  1. Nothing to see here The content is in another castle or just start here http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/222538-another-diy-chapter-blog-for-the-omnissiah-9514/?p=2963992
  2. Here will be posted some heavy chaos conversions/kitbashes/scratch builds that I have been working on for as long as a couple years now. I am looking for thoughts, suggestions, and opinions on how to make some really monstrous models. NOTE: Picture quality and size increase drastically later in this plog, so feel free to skip ahead Most recent project:
  3. +++GREY KNIGHTS OUTPOST+++ http://bolterandchainsword.com/uploads/gallery/album_15465/gallery_48988_15465_28754.png Welcome to the Grey Knights Outpost. Grey Knights belong to the “Forces of the Imperium (IFOR)” Faction. HERE IS WHERE YOU MUST POST YOUR VOWS Here you must also post your “before” and “after” pics of your vows as well as any WIP you may want to share. You may also use this thread to discuss the progress of the event with your fellow participants, exchange ideas, offer and receive modelling/painting advice and generally have some ETL–related fun! Here you’ll be able to submit vows that include the following units: · Codex: Grey Knights · Codex: Imperial Knights · Imperial Armour Index – Forces of the Adeptus Astartes: o All units with the Grey Knights Keyword · Imperial Armour Index – Forces of the Astra Militarum: o All units from the Questor Imperialis list o All units from the Adeptus Titanicus list · Index Imperium 2: o All units from the Fortifications list IMPORTANT NOTE: THE MIGHT OF THE IMPERIUM As mentioned in the main rules, participants who pledge for Grey Knights will also have the option to pledge units that correspond to any other IFOR Forum as well! However, the units pledged from other IFOR Forums may never be more than the units selected from the list above. IMPORTANT NOTE: ALWAYS USE THE LATEST PUBLICATION TO SELECT AND PRICE YOUR UNITS Army lists are constantly updated through a number of publications: new Codices, Chapter Approved, White Dwarf, Forge World PDFs (even experimental ones), Errata, you name it. You must always make sure that you use the most recent list to “price” your units. That said, the original Indices that were released at the dawn of the 40k 8thEdition, in some cases contain units that did not make it to the Codex (or any subsequent publication). In that case you may still use them and “price” them from the Index list. Note that this applies ONLY to the units that did not make it to the Codex. You may not use the Index to “price” units that appear in the Codex or any later publication. If in doubt, contact me to avoid confusion. Before you post you vow make sure you familiarise yourself with the ETL VII rules. You can find a link below: THE RULES OF ETL VII CAN BE FOUND HERE Also, please take the time to go through the Spirit of the ETL to give you an insight of the “unwritten” rules. 4. http://bolterandchainsword.com/uploads/gallery/album_11277/gallery_27176_11277_24266.jpg BROTHERS PREPARE, ETL VI WILL SOON BE UPON US! For those who don’t know what the ETL is, it’s an annual painting event where participants are invited to vow to paint 40k-legal units of their preferred army in a period of three months, recording their points’ values. Participants may make up to 5 such vows with a limit of 3,000 pts per vow – but no limit to the amount of units pledged. Apart from the individual challenge of completing the pledged units, each forum is competing as a team against every other forum of the B&C by adding up the points of each individual participant’s entries to work out the total score for the entire forum. The forum with the highest score wins. But be aware: if you fail to complete your second or any subsequent vow then all previous vows are nullified and will not count towards the total of the forum! And there is another catch: the total points of each forum are modified by the completion rate i.e. the total completed points over the total points pledged. So failing to complete subsequent vows (thus nullifying all your previously completed ones) has an augmented negative effect on the completion rate and hence on the forum score. So be extra confident when you up the stakes. This is of course a very brief description of the event. For more details you may take a look at the previous ETL here (ETL V), but also expect some additional changes for this year’s event! The expected time to launch is in early or mid May. Feel free to ask any questions! ------------------------------------------------------------------ The ETL has a special resonance with the Dark Angels as it originated as a challenge of the Dark Angels Forum against all the forums of the B&C in the wake of the popular, but now extinct, Librarius Painting Challenge (LPC) which was the previous inter–forum B&C event. The Dark Angels not only won the last two LPCs but also managed to win ETL II – a much greater event in scale and scope. Participants vowing for the Dark Angels will be able to draw units from our Codex and Forge World units compatible with the Dark Angels so let’s take this opportunity to organize ourselves, measure our strength and see what everyone plans to pledge. We have a great range of miniatures, an updated 8th Edition Codex and the single-mindedness of the Sons of the Lion! Remember, the miniatures may be assembled and undercoated – but not otherwise worked on at the time of vowing them! So who’s going to take up the challenge? And what do you guys plan to paint in the service of the Lion? THE INNER CIRCLE EXPECTS THAT EVERY MAN WILL DO HIS DUTY!

