skeletoro
I really like the shields but I agree that a tad smaller would look even better. I'm considering just cutting my own out of plasticard but if you find an easier cheap option, let me know!! I believe a few of the third party shields are roughly the size you're looking for. From memory, anvil industry have a plain round shield. Not sure of size. Scibor have 'Celtic' and 'dwarf' shields, and I think maybe some of them might be around 22mm, but they're already adorned with detail and it's pricy to buy those and then fill over the detail with green stuff to make room for your own Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290833-the-rout-released-fenrys-hjolda/page/4/#findComment-3742976 Share on other sites

Dantay VI
Hi JbickB: I have actually done that in the past for one model several years ago, I will put the pics up at a later date to show you how it came out. I also did it with a 40mm shield for my Bjorn dreadnought which is on his plasma arm (extra armour), however that picture is 4 years old, he has been broken and rebuilt several times over, the shield has been lost to the vagaries of the warp :(  Hey Skeletoro, I have seen the shields you mentioned plus 1 or 2 from Chapterhouse and they are nice. Maybe as character shields they could work.  Catsmasher, that is a really good suggestion, and could be used in conjunction with beastmen shields too... Maybe on bloodclaws who are still to earn a shield worthy of their name... Considering shields of varying sizes and designs across the board for my Wolves.  Keep the ideas coming :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290833-the-rout-released-fenrys-hjolda/page/4/#findComment-3745601 Share on other sites
Dantay VI
Pedro, you asked for size comparisons of the shields, so here is a picture Coin shield is 26mm diameter The card shield held by the Tartaros terminator on the left is 24.5-25mm diameter. CatSmasher
I love the terminator with supinated hand position. I will copy that idea for Hanz Stormclaw. He and his brother Franz are know for their prowess with wolf claws, but i don't have them modeled in terminator armour yet Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290833-the-rout-released-fenrys-hjolda/page/4/#findComment-3746626 Share on other sites
Dantay VI
Thanks Catsmasher... I like him too, he has that come and get me look.. Proper scary. It was a wee bit of inspiration from the Space Hulk model for that one. Cut at the elbow and rotate slightly, I reckon you'll pull it off with aplomb for Hanz :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290833-the-rout-released-fenrys-hjolda/page/4/#findComment-3746650 Share on other sites
Dantay VI
Thank you KiltedMarine and Pedro. without wanting to sound patronising or like an Oscar speech,it is the encouragement from guys like you which helps keep me motivated to paint. I genuinely do mean that. Pedro, your painwork is something I would like to aspire to and KM, you are seriously good with red!!  So now the Wolves for my vow are done (and I don't plan on doing another vow) What should I do next?  Finish off these guys? http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/P1000904.jpg I have had them about 4 years and never got them finished off, thinking of doing a nice norse/ viking banner for the guy with the lance.  Or work my way through this mob? http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/P1000905.jpg  And I still need to finish these guys up too!! http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/P1000906.jpg  What to do... Dantay VI
Nope. It was a consideration if I could have gotten the TWC done on time. Â I do not trust myself to get these done, so I will not risk my previous works. Â I tried to vow some of the FW terminators as they were base coated back a t 01/05/2014 (1st May) but I had no evidence of it so they were axed. Â Just looking to see what should be done next. Best to hope for on all the terminators would be a 3 colour minimum by vows end. KiltedMarine
Took a closer look at your thunderwolves; the fur is *very* well done! Love the coloration and natural look. Â Thank you very much for the compliment, means a lot from somebody with your skill. Â I say work your way through the "mob." I want to see what you do with the terminator with the wolf heads on his back! That sculpt is dead sexy! Wraithwing
Some lovely looking models there Dantay. Â Looking at your army list, you don't need the Belt of Russ and the Storm Shield on Harald, do you? Surely the SS is enough? Save yourself 25 points. Â Unless things have changed with 7th Ed and SS don't provide a flat 3++ against everything? Dantay VI
