New power fist for the commissar, because the attempt at a rounded casing went awfully:

And the medicae, finally:

Excellent work on the medic, he's going to look very good when all finished up!

Speaking of that guy...

I also have an update on the commissar, since I finally came up with something for his right hand:

The stick-cane-thing is going to have more work done to it, but I'd like to see what you think of the posing, brothers.

Both very good, I think the Commissar's pose is quite fitting. Disdain for the enemy's action is their default look!

I think he'd stare down a charging Chaos Marine.

I love the posing!

And your medic looks great too. The folds of the cloth and his bag...so well done.

I'm getting more satisfied with the cloth sculpting, but there's still areas I'd like to improve in. And speaking of the medicae...

You might have noticed there were any pictures of the medicae from behind, and that's because until tonight, the rear of the coat was just a roughed in 'form' of GS waiting for a top layer to be added and sculpted into cloth.

There was a big, empty gap between the canteen and the medicae bag, and remembering that he is not wearing the re-breather, I decided he would be carrying it on his belt, stowed in a weatherproof pouch. I wanted to give the appearance of a good amount of weight in the pouch, because the masks look pretty substantial, so I sculpted in a lot of deep folds and angled the bottom end of it appropriately. It took me three tries to get it just how I wanted, and I've been looking at it so long tonight, I'm not sure how successful I was at the illusion I was going for. What do you think, brothers?

Oh, and here's a teaser for something that will happen after the ETL is over, as it would take up too much time right now:

The pouch looks great. As you say, the shaping of the cloth makes the content look heavy. I'll have to remember that one.

How did you do the buttons on it? I remember getting a similar effect using the tip of a mechanical pencil in the past.

And the new mini...

Tinkywinky...or is it Po? ;)

Kier you've been abroad too long, it's clearly Lala :P

I think it looks very good, I could see the weight in it before I even read your text so you hit the nail squarely there :) I really can't wait to see these guys all painted! :D

I'm glad the pouch worked out like I was wanting, and I used the tip of a mechanical pencil for the buttons. :)

You're both wrong! It's Dipsy! They've got green coats!

So...very, very jealous of your green stuff skills. The models are beautiful.

Thanks for the compliment, Idlem. :)

With some regular practice, I think most people could get to this level of greenstuffing.

Tomorrow, I hope to have an update with all 8 members of the command squad done for the modeling phase and then I can get on to painting.

So, I have completed the modeling phase for the last 3 members of the command squad!

(OK, so he's not actually completed... I forgot about the boots again and didn't notice until cropping this photo, so I'll do that tomorrow)

And the standard bearer:

Instead of futzing with another eye, I decided to give him a metal patch over his left eye. :)

I got most of the command squad base coated with the green coats and bronze armor today, but life kept rearing its ugly head so I didn't make as much progress as I wanted.

I did get more work done on the commander, but the camera and/or lights weren't cooperating. I finally gave up after 9-10 tries and went the best one, even though the colors were washed out, and by the time I adjusted them enough to be a close match for the figure, the face looks terrible. Ah well.

You can't really tell, but the interior of his coat is a much darker blue-green color than the outside, which is blue-grey.

My light set up kinda blows. I'm hoping to move into a new place soon and I'll try for a better rig when I do.

Made some progress on the vox trooper tonight:

Not sure what color to use for the rifle and the fur mantle just yet.

I have a sad announcement to make, brothers.

This command squad will most likely be my only vow for the ETL and once finished, I won't be making another as I had originally planned.

As I'm probably 80% builder and 20% painter(and I'm being generous with those numbers), the steam is already running out on these guys and I'm starting to get bogged down with the painting. Also, the Muse is dragging me in another direction, and I can only fight Her off for so long.

In that case the one you do complete will be all that much more special.

Your work is fantastic, don't let yourself get bogged down as your work will suffer if your heart is not in it. Projects can always be returned to (for fine detailing, etc.).

But please do finish this one squad! :)
