Hey everyone. Long time lurker feel it is high time I started posting some of my stuff. Currently working through the plastic mountain and it is the turn of some Wolves of Fenris to get some love.

I have painted 13th Company/preheresy style wolves before but never the more blue grey style. Been a lot of fun doing these so far. I don't usually paint in sub assemblies but thought I'd give it a go with these guys. Not sure I'm a huge fan of it think in future I will build most and just keep things separate if they make things awkward when airbrushing or reaching with a sable brush.

Here is my current progress stuck together and waiting for some washing and shading. They look really odd with no black lining!

And the back packs and shoulder pads are on their way

Will post more updates soon. Hopefully it will keep me focused and motivated.

Thanks for the kind words guys really makes want to get back to the table.

@Sons_of_Erebus: The gold is gw Balthasar gold applied in a couple of thinned coats then highlighted with sycorax bronze. Use water rather than a medium when thinning metallics abd they will be shiny as the colour builds up smoothly. The highlights were applied by over brushing on some areas to exaggerate the reflection.

I'm planning on giving these guys an oil wash after a gloss varnish. If I don't like a test piece I'll just thin down some black paint and do it the long way.

Looking good so far matey, I will be keeping an eye on this to see your progress thumbsup.gif I also tend to paint in bits and then put them together as their paint jobs are finished but it can get fiddly and make things seem to take a long time ! All the best with the rest of the Rout :)

Well it was going ok until I tried experimenting with an oil wash. I ended up not thinning it enough and even after a couple of hours of cleanup it has left them looking grimy and not in a good way. Still I'll chalk this one up as a learning curve as otherwise I'll just get irritated with them and that defeats the point.

Sub assemblies definitely something I'll be doing again. Thanks for the encouragement guys really kept me going when I wanted to throw them at a wall. For now something entirely different but the wolves will be back!

Wow they look absolutely amazing!! Any chance of a picture when the black wash was too thick, so we can see how you salvaged them??

And if you ever fancy throwing models, especially models as nice as these anywhere.... Throw them at me :D I'd be more than happy to save them rom the wall!!

These are looking really excellent, and if you wrecked them with the oil wash, you did a remarkable job cleaning them up!

If it makes you feel better, I once grabbed a can of black primer that I thought was flat finish and sprayed it over finished models...

I will be following this thread with interest!
