Fanthology -- Lots of work yet to do.

I have a couple of announcements to make.

Quick ones first: the submission window for the first Fanthology has closed. I think we should have enough to work with here. I have yet to read through everything but I'll be doing so shortly. Which brings me to my next point.

MasterHQ generously reached out to me to offer some help. He has relevant experience in both editing and publishing and, even though he's busy, we'll be looking over the submissions and comparing some notes. He's not going to be writing anything this time around either, and he's offered his services in terms of providing extra feedback and support to the writers as needed. Don't be surprised if you receive an email from him as well. Let's all take a moment to thank him.

Both myself and HQ set up Google Hangout accounts but we've never used it before. I'd love to get some live chats/calls in for feedback sessions. Anyone use FaceTime or Google Hangouts or Skype? What's your preference?

Never used any of them barring a quick jaunt on Skype before. And even then, it was text only at the time.

On a different note, could you say how many authors there will be for this first fanthology? Would it be possible to provide the names of the stories this early on?

That's great news, I need all the help I can get. I'm not writing a short story so I can get my ideas viewed by everyone, that's just a bonus of course. I'm writing these to further my skills and learn from others, who coincidentally will be learning from me too. Having someone experienced also overlooking each submission and giving critique from their unique perspective is very much welcome.

Once I get them all together I'll do just that.

Just a quick note to make it officially known: MasterHQ is taking over the publisher role. He brings a lot more to the table in this regard than I do and I am confident this will make the finished work all the better.

I still have my eye on the project, though, as I'm very keen to see it thrive.

So perhaps a little intro about me is in order, so you all know a bit about me - the sudden latecomer to the project.

I have loved 40k since 2nd edition. I would have loved it before that, but I was too young to understand. I have been playing the game and reading the fluff for over half of my life.

I first came to B&C years ago, and I am the very definition of longtime lurker. I dont post much, but I read a lot.

I have 5 years of editing experience, and I own and operate an e-publishing business. No, you havent heard of it. I launched in January and am almost ready to release the first book.

I am super excited to see this project thrive and to contribute my skills and talents to make it as good as it can be!

Alright, 'ere we go. I've got 19 submissions so far (not stories, mind, some had more than one idea) from 17 peeps. I'll list the names of the submitters here so you can see if you didn't make it across for some reason. Not all the submissions have titles, so I'll not post those. In alphabetical order, here are the submitters.

If your name is on this list, and you think it shouldn't be, send me a DM.

Now, MasterHQ and myself will be reading through the submissions and comparing notes to begin making our selections. I can't say for certain how many stories will be included at this point. I'll talk things over with MasterHQ and Brother Tyler before we decide.

Hit me up if you have any questions.

EDIT: Added Vult to the list. His email got screwed up the first time around. Also, thanks, Ludo, for putting them in order. :D

It's almost like seeing my name in lights - I told them I'd be famous!

Unsurprisingly there very few names on that list that I'm not familiar with, so to those few I have never encountered - howdy and I look forward to seeing us work together in an orgy of fiction.

I'm probably one of those...seeing as only joined last year (but I've dropped by from time to time before that). I've been into 40k since I happened upon Rogue Trader back in...hallowed antiquity...I can't quite remember the year, but the Compendium was out and shortly thereafter the Compilation...so around 1990 maybe? So that means I've read novels containing lasgun-firing marines and squats...

Anyway: I happened to have some power-armoured short stories ready when I saw the fantology announcement, so I handed them in.

I remember the first time I discovered GW, via White Dwarf, based on the issue that was available that month - but I don't know what number or year it was except that is must be nearing two decades ago by now!

Green Knight, hail sirrah and well met! We, because I'm apparently schizophrenic, look forward to seeing your work.

Woooo! Made the first cut!

I actually didn't think I would.

If you haven't interacted with me yet, well, I promise I don't bite. Often. And almost never with any ferocity.

My main goal at this point is to not let my brain-child down. It would be awfully pathetic of me to fail my own invention, even if other people are at the helm because they make better brain-parents...oh Grod help me I'm talking like Michael Scott. The end must be near...

Jeff and I are reading through submitted stories and ideas. We read independently and then compare notes. We have only been through a few. Its a long process and I have no idea how much longer it will take. We did 3 yesterday.

We are enjoying what we read so far! We should soon have a list of those who made the cut.
