Page 3 Onwards for the Dalea VII campaign 171st vs Orks...

Indeed, the charge could have been so different had the Lord and Priest been involved.

I found it good. Blobs aren't allowed as no units larger than 15, range isn't an issue and so in light of that the short range on the scions is not a disadvantage it is on a normal game.

The mortalis rules are available for download on their download section of their website. Blast and template get shred which is nice, plus blast only scatters onto the wall and stays there.

Will do though my time may be taken by space hulk for a while. Hahaha

The Game being played was Bases, and the deployment was corners. The Orks won the dice off so deployed first.

This was my deployment and you can just make out one of the infiltrated Kommando squads. (Both were on that Flank.)

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e301/chrisburnett2010/geekery/20150224_201959.jpg

This was the scene after my movement in Turn 2. as you can see, it hasn't gone well!

The first shots fired in Turn one were 2 Rokkits from the Kommando Boyz which resulted in a Shaken and 2 x Hull points removed for my Wyvern. this then got finished off on his turn 2 so didn't fire a single shot.

The Deathstrike was hit by the second bit of shooting in turn. this resulted in a Hull point and a weapon destroyed. Being this close forced me to drive back in turn 1 and with that and the weapon destroyed result, delayed my launcher enough before it got ripped up in combat.

the chimeras never made it out of my deployment zone as you can see by the craters where they should have been though i did finish off the rampaging trucks.

His game plan was ignore the objective and close in as fast as you can. A scary amount of significant bodies and targets to shoot.

Here is the scene in pictures.

Some close flying by the Valks i'm sure you'll agree!

After that my pictographer ran out of juice meaning I didn't get any more pics.

Some comedy things did happen in that his killkannon aimed for my men but scatted back towards himself and actually ended up killing a Killer Kan in the back! woohoo!

My Snipers (including Lasgunners) were useless and only achieved one hit until my turn 5 when they went on the move to re-claim my objective (behind my bunker where the CCS had just been wiped out in combat). they then caused 2 wounds from snap-fire sniper fire and a lasgun wound! madness.

Everyone had an inate ability to make combat work and failed charges at least once before actually doing it. this included my Ogryns. they actually didn't do half a bad job and will now be getting painted in recognition for their efforts.

at the end of the 6th turn I had 2 Valks and 1 x Infantry squad remaining,

All in all, the points were;

Chris = First Blood, Linebreaker, Ork Base (held by the Infantry squad released from a Valk.)

Ian = Warlord, Linebreaker,

The other Valk was contesting the Guard objective and thus denying him a Draw as the Knobs holding it no longer count as troops and so don't get OBJ SEC.

Thanks for reading c & c welcome

To all commanders, level Omega.

There has been reports of an Ork Invasion from the PDF located on <classified> in the <classified> sector.

Reports suggest that they are being over-run but have held a high account of themselves.

The 171st have been sent to assist and will report back over the next 24 terran hours with a full battle report and update.

Early indications suggest a full scale Waagh is in place and may take a while to replel the foul xenos.

Fellow Generals, leaders and other VIPs to whom this may concern.

I Lord General Gunders Anderson of the 171st have been deployed to what I can only say is a miserable but essential world in our glorious empire. The world of Dalia XII sent a transmission requesting help after a substantial Ork Force made planet-fall and only the local PDF were available to defend. Being withing 2 days warp jump after fighting in the Forsarr sector put us in prime position to respond swiftly.
Early reports indicate that this is a sub-Waaagh connected to the Waaagh Garaghak that is consuming the region. We can only surmise that due to being a huge supplier of promethium and other less important minerals, that this is why the Orks have landed to aid the bigger Waaagh on Garaghak's orders.

The local PDF were lucky in the respect that the latest Tithe of manpower to boost a regiment of the Administratums choosing were 98% ready to leave meaning they were as 'battle ready as you can expect of such a 'Weekend Warriors' force. Though only supporting basic mass produced weaponry and no prior battle experience the held their lines for the most part.
It had been chosen to light up and abandon some smaller refineries to aid the defense of the main refinery held in the Northern Hemisphere, where the main Ork force made landfall in Rocks and other debris from the space hulk that appears to have bought them to this system.

What follows is a report of the actions of the main battle before our Vanguard units arrived into the fray.

Ok, Scenario was the Breakthrough mission (2nd) in the Stronghold Assault book. We used the force org/formation/detachment whatever its called these days located in said book.

An example of why we paint our heavy weapons teams so we don't place tanks in front of them, unless it is PDF incompetence? Jury is still out........