  7. Right folks, it's that time of year again: the ETL is upon us. This is what we've been building towards and this year, it's a unique title defense campaign! What is the ETL? The acronym for E Tenebrae Lux, the ETL originated as a painting challenge put forth by the Dark Angels sub-forum. This has since blossomed into a full on, inter-forum painting competition whereby an individual vows a legal unit (or units) for a particular faction and has to paint them to completion (in the owners eyes) within a three month time frame. The faction with the most points painted is crowned the winner earning eternal glory (special signatures, etc) and a year's worth of bragging rights. ETL I can be found here ETL II can be found here ETL III can be found here ETL IV can be found here ETL V can be found here ETL VI can be found here Our Heritage As you all know, Blood Angels and their Successors study the arts. Our extended lifespan allows us to pursue and master the finer things in life and it is often remarked how exquisite the works of our artisans are. Certainly our preponderance for Artificer Armour, master-crafted weaponry, tapestries and so on show this off and back in the real world, some of the best painted models on the B&C are Blood Angels. In the previous painting challenge, the Librarium challenge (which is currently on permanent hiatus) our faction had a long and distinguished roll of honour whereby we won the event year after year. However, for the first three events this hadn't transferred into the ETL: In ETL I we finished fifth (out of seven participants). In ETL II we finished fifth (out of eight participants). In ETL III we finished seventh (out of eight participants). That said, we threw the form book out of the window for ETL IV: We finished fourth (out of seven participants) and within sight of second place Our participant level (83) was at a record high Our number of vows (130) was at a record high Completed points (41,285) was at a record high Final score (26,197) was at a record high ... and this set us up nicely for ETL V

  9. Made some progress finally this weekend. It's been busy here. I really am impressed with the technical paints.
  10. ETL V was my first experience taking part in a proper event on the forum, and it really pushed me to clear through a massive backlog of unpainted Marines. I've been looking forward to this since that one ended, almost two years ago! Now various projects have come and gone in that time, and I must admit I was sorely tempted to pledge for the Xenos faction, given I have a fledgling Dark Eldar army in progress and I''m intending to add to it with Ynnari, Craftworlders and Harlequins. However, the majority of my hobby stuff involves Astartes of various flavours, and so I am once again going to be vowing on behalf of the Space Marines faction! In addition to the obvious goal of getting my myriad half-finished projects painted up, I have two personal goals I'm aiming for in order to better my own performance from ETL V: Paint more points than I did last time (4135) Complete 5 separate vows (last time I managed 4) I'll be using this thread to catalogue my progress through the event on the various different armies I have lined up for painting! I have conjured up 5 projects out of the various things I have sitting around unfinished at home. Project One - The Exorcists I built these guys as part of the recent Blood & Zeal event, as I'm intending to run them using the Black Templars rules. I originally envisioned them as a standalone army of around about 1000 points; there are a couple of extra kits I dredged up included along which boost that total up slightly, but they make up a relatively modest part of my overall plan and I don't expect to add to them over the course of the event. I'll be tackling these guys as part of my first vow! Project Two - The Argent Praetorians Imperial Fists successors with a Knightly Order vibe to them. There's a lot of sword