Mantis Warriors - Badab War WIP

Recommended Posts

„The winds of the desert care not whose bones they scour clean."

During Last Year I almost Quit WH40K gaming. I have had a lot of modelling projects, nothing finished. Stupid rules and less and less time. Then I have read "The Trials of the Mantis Warrior". And voila, the zeal is here again. I go through more games this year than during several years before. Mostly with Alpha Legion and Sons of Sanguinus as well.

But some time ago, I have started a new army - Mantis Warriors, thanks to X-MAS bundle I have bought to my bro long wanted Badab War books and we started to build Badab War armies. Mantis and Executioners.

So here we are (or soon will be) the Mantis Warriors

I, Vorganov, answer the call of E TENEBRAE LUX and vow to complete Mantis Warriors Chapter Master Khoisan Neoterra with his honor guard and Librarian Shaidan with his Command Squad from  Codex Space Marines, Chapter Tactics Mantis Warriors of total value 810 pts on or before August 1st. Success will bring eternal glory to Mantis Warriors, Sons of Warhawk a White Scars descendant chapter and failure will doom me to bear the Badge of Shame until the year-end.

Khoisan Neoterra (1#, 200 pts)

Librarian  Shaidan (1#, 100 pts)

Honour Guard (8#, 305 pts)

Command Squad (5#, 205 pts)

NOW ETL III is closed and it is time to use this topic as regular Mantis Warriors WIP thread.

Photos will be soon available

After a long long time new update. All models are primed with airbrush, and some basic details added. There a lot of "perfect green" comments. So for you , I primed approx 3 to 2 mix of AV Model Color 70.827 Lime Green and 70.980 Black Green. Those are pre-shades in darker areas. The MAIN color is Lime Green. I am using Army Painter Green ink for some shadows and highlight with mix of Lime Green and  70.858 Ice Yellow.

Katanas are from Kromlech. Ruins used on Shaidan and jumping marine are from Scibor Miniatures. Cloak on banner-bearer is from Anvil Production. Models are kitbashed from Grey Knights, Vanguard Veterans and Assault and Command Squads.

Additional bits are used from Khorsaro Khan (Chapter Chaption head), Chaos Raptors (head of Marine with Katana overhead and Chapter Master Khoisan Neoterras hands), Dark Elf Cold One Knights (Chapter Master Helmet jewel)

Photo One: Greenstuffed Hairs (I have used Green Stuff from Spellcrow, I like that one very much)

Well, Vow completed for the Emperor and Mantis Warriors

Unfortunately I did not decide which decals I will use, so as I did not decide what basings I will use, but minis are completed for tabletop.

I let the decision on my honored peers if I fullfill the rules of the ETL

Photos only from cell phone, I hope I will show more here later on.

And now the Photo

Well, my figu

how you find the patience to do those camo stripe patterns is beyond me, kudos to you!

Well, my first ever figure was LRRP from Dragon 1/35. Tiger Cammo. I have started with dark green base, than pale green stripes and black stripes into them... I have no problem with Tiger Pattern ;-D

I still have new sets of Dragon Figurines somewhare in the lock... One day I will build one or two.

I am currently working on Infinity models, but all Mantis Warriors are looking on me strangely reproachfully. Have to finish them first

TRANQUILITY PATTERN CAMOUFLAGE? The very scheme that tempts me to make a MW army! You fiend, despite being a little thick on the orange, they are magnificent bastards.

I understand. Well, actually Tranquility is more of a sharp, leafy pattern. Tiger Claws coincidentally used Tiger Stripes.

But yours is too awesome.

GW (actually it was probably FW) did a slight update to some older RT schemes.

Actualy I have seen this pictures (I have whole pdf with background material), and I dont like this camo. Its no camo at all. And just because of background of Mantis Warriors as an raider SM chapter, I choose desert camouflage, where the black stripes disrupt the shape of and object and should be used either on desert and jungle environment (have you seen photo of real tiger in jungle or taiga?).

Moreover, everybody knows that sand on Iblis is more orange one ;-D

Yes, although I'm not old enough to have used it. The Navy started phasing out bdus (woodland) and utilities before I was discharged.

Using your own camo is a sign of character, but Tranquility was a yellow... something planet. Just remember, not every planet is Earth with a bunch of English people running around.

Quite honestly I'd also like to see some backstory to these units, Badab chapters get some FW love but a lot of people dissapear showing them.