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e301/chrisburnett2010/geekery/IMG-20150305-WA0004.jpg

Turn 1 started with no seizing of the initiative. Hurrah! time to strike a devastating blow......

The Infantry blob with the priest on my Left flank moved left and forwards, leaving a gap for the Exterminator to move into allowing the HWT to actually see the enemy. Luckily they held when all they could see ahead was bikers, a Battlewagon and some cans!
The Wyvern Moved to the Right slightly and the Flamer PCS held their ground in the Bunker (ready to pounce from the escape hatch halfway between the bunker and the Bastion in the middle).

Here is the scene before shooting....

and after a spectacular fail of any effective orders or shooting. the Hellhound did the most damage. Targeting the nearest Truck, utilizing torrent allowed it to hit the Lootas trukk also. This resulted in a glance on the Lootas trukk, 6xlootas burned to death inside and 4x boyz burned to death on the other truck. the Heavy bolter also hit the trukk directly ahead inflicting a Hull point also.
The battlecannon and wyvern targetted the biker mob killing one a piece but they passed morale tests.

Here is the scene.

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e301/chrisburnett2010/geekery/20150304_202406.jpg
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e301/chrisburnett2010/geekery/20150304_202428.jpg

The Ork reply was hard and swift. the Boyz got out of the trukk in front of the Hellhound readying themselves for assault as their rokkit screamed overhead.

The rest of the army advanced. The Bikers ignored their guns and turbo-boosted towards the imperials. The Battlewagon with the Killkannon moved 12" limiting the Rokkits to snap-fire, though one still caused the Chimera to receive an Immobilized result!

The Boyz then charged the Hound and promptly wrecked it with the power klaw.

My Turn 2

I responded by having a successful roll getting the Valk on, deployed the PCS out the escape hatch and moved my Priest mob towards the Bikers. I also adjusted the position of all the Heavy tanks.

Shooting began well with rolling a double 1 on the orders, unfortunately no-one took advantage of them by mostly missing! Combined firepower from the Exterminator and the HB on the Bunker dropped a Kan, the PCS flamers dealt a killer blow on the Bikers, Killing all bar a nob and one Boy with aid from the flamers in the priest nob.

The battlecannon did nothing against the battlewagon on the right. the Autocannons of the INF in the Aegis dropped a Kopta forcing the remaining one to flee, and due to tight packing of the boyz who wrecked the Hound the Wyvern managed to inflict a crushing 16 wounds killing all.

Here are some pics after that

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e301/chrisburnett2010/geekery/IMG-20150305-WA0005.jpg

The Priest mob then successfully charged the Bikers who dropped 3 on the overwatch. The Priest successfully passed his check and then declared to re-roll armour saves in a bid to ensure I remained in combat. His wish was answered after only killing one boy and having 2 killed in return.

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e301/chrisburnett2010/geekery/20150304_212808.jpg

His reply was move swiftly and shoot what he could. On the left flank his Kans charged into Combat to aid the doomed bikers. the deffkopta sqn tried to advance towards the Exterminator but their rokkits couldn't target the command Chimera. the battlewagon on the Left moved 12" again meaning only snap-shots from the rokkits which knocked another hull point from the command chimera.
The Trukk on the right charged towards the Valkyrie going flat-out for the board edge. The Battlewagon on the right moved 12" also and it and the boyz on-board tried snap-shooting the Valk out of the sky but failed. the Lootas in the Trukk killed 2 of the flamer PCS.

The last Biker died and even though my priest passed a Hymn test for smash he failed to damage a Kan. He the heroically saved 2 wounds on his invulnerable.

My 3

I put the Valk into Hover moving back towards my table edge, and moved my heavy tanks slightly. My flamer pcs went towards the Lootas Trukk.

Shooting resulted in the exterminator reducing the deffkoptas on the left flank to dust, the Flamer PCS targeted the Lootas Trukk and took the last hull points and burned 5 of the occupants inside the trukk. the remaining Loota stood in the wreckage was killed by the PCS on the bunker.
The Missile team once again failed to do anything to the battlewagon on the left.

Meanwhile in the Priest combat, he once again passed his hymn test getting smash again and caused a hull point of damage on a kan. Also he then passed 3 INV saves and survived the round again!

ORK 3

He charged his Trukk further forward and his Battlewagons both advanced. the Boyz in the right battlewagon shot and then charged the squad in the Aegis causing more wounds than I. I then failed my leadership test and got cut down. Meanwhile the Priest once again passed a Hymn though didn't hit hard enough again. He did however pass another 2 INV saves!

