I missed the entry about adding people because I was only looking on terminator upgrades, thanks.

 

Generally, how about solarite gauntlet? When is worth its use? I still cant decide if is better for praetor to have solarite or paragon. But where else you should use solarite? Its worth it in normal terminator squad, like for example for sergeant? Everybody plays squad with mix of powerfists and chainfists, where and when put solarite into this mix?

Sergeants can't take Solarite Power Gauntlets.

 

I'd only give a Praetor such weapon if he sits on a Bike or Jetbike and even then I'd prefer the Blade. Apart from that I'd always stick with the Paragon Blade.

They're the same as a Master Crafted Power Fist, as the AP1 only changes its damage against vehicles.

 

A master crafted power fist is nice, especially with a Storm Shield to be tanky, but a Paragon blade is generally better.

Something I read a while ago that might be worth considering: your praetor will likely always be in a challenge due to IF rules. With a paragon blade he will strike at I with a chance of causing instant death. With a fist, he will just need to survive one round of attacks and cause one unsaved wound to trigger instant death against most marine characters, his most likely target. So if you are going for a terminator praetor, consider using fist plus shield to ensure he survives that first round and then pastes his opponent to the ground. You can do that with a normal fist so no need for the power gauntlet, so you might even save some points. But the master-crafted will help you get one hit, which will likely translate into a wound thanks to strength 8.

It is true that the paragon blade will be more versatile, but depending on your local scene and the role you want to give your praetor a fist might be a good idea.

Remember though, that a Primus Medicae in TDA still retains his needle pistol and would thus benefit.

Now that Phalanx Warders have taken a nice buff and points decrease, are they worth taking in big blobs? You nearly get an 80 point discount for doubling up.

 

10 Phalanx Warders, 2 Meltaguns, 4 Power Axes, and 1 Powerfist is 250 points.

 

20 Phalanx Warders, 4 Meltaguns, 8 Power Axes, and 1 Powerfist is 420 points.

Yes - I think they’re viable.

 

I’d add MB and a SPG to the Sgt and a vexilla.

 

An apothercary and character (I’m think a herald) would help both resilience and combat output.

 

A large squad in a Stone Gauntlet list will be very hard to shift - to the point that you don’t need a spartan.

So i have never thought i would end up here in this part of the forum but as life goes on i found a group of other players willing to board the Age of Darkness train.

Short:

I stopped playing 40k with 7th edition cause i had no fun in my old group, now i found a new one going to play the games i like and willing to start some Heresy armies i found the way back to the Sons of Dorn (I played Black Templers till 4th Edition :tongue.: )

We are mostly a beer and pretzels pack of players, so its most time bring the models you like and have fun, cause noone wants to be "that"-guy.

 

My start is actually a Battle of Calth box, a Burning of Prospero Box, Pollux, some limited Centurion with power fist and a mostly build Storm Eagle (a BT project that got scrapped cause FW rules were banned in my old group for being overpowerd).

 

I plan on doing a proper Legion start so there will be no Pride of the Legion list for the start.

Actually im waiting for some conversion stuff to arrive to start building and working on my yellow paint skill.

 

I will start an

2x 10 man Breacher Squads

1x 10 man Tactical Squad as standard

 

all three will get more bodies when i expand

 

10 will be a Heavy support Squad they will probably get the heavy volkite guns for heaving some deathray fun

 

10 will be a Seeker Squad, going with Bolters for the time being (i need to see which combi weapons i will need)

 

for the last 10 bodies im undecieded either a Support Squad with special guns (rotary canons for the brrrrt fun)

or a 10 man Phalanx Warder Squad 

 

Yes i like marines with shields. :blush.:

 

the 5 Tartaros from Burning of Prospero will get Shields and Fists, maybe a Thunderhammer for the Sarge.

the 5 other terminators will get a assault canone and either volkite or combi-bolters, not decided yet.

 

Dread from the box will probably get chainfist and volkite gun for mor deathray fun.

 

 

I will get more Marines and other basic stuff like Rhinos etc.

 

My opponents will bring:

Iron Warriors, World Eaters, Ultramarines, Blood Angels and Word Bearers and will start with the basic stuff like me.

 

I will probably buy some Forgeworld Tanks, so can you tell me how fun it is to play the following units:

 

Sicaran Punisher

Sicaran Arcus Strike Tank

Caestus Assault Ram

Legion Glaive (giant Deathray:blush.: )

Stormblade (giant sized marine plasma gun )

To give you a quick run down of the above -


 


Punisher - Great for BRRRRRRRT, and Fast too. However, if you're planning on taking a bunch of Volkite in the form of a Heavy Support Squad and the Contemptor, then it's probably doing much the same as those, AND taking up a HS slot. If it were me, I'd probably drop the HSS and take the Sicaran because it's IMHO the coolest looking variant, but YMMV. Also, a VII Legion HSS with Lascannons is never a bad choice. They could cover your anti-armour, and the Punisher can whip around chomping up infantry.


 


Arcus - At the moment, this is almost a 'That Guy' choice. It's not broken, but its current rules are very, very good. It's a threat to everything, especially vehicles because one of its missile types gives you D3 rolls on the damage chart for Pens. Try it out by all means, but it may not be a completely beer and pretzels choice.


 


Caestus - I've not used one myself, but have seen it used to great effect as a means of dropping your Warlord (or a Primarch) and a stack of Terminators into exactly the worst possible place. It's a flyer obviously, so it comes with some downsides and disadvantages, but it's AV13 and hits like a Tank. Think of it like a Mini-Thunderhawk that you can crash into things and you won't be far off. However, again, it's a HS choice, which is getting crowded!


 


Glaive/Stormblade - Putting these together because you only get one LoW choice and they're kind of similar. I'd put the Glaive over the Stormblade simply because it's a 'proper' Legion tank and, you know, big Volkite gun. However, for all the advantages of the Beam rule its main gun gets, the Glaive still only hits at S8, whereas the Stormblade manages S10, with a 10" blast, no less.

I may add that you can not transport a Primarch in a Caestus due to their unique armours.

I thought it was clarified that they could be transported, they just always count as Very Bulky, as opposed to Terminator Armour which doesn't?
They clarified that Primarchs don't count as wearing Power-, Artificer- or Terminator Armour. Therefore cannot be transportet by a Caestus Assault Ram. :/

The Glaive is huge, and its just a S8 Volkite ray, no template really, you buy this one for the looks, not for expecting it to perform on the battlefield. All the other tanks built on the same chassi have guns that are better than this one, so if you expect battlefield performance, go for the Falchion instead, although it doesn't look nowhere as cool as the Glaive.

 

If you want to get any of the Sicaran versions, I suggest that you buy the Sicaran you want (I got the regular one with autocannons), and the you also by this:

Cut out a ring out of 1 mm plasticard that as the outer and inner diam as measured on the Sicaran turret hole where the inner diameter of the ring is same as turret hole diameter and then the outer is like 3-4 mm wider, this will give you a spacer ring that will make your Kromlech Scorpius/Arcus launcher fit better on the turret hole.

 

Doing this will give you the option to run an Sicaran Arcus on top of the sicaran you bought.

 

Advantage with Sicaran Arcus is the anti air option, at higher points you will face more fliers, and then you'd like some anti air. The nice thing with Arcus is that it gives anti air and ground attack with the same unit.

And of course the Legiones Astartes Age of Darkness Army List. There you'll find the Caestus. It's rules clearly state that it can only transport models in Power- Artificer or Terminator Armour. Since Primarchs have neither they cannot be transported.