iconography, robes, tabards and MKIII helms sprinkled around to emphasize that, and the odd kit borrowed from the Dark Vengeance box (namely Bikers and Librarian, because again, robes!). A lot of these guys will feature in my first vow too, although I'm considering adding some Primaris reinforcements later on in the event. Project Three - "The Victrix Guard" This probably is not what they will be called long term, but it's the term that gave birth to the idea. A band of warriors hand-picked by Guilliman to serve as his personal errand-boys (and/or Honour Guard) while he's out on crusade. My version will be a Primaris-focussed Ultramarines successor, led by various heroes of Ultramarine heritage and decked out in an inverse Ultramarines colour scheme (gold with regal blue), better to represent the Lord Commander of the Imperium (not to mention, look snazzy next to some Custodes) The core of this will be a repaint of the stuff from Dark Imperium, plus a handful of characters I kitbashed for the last ETL but never got around to vowing. I'm waiting on Guilliman himself and a few paints to arrive in support of this project, so they'll be reserved for Vow 2. It's not at all unlikely I'll pick up even more for these guys over the next couple of months. Project Four - The Astral Vipers So this one is going to involve a bunch of models that started life as an Alpha Legion Heresy force. Due to the fact that Heresy has been left behind by 8th Edition, the likelihood of them ever actually seeing play in a Heresy game has reduced to zero, so I'm re-purposing them for 40k. Now, while Alpha Legion themselves are cool, I'm actually going to be turning them into a loyalist Raven Guard successor. I'll need to remove some iconography on a few models (although I intentionally chose the name Vipers so I could keep using the cool scale-covered components here and there), and this gives me a bit of room to play around with the colour scheme too. I have these guys down for Vow 2, although I'll need to decide how I'm going to paint them first! Inspired by the discovery of an old Amethyst Purple pot in the loft, I'm leaning towards a metallic purple. Project Five - House Dawnstar I ended up with a couple of Armiger Warglaives going spare after trading some Forgebane sets about, and decided to keep them for myself. These will form the vanguard of an Imperial Knights projects, but I'm not sure whether or not i'll manage to add any of their bigger friends before the end of ETL. Not completely sold on a scheme yet, but I'm leaning towards a purple and bone scheme similar to the one that was in White Dwarf this past month. Thanks for reading all that waffle, and good luck to everybody taking part!

  14. Alrighty, so there seems to be this ETL thing on, so may as well join the dance, right? I got back into 40k around the start of this year, after having sold all my World Eaters about four years ago (haven't picked up a brush since). So, naturally, I thought I should paint a very fiddly army to welcome myself back! The main draw to Harlequins is definitely that they look cool, but I'm a semi-professional circus artist and magician, so there's a certain pull from that as well. So! Vow 1 is everything I currently have, being 2 Shadowseers, a Death Jester, a Solitaire, a Troupe Master, and a Troupe of 9 players, all armed with various weaponry. There's more ordered and on the way though! The paint scheme I'm trying to do is based of this deck of cards: http://bolterandchainsword.com/uploads/gallery/album_14517/med_gallery_54681_14517_72424.jpg And here they are undercoated: http://bolterandchainsword.com/uploads/gallery/album_14477/med_gallery_54681_14477_159693.jpg And here's where I stopped last night: I think I need to make it a brighter blue, but that's for tomorrow, I think. http://bolterandchainsword.com/uploads/gallery/album_14477/med_gallery_54681_14477_927565.jpg I also think i should figure out a proper place to take photos for them?