Here is a picture,

and the remaining boyz in the Aegis.

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e301/chrisburnett2010/geekery/20150304_222137.jpg

Turn 4

I Zoomed the Valk into his deployment zone going flat out, adjusted my tanks slightly and opened fire. the Trukk on the Right flank was finally knocked out, The boyz in the Aegis were knocked out again by some more very accurate Wyvern fire, and the battle wagons failed once again to receive any damage.

The Ork Turn turbo-boosted a remaining deffkopta towards my table edge aiming to break-through, and both Battle wagons advanced in the same direction. No Gunfire of any significance happened either.

Unfortunately the priest ran out of luck and died this turn, ans subsequently the remaining men tried a "Our weapons are useless" tactical redeployment got cut down after rolling a 1 on the break test!

My 5

I tried to deal with the Kans but all the Missiles could do was get a weapon destroyed on one of them. The remaining deathkopta was dropped to the ground and everything else failed to do anything to the battlewagons.

Ork 5, Both battlewagons and 1 embarked boy mob escaped my table end though unfortunately for him the dice weren't kind and only recieved 4VP from a total of 9 available (D3x3)! The Kans the attacked and blew up my Exterminator.

The game ended there due to time with 11VP to 7 in my favour. How I wish for Krak Grenades on everything in the future!!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Report Ends ++++++++++++++++++++++++++

As you can see the PDF held its own but had no answer to armour 14. Thankfully it dealt a softening blow to the forces entering the grounds surrounding the main armoury. The remaining members of PCS 1 and 2 and the PDF commander and his retinue were rescued by the Valk and made exit with the surviving armour to be de-briefed.

Due to the Dire circumstances of the situation the Dalea VII PDF have been absorbed into the 171st to continue the fight and bolster our numbers. I expect many things of these troopers.

Our plan is to reinforce the refinery and preparations are in progress for the defense which early reports are suggesting will happen in 5 terran Days (Tues 17th).

Until then, or any other significant updates

Lord General Gunders Anderson out.

Yeah it felt like a PDF force as in you'd generally thing a bit less well equipped but there is so much scope the reality is there could easily be no difference between a PDF and regular Guard force. The beauty of our codex, and army :)

Some cool bits of terrain on the table, but that's an interesting deployment. Pickets to protect the armour as long as the enemy doesn't have tricks up his sleeve!

Thanks, the mission if you have the "battle missions" book is the second Tyranid themed mission where he played as the Tyranid attacker. He basically came on from each of the table edges around my long table edge one at a time as his force was split into 3.

Will go into more detail when I do the full report though.

Fellow Generals, leaders and other VIPs to whom this may concern.

This is a message of utmost importance. The foul Ork menace that has descended on this planet have made a foothold. We will have our work cut out to get them eradicated from this place before they do serious damage to both the facilities and the production of Promethium for the sector.

We arrived Just after the "Break-out at Hilltop Ridge", to find the Orks advancing towards the Main Promethium Plant and storage facility known as "Refinery III". Knowing that this would be a prime target due to the copious amounts of available promethium, I have chosen to reinforce and bolster our defenses there with the first units available to me after planetfall.

What follows is the transcripts from the "Great Stand-off at Refinery III".

The Emperors servant

Lord General Gunders Anderson

171st Cadian Combined Forces.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Report Starts +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Well we'll start with the Mission; It was "Wave Assault" P84 in the battle missions book. My opponent acted as the Tyranid in this force as we felt this deployment and objectives fitted the campaign story line. I Have one long table edge and then he had access to the other 3. There were 4 objectives, 1 x in the centre of the board and 3 x 18" away from each of his table edges. My deployment zone was anywhere up to 12" of one of his table edges. His force got plit into 3 waves and they came on 1 at a time, 1 board edge each and random.

