I guess the big question is, are you happy with it? msn-wink.gif

I believe so, quite honestly it's better than I had expected to do and I credit that to the terrific amounts of support and ZEAL I've received here.

Once I get the transfers on and a squad lined up and its not just a single model, I have a feeling it will look even better.

At arms' length, which is what I use to gauge "tabletop quality", I think it's pretty obvious that they are Black Templar and that someone spent the time to make them look decent.

Evaluating the quality of models from "arm's length" or "gaming perspective" is the best way to do it! That is the middle ground which allows you to always be satisfied with the results and it also is the "natural" perspective for most of the people who'll see your models: a black mass of zeal quickly approaching their lesser models on the gaming table.

Question:

I'm trying to figure out how to paint the sun burst halo shoulder pad from the tac squad box.

It's on my plasma gunner so I was considering going with a red as a fiery violent color but I'm not sure. It's against a white background so it's intimidating to go with a crazy color.

I think it looks pretty good. I can clearly see all the small details in his armor that would otherwise disappear in the black. Using a drybrush will have the effect of having a more greyish color than black, but that's ok. I think the head might have gotten a little too much but it's not bad. I notice you cleaned up the eyes and painted the chest straps. They look good.

Could always wash black or dark grey over it if it gets to grey, also gives a nice color spectrum.

Depends on your method and the standard you go for. Mine is fairly basic but I found my land raider and and dread were quick to paint in comparison to my progress on a full unit of equivalent-point infantry. Less detail generally, I think, and more forgiving.

I have no defined method at this point, it's all trial and error.

Level of quality or finish will be table top, maybe a bit more. Looking for something that looks good from arm's length.

Cool, much like myself then - something that looks cool as a gaming piece rather than a golden demon entry! Vehicles are surely your friends here ;)

Good to hear. That's what I'm looking for, something to look cool while I blow up the Xeno and Witches.

Through shared sacrifice, each brother contributing what he can, will a Crusade overcome all opposition. In the end, what matters is could you be counted on when your chapter needed you the most.

Now take your vow and deliver a full measure of ZEALous wrath upon the heretic, the weak, and the unforgiven.

ONWARDS!

Vow #2 complete http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/290382-e-tenebrae-lux-iii-angels-of-death-strategium/page-41?do=findComment&comment=3743734

First BT vehicle, I gotta say I think I did fairly good. My favorite part is the edge highlighting.

Very nice mini. So after watching you ponder your chapter of choice, what made you finally decide on Templars?

Been a fan of them since I started 40k.

Main things I liked were:

* cool color scheme and not too difficult to paint

* Access to bolt pistol and chainsword squads (I like the aesthetics)

* They were one of the legions present at the battle of Terra.

* They are still crusading 10,000 years later.

Background wise, they are still one of my top 3 faves.  I had a lot of fun in the BT section back in the day... I always believed the BT were the closest to pursuing the Emperor's vision in 40k. I also personally believe they are perhaps the biggest (even the Inquisition is worried about their size.)

All around I think it's a bit of a shame they didn't get a supplement... I've never seen them as really big followers of the Codex Astartes... just personal opinion.

After what happened to the Iron Hands, we do not want a supplement. The Risk to Reward ratio is too great. I wouldn't want to find out that Sigismund came to the conclusion that maybe Horus was right after all and the deep seated reason why we adopted black was so it would be easier for us to join up with the Black Legion.
