Looking for Input and Advice on creating an AdMech Force

So, Brothers, Sisters and Undecided, I am looking for your advice and insight.

 

While I am slowly collecting my 30 k models and considering which Legion to field, I' ve decided to build up a core ADMech ( well, Dark AdMech especially ) main force and build up my Legion forces to a point where I can use the AdMech as Allies.

 

My basic considerations are:

 

Legio Cybernetica:

-as they were embedded in the various Legions and can be build more force centered than specific to a single Forgeworld

- low model count, ensuring my hopes of having a painted, battle ready force in a realistic timeframe

- killer robots from the future!

 

I am looking for a force in the 2000 points frame and would like to base my army on Automatons, so Castellax would be my main troop choice and Thanatos heavy support with Magi and Enginseer to lead them.

 

My questions are:

Are robot heavy armies playable in this point frame ( not necessarily competitive, but fun )

How big are the Castelax models?

I might want to add some modification to make them more "Dark Mechanicus" so compatible part swaps or stand ins would be nice. I like the look of Warmachine's Cryx Necrotechnology and might want to use some parts or maybe base some on the Warjacks...

Can the Heads in the torso cavity be removed or switched?

using the taghmata list will allow you to have castellax but they cant be mandatory troop choices so you will have to look to the thallax and tech thralls for your troop fulfilment.

 

You need to look at the pics on the FW site to compare the castellax size - im working away from home so dont have at hand.

 

Ive drawn up a rough 2k list that is still in need of some tweaking but generally consists of

 

Archmagos Satarael + 3 x Cyber Occularis

 

Tech Priest Auxillia (Lycraemarta flavoured) - 4 x servo have las locks

 

Adsecularis Covenant x 20 las locks + revenant alchemistry

3 x thallax - 1 x photon thruster

6 x thallax - 6 x heavy chain blade, 6 x melta bombs in Triaros transport

 

3 x castellax - 2 x Mauler 1 x Multi Melta, all flamer fists

 

3 x Myrmidon Destructors - 3 x Grav Imploders

1 x Thanator siege 'bot

1 x Krios Venator

 

I am taking serious consideration in dropping the thanator to put another venator in and alter my troop selection.

 

They are worse than the death korps for finding a happy selection within an alloted point range - go with the rule of cool - if you like it then buy it. 

As for the 'quick to paint' idea - mine are still nearly all resin as ive had very little time at home this year so will be attacking them with the airbrush in a couple of weeks or putting them out to commission :)

I was going Cybernetica because Castellax should be Troop Choices. Krios Venator is a nice kit, though.