Here you’ll be able to submit vows that include the following units: · Codex: Adeptus Custodes · Forge World Adeptus Custodes Datasheets (pdf) · Codex: Imperial Knights · White Dwarf March 2019 Issue: Officio Assasinorum · Index Imperium 2: o All units from the Adeptus Astra Telepathica list o All units from the Inquisition list o All units from the Fortifications list · Imperial Armour Index – Forces of the Space Marines: o All units with the “Inquisition” keyword · Imperial Armour Index – Forces of the Astra Militarum: o All units from the Questor Imperialis list o All units from the Adeptus Titanicus list IMPORTANT NOTE: THE MIGHT OF THE IMPERIUM As mentioned in the main rules, participants who pledge for Imperial Agents will also have the option to pledge units that correspond to any other IFOR Forum as well! And that is the final source of our hopes and intentions. Aun'el T'au Tam'ya, Ethereal caste For those who don’t know what the ETL is, it’s an annual painting event where participants are invited to vow to paint 40k-legal units of their preferred army in a period of three months, recording their points’ values. For more details you may take a look at the previous ETL here (ETL VI), but also expect some additional changes for this year’s event! The expected time to launch is in early or mid May. ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://bolterandchainsword.com/uploads/gallery/album_13282/gallery_62353_13282_79899.jpg Our tanks were useless. As soon as we broke cover, their battlesuits' heavy guns were locked on to us. I swear it was as though they had someone nearby aiming for them before they shot. And when they did shoot...Emperor's mercy! Their guns punched through our armour like it was paper. All I could see were trails of fire where the projectiles had ignited the air. Guardsman Cauley, 25th Graian Rifles This will be the second time that the might of the T'au Empire will be mobilised to enter the ETL for The Greater Good and the Ethereals expect all Shas, Por, Kor and Fio caste members to acquit themselves well in the coming storm. It is the time for our young Empire to show these upstart races the strength of our mighty Her’ex’vre - the Kor'vattra will darken their skies with Sun Sharks, Razorsharks, Barracudas and Tiger Sharks - shoals of Hammerheads, Skyrays and Piranhas will rent their puny vehicles - Devilfish will carry our brave Shas towards the foe ably supported by our Kroot and Vespid allies and the heavy footfalls of our mighty Ta'unar will turn their bones to jelly in fear. T'au Outpost - ETL VI - (on our first time we where the best performing Xenos faction) Participants vowing for the T'au Empire will be able to draw units from the Codex and Forge World units so let’s take this opportunity to organize ourselves, measure our strength and see what everyone plans to pledge. We have a great range of miniatures, an 8th Edition Codex which has now had time to settle in and the flexibility of a young and vibrant race! Remember, the miniatures may be assembled and undercoated – but not otherwise worked on at the time of vowing them! It is but 2 Kai'rotaa in the future - be ready! When the Ethereal call... who will answer? http://bolterandchainsword.com/uploads/gallery/album_13282/gallery_62353_13282_114755.jpg Those with superior reach can dictate the terms of battle and impose their will upon their foe. Remember, the first step on the path to victory is often the most important. Commander Puretide The idea is to bring together the might of the T'au Empire in one thread to encourage each other in the upcoming ETL. Here we can post questions, ideas for vows and support and motivate each other in the months ahead. The main things to remember is, whatever your vow: It must be at the undercoat stage - this can also be a coloured primer and not just black and there is nothing wrong with assembling and priming your vows now so you can be ready as soon as the go is given... and it must be achievable in the time frame as any unfinished vows automatically void all your earlier work. Plan with care It is as we join with others, in a way that only the T'au can, in shared engagement to the Greater Good, that we find ourselves able to fully realize our true potential. And that is the final source of our hopes and intentions. Aun'el T'au Tam'ya, Ethereal caste

