WarriorFish
The additions look good - not too much but just right to add a bit more character. The coat is going to make him stand out nicely, keep up the good work and don't get too tired. You don't want to make any mistakes ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290906-bcks-etl-wip-vostroyans/page/2/#findComment-3694405 Share on other sites
Brother-Chaplain Kage
New power fist for the commissar, because the attempt at a rounded casing went awfully: http://i.imgur.com/xLFv3jh.jpg And the medicae, finally: http://i.imgur.com/J7tEleI.jpg http://i.imgur.com/DtXa4SE.jpg http://i.imgur.com/qBCk2Fh.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290906-bcks-etl-wip-vostroyans/page/2/#findComment-3696336 Share on other sites

Brother-Chaplain Kage
Excellent work on the medic, he's going to look very good when all finished up! Speaking of that guy... http://i.imgur.com/tew11rR.jpg I also have an update on the commissar, since I finally came up with something for his right hand: http://i.imgur.com/pecejBu.jpg The stick-cane-thing is going to have more work done to it, but I'd like to see what you think of the posing, brothers. WarriorFish
Both very good, I think the Commissar's pose is quite fitting. Disdain for the enemy's action is their default look! Kierdale
I love the posing! And your medic looks great too. The folds of the cloth and his bag...so well done. Brother-Chaplain Kage
Both very good, I think the Commissar's pose is quite fitting. Disdain for the enemy's action is their default look! I think he'd stare down a charging Chaos Marine. I love the posing! And your medic looks great too. The folds of the cloth and his bag...so well done. I'm getting more satisfied with the cloth sculpting, but there's still areas I'd like to improve in. And speaking of the medicae... You might have noticed there were any pictures of the medicae from behind, and that's because until tonight, the rear of the coat was just a roughed in 'form' of GS waiting for a top layer to be added and sculpted into cloth. http://i.imgur.com/aS53oTV.jpg There was a big, empty gap between the canteen and the medicae bag, and remembering that he is not wearing the re-breather, I decided he would be carrying it on his belt, stowed in a weatherproof pouch. I wanted to give the appearance of a good amount of weight in the pouch, because the masks look pretty substantial, so I sculpted in a lot of deep folds and angled the bottom end of it appropriately. It took me three tries to get it just how I wanted, and I've been looking at it so long tonight, I'm not sure how successful I was at the illusion I was going for. What do you think, brothers? Oh, and here's a teaser for something that will happen after the ETL is over, as it would take up too much time right now: http://i.imgur.com/aU79Thu.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290906-bcks-etl-wip-vostroyans/page/2/#findComment-3701405 Share on other sites
Kierdale
The pouch looks great. As you say, the shaping of the cloth makes the content look heavy. I'll have to remember that one. How did you do the buttons on it? I remember getting a similar effect using the tip of a mechanical pencil in the past. And the new mini... Tinkywinky...or is it Po? ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290906-bcks-etl-wip-vostroyans/page/2/#findComment-3701443 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
Kier you've been abroad too long, it's clearly Lala :P I think it looks very good, I could see the weight in it before I even read your text so you hit the nail squarely there :) I really can't wait to see these guys all painted! :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290906-bcks-etl-wip-vostroyans/page/2/#findComment-3701530 Share on other sites
Idlem
So...very, very jealous of your green stuff skills. The models are beautiful. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290906-bcks-etl-wip-vostroyans/page/2/#findComment-3705239 Share on other sites
Brother-Chaplain Kage
The pouch looks great. As you say, the shaping of the cloth makes the content look heavy. I'll have to remember that one. How did you do the buttons on it? I remember getting a similar effect using the tip of a mechanical pencil in the past. I'm glad the pouch worked out like I was wanting, and I used the tip of a mechanical pencil for the buttons. :) Kier you've been abroad too long, it's clearly Lala I think it looks very good, I could see the weight in it before I even read your text so you hit the nail squarely there I really can't wait to see these guys all painted! You're both wrong! It's Dipsy! They've got green coats! http://i.imgur.com/sCVD5nD.jpg So...very, very jealous of your green stuff skills. The models are beautiful. Thanks for the compliment, Idlem. :) With some regular practice, I think most people could get to this level of greenstuffing. Tomorrow, I hope to have an update with all 8 members of the command squad done for the modeling phase and then I can get on to painting. WarriorFish
Practice does make perfect, if I can get "not too bad" with GS then everyone can do it  Keep the updates coming BCK, you've created a level of expectation now :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290906-bcks-etl-wip-vostroyans/page/2/#findComment-3705825 Share on other sites
Brother-Chaplain Kage
So, I have completed the modeling phase for the last 3 members of the command squad! OotF: http://i.imgur.com/8ozWEPZ.jpg (OK, so he's not actually completed... I forgot about the boots again and didn't notice until cropping this photo, so I'll do that tomorrow) MoO: http://i.imgur.com/j8Pa0Dw.jpg And the standard bearer: http://i.imgur.com/OhuBqvx.jpg Instead of futzing with another eye, I decided to give him a metal patch over his left eye. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290906-bcks-etl-wip-vostroyans/page/2/#findComment-3707234 Share on other sites

Brother-Chaplain Kage
I got most of the command squad base coated with the green coats and bronze armor today, but life kept rearing its ugly head so I didn't make as much progress as I wanted. I did get more work done on the commander, but the camera and/or lights weren't cooperating. I finally gave up after 9-10 tries and went the best one, even though the colors were washed out, and by the time I adjusted them enough to be a close match for the figure, the face looks terrible. Ah well. http://i.imgur.com/0F6JxyF.jpg You can't really tell, but the interior of his coat is a much darker blue-green color than the outside, which is blue-grey. Brother-Chaplain Kage
My light set up kinda blows. I'm hoping to move into a new place soon and I'll try for a better rig when I do. Made some progress on the vox trooper tonight: http://i.imgur.com/N7hE5va.jpg Not sure what color to use for the rifle and the fur mantle just yet. chaplainmikey
Black is a good suggestion. Maybe a light brown? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290906-bcks-etl-wip-vostroyans/page/2/#findComment-3714963 Share on other sites
Brother-Chaplain Kage
Black could work. Since I'm wanting to keep as much of the figure in blue or green shades as possible, I could do the highlights with a blue color. Brother-Chaplain Kage
I have a sad announcement to make, brothers. This command squad will most likely be my only vow for the ETL and once finished, I won't be making another as I had originally planned. As I'm probably 80% builder and 20% painter(and I'm being generous with those numbers), the steam is already running out on these guys and I'm starting to get bogged down with the painting. Also, the Muse is dragging me in another direction, and I can only fight Her off for so long. Kierdale
In that case the one you do complete will be all that much more special. Your work is fantastic, don't let yourself get bogged down as your work will suffer if your heart is not in it. Projects can always be returned to (for fine detailing, etc.). But please do finish this one squad! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290906-bcks-etl-wip-vostroyans/page/2/#findComment-3715246 Share on other sites
Brother-Chaplain Kage
I intend to paint them to a decent standard, and not to worry, my pledged points will go to this forum. WarriorFish
That's ok, the most important thing is you did your part! As long as you complete all your vows it doesn't matter if you made 1 or 5, 50pts or 5,000! :) As long as you keep working on your Vostroyans that is ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290906-bcks-etl-wip-vostroyans/page/2/#findComment-3715336 Share on other sites
Captain Juan Juarez
This thread is a work of GS genius; bravo sirrah. That Fleet Officer conversion is sublime and even though I am not a fan of Creed, you've made that particular mini eminently likeable!
