the sculpting,

I used this stuff

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/310520141921.jpg

Put it in the microwaver in a cup of water for 3 minutes until plyable

And then:

Used items like this to make some casts:.

After that i used greenstuff in the moulds and you can see how they came out from my Logan & Erik models:

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/P1000650.jpg

It was that easy. I can't recommend this bluestuff highly enough!

Quick update.

Wolves mostly done, first layer of basic colours down on almost all of them, furs received a quick wash done, next up is highlights and start the riders.

Brown Wolves..

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/P1000683.jpg

And the babies!!

Next up is the highlights and tidying up, then onto the wolf riders.

These are being painted for speed rather than quality, man I wish I had an airbrush

I have been quiet for a few days.

Initially I started painting for speed, but these critters are so detailed, every time I thought I was done, something else needed doing.

So 1 day off schedule, but 90% done on the wolves. The plan is to finish them up in conjunction with the riders as some techniques & colours will be common to both. So far i have just stuck to drybrush wash and layers with 1-2 colurs on highlight, no blending or any other techniques used yet, still have eyes and a few bits to tidy but overall happy.

Oh and painting the bases a wee bit as I am not allowed basing materials on the stupid oilrig.

Pictures are on the way, please feel free to comment, or give tips...Tell me if I have made any glaring mistakes etc...Anything that will help make me a better painter.

Cheers guys and Fenrys Hjolda!!!!

Ingmar & Ironfur's pack.

Looking good or in need of a wash of brown and a wee bit more highlights again?

Hi Fyth, thank you, nothing a little bit of leg swapping and some green stuff doesn't fix :)

I am too scared to try hacking the legs up in case |I wreck the model.

I am glad you like them.

Hey Prot. Nope not army painter, just a nice cheap primer from a car repair shop.. Not sure where you are from, but in the UK Halfords spray primers are pretty darned good and cheaper than model primer sprays.

Not all cheap spray primers are good though, so test on a bit of sprue first, so you don't accidentally ruin a model.

No... He-Man has the power.

http://i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/Khyron666/he-man-i-have-the-power-o.gif

Thanks for the blue stuff pointers!!

And I like both, but the gold is certainly harder to paint. So the blue would make the job easier. I am going to do both once I get to that point with my TWC.

End of Line

Hahaha threadjack away RPR biggrin.png

Atleast Skeletor is the right colour of blue/grey for the wolves tongue.png

Just a quick update on my progress with my Thunderwolves. I have finallyu managed to get them to a point in the paint process where I can glue them back into their saddles..

I was getting a bit fed up of them getting knocked off and broken when my colleagues swing by my desk and start picking them up to "see what I have been up to".

To be truthful its actually really nice to have finally found somewhere that I can work on my models and I get some positive comments and encouragement (even if it is from a somewhat captive audience as we are bobbing on the North Sea). The gaffer is even thinking of getting me a desk lamp so I have better light for painting! Most places I have worked I would have to put up with stupid comments, so for once its a nice change....

Anyhoo, wee off-topic moment done. Well besides getting them glued into their saddles (superglue, so I can remove them again if needed) I have managed to get the reds and yellows done on the knee & shoulderpads... b****r I forgot the yellow on the legs!! Plus I managed to get a bit more done on the Wolf Lord Harald Deathwolf. The update is ging to be quite picture intensive so brace yourselves...

I based up the knee & shoulderpads in mechrite red and xv88 (normally I would use tausept ochre, but it has turned to the consistency of crunchy peanut butter, so I thought I would try and alternative this time).

Once this was done I gave the reds a wash of Asurmen Blue and the xv88 a wash of Ogryn Flesh (my gryphonne sepia has finally run out cry.gif ) and now everything is nice and dark.

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/P1000742.jpg

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/P1000743.jpg

Taking the reds up from scab red, redgore, blood red and finally blazing orange, I reined it all in with some Baal red wash.