Hi Wraithwing. Yes the build is sub-optimum, but it works and I set the vow at that point level, so I am sticking to it.....  RPR, glad you like the shields, if you go back to page 1 at the bottom, you want to choose a design to be used or do you have your own design you'd like to see used on a shield?  Hey Kiltedmarine, I will definitely push on with the terminators, and the one you described is my Erik Morkai.. I'll put him at the top of the list. A shame that they are making a new Logan though, may have to find a new name and purpose for my Logan conversion ...  Well I've been gone awhile, so whats new with everyone in the Aett??  I have been working on my new flier.. I am bringing the fire (raptor) to the ice of Fenris hahaha... Its a bit smaller than I thought, and needs a fair amount of green stuff filling but she will be a beauty when she is done.. She is called Night Fury, and I am just working out what sort of design to put on her.  Dragons down the flanks? Or a mjolnir hammer across the top?  What do you think?    And going to get these guys finished off too...  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290833-the-rout-released-fenrys-hjolda/page/4/#findComment-3760108 Share on other sites
Dantay VI
So I finally got my backside in gear while Ben is in nursery and trying to wok on ideas for shield sizes.  Most people thouight that the shields on the Thunderwolf cavalry was a bit too big, so a few different sizes for people to look at and give feedback on.  Which size do you think will suit the terminators best The left is a 2p 26mm, the middle is an old card prototype at 24.5-25mm and the right is a 1p coin, about 21mm.  Which do you think will work best?? http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/DSC02517.jpg  Next up. I wasn't too sold on the chainblades with the Tartaros terminators for making chain Fists, so I took them apart and cobbled some new blades together from old GK sprues I have laying around.  First up is the twin Falchion, I also did a single falchion, but you get the idea.. http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/DSC02518.jpg  Next is the halberd head, looks pretty heavy duty, which is good.. http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/DSC02519.jpg  And the broadsword, nice but maybe a shade long? http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/DSC02521.jpg  And finally the FW power sword.. http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/DSC02520.jpg  Thanks to Wulfebane for the inspiration :)  Oh and my work space for the morning http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb456/dantay_xv/DSC02523.jpg  So should I keep the mix of blades or which blade do you think would be best across the pack?? Vykryl
With the shields, 21mm looks about right. Spartans are the only ones I know of that carried round shields covering chin to shin, like your larger options. Viking style would be about half height of man using it, 6 foot warrior with 3 foot shield. Your shields are amazing. I have no where near the patience for such detail myself. Â I like the glaive heads. Are those going to be chain fist counts as or power weapons? Dantay VI
Hi Vykryl. Glad you like the Glaives. They will be counts as Chain Fists. I imagine the terminator chanelling the energy from his Poerfist into the blade giving it a heck of a bite, until the fist itself reaches the target and he wrenches it apart. The Chain Fists looked pretty puny for his model. Thanks for the compliments on the shields :) I think the 21mm might be just about right  Capian Fabian, yep those are Maersk logos, from when I am at work.It might be inappropriate for me to have those images up, so maybe I should take those pictures down . Turns that power fist from a sledgehammer into a splitting maul. A long blade seems cumbersome for the intended use of a chainfist. Dantay VI
Hi Vykryl. I think you are right. The halberd/glaive heads are dfinitely more heavy duty looking than the more slender falchion or the over long broadsword. Good call, I'll make the swap. Will keep the FW blade as I think it looks cool. Still not sure of the double falchion... Will keep thinking it over.... Dantay VI
Hi Rift Blade. Yup those are the great axes from the fantasy swarf set. They are ace, put them on the end of the Justaerin axe hafts. The catapphracts are the Sons of Horus Justaerin, but with the eyes shaved off and the spikes cut down to look like studs. Justaerin are great because you can fit a whole head in the torso, unlike the regular cataphracts where everything below the lower lips has to be cut away. The other Cataphracts are wielding great hammers from the fantasy dwarf set also.