  18. For the first time in the ETL, we are introducing the title of "ETL Master Artificer", a title to be decided by the B&C community at large. The list above contains the names of the ETL VI participants that obtained the title of the Artificer in alphabetical order, and is the group from which the Master Artificer will emerge! Vote which one you prefer, and to help you decide, I have included in the next post, pictures with examples of the Artificers' work with pictures made and approved by them. A few pointers" Any member of the B&C is welcome to vote - you don't have to have participated in the ETL to do so. This is open to all. Vote on the basis of the quality work done (personal criteria obviously) - not on the basis of the in-Universe faction you prefer You do not have to justify your vow. If you want to leave comments however, feel free to do so. You may vote more than one option! You don't have to choose only one - unless of course you like only one option over and above everyone else. Vote which one(s) you prefer, and to help you decide, I have included below, pictures with examples of the Artificers' work with pictures taken and approved by them. This topic will remain open until Sunday, August 12, where the rank of the Master Artificer will be awarded to one of the above Artificers! 1. Augustus b'Raass: A Typhus to die for! 2. It makes even the least soldier mighty, the craven is remade worthy and through its balm any hardship may be endured. Faith ennobles all of the worlds the soldier undertakes be they so base or vile, and imports to them the golden spark of transcendent purpose."" - Lorgar Aurelian, Primarch of the Word Bearers The Chapter of the Anguished Wail The Chapter of the Anguished Wail, or the Ardat Kehyr as they are known in Colchisian, are one of many chapters that comprised the XVII Legion at the outbreak of the Horus Heresy. Identifiable to remembrancers by the screaming face enclosed by a spiked ring born upon their right pauldron, the Ardat Kehyr stalk the battlefield in heavily modified suits of power armour; the mournful wail from their modified vox-casters the last sound the Aurelian's many foes would hear. Since the treachery of the Word Bearers was revealed upon the fields of Istvaan V and Calth, the Ardat Kehyr have been sighted at numerous engagements across the galaxy, bringing glorious death and destruction to the ailing Imperium in the name of Lorgar and his new masters. Overview Hey everyone! I thought I'd throw together a proper project log for my homebrew Word Bearers chapter, the Anguished Wail, whilst I'm working on them. I've tried to produce a mildly organised thread with my experience on other forums (as well as observing other users here) for your view benefit, although I'm still not completely satisfied with it. Regardless, that's not all that important. When designing my Word Bearers, I had a few basic rules I kept to. Avoid overabundant Chaos imagery; geometric runes, Colchisian sigils, censers and candles are fine. Whilst the Heresy is underway it's still early days, and I don't feel as if they'd be as Chaos-y as they appear to be in 40k. Well, apart from Possessed Marines and Diabolists. Practicality comes first; capes, un-helmeted marines (which mildly inspired the Ardat Kehyr's fluff) and other incredibly unwieldy things are a big no-no. I'll admit, I broke my own rule with my vexilla bearer, however the rule of cool one out in that situation. It's all about having fun; if it isn't fun, it's not going to be worth doing. A project that loses luster because you've been chewing away until 3AM all week to finish painting isn't worth your time. Take it slow. Don't burn yourself out. Don't be an Ultramarine. With that in mind, here's a link to my first vow; I'd like to avoid adding any more photos into the thread willy-nilly until I've gotten my camera out and set up a decent space to take some pictures. That and I'd like to take the time to edit them. >_> I'll sort that section out once I've finished painting my first vow. Thanks for checking the thread out! \o
  20. Well to follow on my new post in the WIP forums bringing back Operation Reclamation, which some of you older members may remember form around 2010-11, here's the Completed, or "Reclaimed" thread, where I showcase the completed miniatures from my exploits! Now to start off with, I'm very embarrassed to say the first mini I'm showcasing is one that I in fact damaged/abused. After getting my first Storm Talon through the post from GW, I immediately got to work on building it and I decided it would be in the colours of my newest Space Marine army, a Crimson Fist successor called the "Vanquishers", who are the masters of city-fighting and urban warfare. Unfortunately, I made a mistake I will only ever do once, after discovering what a lamp's light bulb does to a Storm Talon if too close. I was trying to dry the blue wash on the cockpit glass, but I got too engrossed in an Imperial Armour book and must have lost a few minutes, which led to this horrific outcome, after 12 hours of work on it: http://bolterandchainsword.com/uploads/gallery/album_4148/med_gallery_26154_4148_361013.png Needless to say, I was pretty stunned and felt a bit hollow after seeing what I'd done, the Talon was so close to being finished too, all it needed was some washes, detail painting and transfers and then it would have been finished! But pretty much immediately after this moment of