For the yellows, I worked it up from xv88 to golden yellow in a lot of very thinned out layers. On my terminators I would normally keep going up to sunburst yellow, but as there isn't an "edge" I was worried it would look too cartoon-y. As it was I am hoping I managed to pull off a nice shadow/fade from the bottom to the top of the shoulderpads following the arm position and direction of the model.

They turned out a bit like this:

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/P1000749.jpg

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/P1000750.jpg

What do you think? Did it work? The lighting isn't the best here and I am not allowed to use a camera flash.

Pack pictures:

All views and opinions welcome. Rune Priest Svan, how are you liking Ingmar and Ironfur... Fluff still to come.

And to all the other wolves out there, the rest of the thunderwolves remain nameless and without a shield design, both would be most welcome from yourselves to help personalise my forces... Shield design ideas are at the bottom of page 1, or submit a design of your own.

Thanks for looking smile.png

Not so much an update as a stroll down memory lane.

I have a huge model collection. but very few actually painted, so I thought I would show those I had actually gotten done. And a few which will hopefully flow down the pipeline eventually.

These painted models are from 2009-10, in the 4 years since I have mainly been following vicariously through others or by Black Library literature, working full time and having a baby son, plus other real life issues conspired to keep me away from my Wolves

First up is my Bjorn counts as model:

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/Space%20wolves%20in%20progress/07102010116.jpg

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/Space%20wolves%20in%20progress/07102010114.jpg

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/Space%20wolves%20in%20progress/07102010113.jpg

I have the original metal Bjorn from about 1994 around, but I have used washers to make him taller and bulkier, he is also in bits, so maybe I will resurrect the original Bjorn.

Lightning claw was a doddle to make, 4 Zombie scythe blades, a wad of Green stuff and a storm shield. I plan to arm all my dreadnoughts like this at some point

My first ever Land raider model, and painted.

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/Space%20wolves%20in%20progress/2paintschemes1.jpg

My favourite scout, need to fix his bolt pistol back on, I loved mixing the marauder arms with SW torso's and I so wish I could lay my hands on a bout 10 more of those old-school scout backpacks.

My original big guns... I have a feeling they may go old-school grey sometime soon.

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/Space%20wolves%20in%20progress/Engironhisride.jpg

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/Space%20wolves%20in%20progress/Engirandhisride.jpg

My concept for Engir Krakendoom, using an attack bike as a chariot to lead his men (in game its just 1 bike for Engir using his stats)

Here is about the first and only bit of fluff that I have ever written, let me kow what you think.

As we know from the codex, Engir hails from the Southlands of Fenris and like all Southlanders he was born with innate skills in navigation and seafaring. Coupled with his ferocious will to win and his fighting skills, he led many raids on other Fenrisian tribes successfullyy striking from unseen quarters and using his superior seamanshipto outmanoeuvre and outfight his foes.
He finally met his match in the Isles of Iron, ancestral lands of the Iron priests where he led his dragon ships on a raid for iron to make weapons. His dragon ships clashed with the iron ships sent from the isle to intercept them. A great battle ensued. Superior seamnship and ferocity versus superior technology and weapons. For a time it looked as if Engir would win out, crippling fully half of the iron ships and allowing most of his fleet to break through, however eventually his ships were whittled down and he was forced into a fighting retreat.
Having lost a great many men and ships he turned at bay to allow his men to escape and led a fierce countercharge into the opposing fleet. He fought like a man posessed slaying all who came at him with harpoon and axe, but even he couldn't hold out forever. Through gritted teeth he fought on his indomitable will keeping him going even when his body gave out, all wounds to the fore, he was laid low
By chance or by direction of the Allfather Ulrik the Slayer oversaw the battle and seeing a great warrior, he took Engir before his ship sunk and he was lost to the depths.
Needless to say he passed all trials set before him to become a Space Wolf and his skills have been put to great use by his predecessors and now the Great Wolf himself. As has always been the way, Engir has always been a raider and over the centuries the skills he had as a fenrisian warrior have been honed by centuries of warfare. His specialisation on land is to use mechanised fast moving troops. In particularhe likes to use bikes and attack bikes, all the better for outmanoevring and harrying the enemy, so that he can land the kiling blow. He is always found in the vanguard of his great company, leading his men when a drop pod assault cannot be used (for this is Ragnar's domain) riding into war on his customised attack bike. His troops almost exclusively hail from the Southlands much like him and it gives him immense pride that many of the swiftclaws in his force come from his own tribe. Only a few Northmen with unsurpassed skills have made it through his recruitment process.
Amongst the other Wolf Lords he is hailed as a consummate raider (and pirate) however his insular nature and unique recruitment requirements set his company apart from the others. This has led to a few of the more 'traditional' great companies to view him and his packs as outsiders and it is something he has encouraged, further enhanced by the wearing of a pelt from a great sea monster rather than that of a wolf. It is known that when on Fenris, Engir can be found on the seas hunting prey with his wolfguard as he did when he was a young warrior. Preferring this to running through the glaciers hunting and feasting like the others.  Over recent years Engir has become ever more reclusive and withdrawn. However he has also become ever more aggressive and can be found where the fighting is thickest, always seeking the biggest and most powerful prey to spit on his mighty rune etched harpoon or to hack down with his axe. Some say his recklessness is due to him being taken by visions of his death and he is recklessly seeking it at the hands of a worthy foe. Others believe he has been spoken to by Russ himself and is trying to prove himself worthy of his Primarch. Of these rumours he will not be drawn, all is known is that he fights with the vitality of a bloodclaw and the brains of a thunderwolf. His saga is long and proud... long may it continue.
With the war on Armageddon raging all around and threatening to consume the whole Armageddon sector Logan Grimnar now needs all his Wolf Lords and Great Companies to fight together as brother wolves. Aware of the potential schism developing within his Chapter he has opted for mixing the companies, creating several combined arms forces, so far Krakendooms packs have fought with distinction saving the lives of countless battle brothers but will this be enough to bond them all as never before. Or will the more fractious elements within his army, stop his warriors uniting and sealing the Space Wolves fate?

More to follow....

.

And on it goes...

Engirs swiftclaw packs and wolfguard! I need more bikes, I want full 10 man squads one day...

This picture inspired me to do a Bran model of my own, which still needs finishing off.

My first painted Thunderwolf pack with my own custom Harald Deathwolf and chaos hounds as fenrisian wolves. The stand in Harald will become either another wolf lord or wgbl when I eventually get him painted.

Made from a whitewolf knight or Boris Todbringe model, with the warhammer head removed and fitted with a ranger axe. Sorry I don't have a clearer picture.

Looking at these, I am really itching to paint some of them... If there is anything over the past few postsa you've seen and would like to se painted up next. Please let me know

Thanks for going on this wee journey with me smile.png

Not too much progress, but yo wouldn't believe how much hassle these shields are to do.

Got the backs of 10 of them done, tried to make them look like real wood, what do you think?

http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/P1000769.jpg

And 8 shield fronts done, 2 more to go.... The odd shield out is for the Lord, just to make him stand out., Still need to weather them up a bit.

Can Rune Priest Sven pick out his shield design???

C&C always welcome..

  • 3 weeks later...

Sorry for being so quiet for so long.

Unfortunately I will be quite cyclical when on here, as I get loads of time to paint an post when I am offshore, but when at home I am looking after my son pretty much full-time and so I am very very limited in what I can do.

So I am 95% done with my vow. I am more or less done with the TWC and now ready to take on the TWC Lord and get this done.

So here is a sneak peak at where I am at:

Almost there, just one large push!!

And I'll get that picture so you can compare sizes of shields tomorrow Pedro :)

Does anyone know where I could get small discs, maybe 22mm diameter about 1.5mm thick, relatively cheaply?

Considering redoing the shields, but a touch smaller. The current shields are 26mm diameter which is a bit big for a space marine to lug around I guess!!

MIght still be okay on the terminators though :D