neglect happened, I immediately got to work on making emergency repairs, seeing this as a chance to make my Storm Talon look a teensy bit more unique. Grabbing my Green Stuff, I started to work on fixing the giant hole in the Talon and start making a base for my plasticard shrouding on the aircraft: http://bolterandchainsword.com/uploads/gallery/album_4148/med_gallery_26154_4148_1385745.png Eventually, I managed to build a suitable Plasticard cockpit shroud/cover, making it look like a field addition for added shielding and worked on finishing the Storm Talon and its base. Unfortunately, the painting gods were clearly not on my side as more calamities befell the Talon. My black wash went crazily goopy and all over the place, leading to horrific streaks and other nasties and the 'Ardcoat I added onto the cockpit area did not cooperate well with the plasticard, leading to a bit of a mess on the front edges...but I stuck to it and finished the Storm Talon up, leading to this: http://bolterandchainsword.com/uploads/gallery/album_6860/med_gallery_26154_6860_1499627.png http://bolterandchainsword.com/uploads/gallery/album_6860/med_gallery_26154_6860_336813.png And here's a better look at the base, where I made a custom satellite dish using a round base and some sprue pieces, along with other detritus I had in my bitz box. The Vanquishers are the masters of city/urban warfare, so I wanted to emphasise that with the pieces on the base: http://bolterandchainsword.com/uploads/gallery/album_6860/med_gallery_26154_6860_976452.png Whilst the Storm Talon isn't drop-dead gorgeous, I'm very proud and happy with how it looks after my huge error. Unfortunately, I had no way of repairing the upper vent intakes on the Talon, so I've kept them as they are and I've come up with a back story for this Storm Talon to explain its appearance: The Storm Talon "Kalore's Revenge", is a venerated aircraft in the armoury of the Vanquishers chapter. Kalore's Revenge has a very unique cockpit shrouding addition to it, along with distinctive battle damage along the top of its fuselage. This damage, and the subsequent naming of this Talon to be "Kalore's Revenge" emerged in the wake of the fall of the Hiveworld Kalore in M37; where a Chaos incursion, led by the Oblivion Warriors occurred. In the final days of the war, where the Imperial forces worked on evacuating as many citizens and Imperial assets as possible, the Storm Talon and its pilot, Techmarine Tandiel worked on harassing enemy aircraft to prevent them from attacking the evacuation forces. Despite the overwhelming numbers against Tandiel and his Storm Talon, they successfully brought down four Heldrakes and two Hellblades, before a squadron of Heldrakes managed to score a direct hit on the Storm Talon with a combined cataclysmic torrent of balefire. The top of the Storm Talon suffered serious damage, with the cockpit and upper fuselage being melted away and warped from the tainted flames, but remarkably, in his sheer stubbornness of refusing to die, Techmarine Tandiel and the Storm Talon continued to battle with the Chaos flyers, taking out the squadron with barely contained fury before retreating after expending all ammunition and running out of fuel. When Tandiel returned, his fellow Techmarines were stunned and awed by the damage wrought upon the aircraft and the apothecaries marvelled at how Tandiel was still alive, despite suffering catastrophic burns to his upper body and bionics. Eventually, with Kalore lost to an Exterminatus and the Vanquishers returning to their homeworld of Caeron, the Techmarines of the chapter began to work on repairing the Storm Talon. Despite the horrific damage from the taints of warpfire, they discovered that the Machine Spirit within the aircraft was defiant of the damage and still pure from any taint. Eventually, the Storm Talon and Tandiel were ready to take to the skies once more, with both having been extensively repaired and healed form their damage. The Storm Talon was giving extra reinforcing to repair its damage and was given an up-armoured cockpit, which also added sensor filters to better aid its pilot in dogfights. Upon flying with his Storm Talon once more, Tandiel declared that it would be renamed "Kalore's Revenge," bringing fire and vengeance for all those lost on Kalore. Kalore's Revenge continues to serve in the Vanquishers' forces, attached to the Fourth Company and has earned further honours since the Fall of Kalore. To pilot this aircraft is seen as a great honour and responsibility amongst the Techmarine pilots of the chapter and only the very best are permitted the honour to fly it into battle. And that's that! I will hopefully bring new images of reclaimed miniatures soon, now that I have a RT Land Speeder being stripped along with a classic Apothecary, so stay tuned! Any and all comments/critiques are greatly welcomed and appreciated! Cambrius