My force included,

Priest, autogun,

Commissar

CCS, - Regimental standard, Autocannon, Grenade Launcher, Astropath (Psychic Shriek and Invisibility), Chimera = ML+HB

Inf Platoon,

PCS - HF 2xF and Krak grenades

2 x INF with Krak grenades and a Flamer in each

SWS - 3xSniper

HWS - 3xAC

20x Conscripts

Veterans - KG, Grenadiers, 2xGL 1xHF Chimera=THF+HHB

Armoured Sentinel with HF

Hellhound with Fire Barrels

Vendetta

LR Exterminator, HHB, 2xSHB, HS, Fire Barrels

Wyvern

Manticore

He had

Wave 1

Warboss in Mega armour

Mek in mega armour with KMB and kustum Force Field and 5xMAN's in a Battlewagon with 2 Rokkits

20xboyz 2xRokkit and Nob with Klaw in a battle wagon with 2 rokkits

Wave 2

20x boyz with 2 Rokkit and a nob with a Klaw

1 Sqn of 2 Kans with Rokkits

Wave 3

Dakkajet with extra gun and fighta ace

Blitza bommer

5 x TL Rokkit Deffkoptas

Following is the deployment of my units only and I left the Vendetta in reserve. I Blobbed the INF Squads up and had them shield the Vets on my left flank with the Priest for morale and preaching nonsense singing hymns. I had the Commissar Babysit inspire the conscripts around the tanks on my right flank. The Snipers with the Freshly painted Master Aircrew Clive Foley who I rolled a separate dice for to see how he did.

The objectives were the pump station in the centre and each of the white storange tanks full of Promethium.

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e301/chrisburnett2010/geekery/20150310_195756.jpg

The Orks were always going to get first turn and the wave that turned up were the Battlewagons. He deployed the Battlewagons on my Left flank moving only 6" to try and maximise shooting from the rokkits, and aimed all at the Vets Chimera and the Sentinel. Unfortunately due to cover and some dice rolling favoured my way he only got a hull point knocked off the chimera and shaking it.

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e301/chrisburnett2010/geekery/20150310_200429.jpg

My reply involved little movement and I held my nerve. The Vets Chimera moved back slightly to take away from danger, and the Priests gang marched towards the Battlewagon containing the HQs and all the Mega Armour.

Orders began by trying to get the AC teams to get something on the furthest battlewagon but they only managed to strip a couple of hull points. The Manticore achieved a hit with Barrage 2 this turn but the 2nd shot flipped off the vehicle. It did cause a Stunned result though. The Flamers targeted the Battlewagon with the nobs in and although they achieved a number of wounds saves were failed.

Next came the Charge on the said Battlewagon and after successfully chanting a Hymn they successfully re-rolled hits with their grenades causing enough damage to be wrecked twice over.3 Guardsmen were lost in the resulting (lucky) explosion and one wound was lost from a Nob. First Blood to me.

Turn 2

Turn 2 started with the Boyz and the Kans in Wave 2 arriving on the long board edge moving only 6" to try and utilise their rokkits.

The nobs got closer to the Priests gang, and the boyz in the remaining battlewagon stayed on board. The Nobs killed 3 more guardsmen, and the battlewagon, both Boyz mobs and the Kans aimed their rokkits at the Sentinel. After the smoke cleared the sentinel stood on 1 remaining hull point and with a shaken result against it.

The nobs then Charged the Guard squad and after passing all saves from overwatch they awaited their turn to strike. The Priest feared the worst and knowing that re-rolling to wound was the only sain option for survival made sure his Hymn was heard.

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e301/chrisburnett2010/geekery/IMG-20150311-WA0011.jpg

Making the most of their numerical advantage this next picture shows what happened after the dice were thrown, and 9 wounds were caused.

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e301/chrisburnett2010/geekery/IMG-20150311-WA0010.jpg

Huzzah! This resulted in 2 dead nobs and 1x on 1 wound. unfortunately he hit very well and hard as expected. This reduced my number to 7, Thank the Emperor for Fearless!!

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e301/chrisburnett2010/geekery/20150310_205318.jpg

And a Full shot of the deployed units at the start of my Turn 2,

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e301/chrisburnett2010/geekery/20150310_205325.jpg

The vendetta arrived straight away and knowing what edge he had attempted to stay well away by hugging the left hand board edge aiming at the Battlewagon. Not much other movement took place. The sentinel backed up slightly and the Hellhound went Flat-out to meet the oncoming Boyz mob.

The Astropath managed to successfully cast invisibility onto the Orks in combat.

Orders started with The HWT ignoring what was being said and then the Snipers were tasked with "Supressive Fire" on the Boyz Mob. 1 sniper managed to get a 6 on the wound roll but Master Aircrew Clive Foley rewarded me for painting him by rolling a precision hit allocating onto a rokkit boy and then getting a 6 to wound getting the sniper fake rend, and by doing so ensure the unit were pinned! Causing him to be living up to his hype from his back story.

Shooting then continued with the Vendetta opening the battlewagon with only 2 Lascannon hits as it never gets all 3. Ever.

The Wyvern then started dropping shells to injure the survivors dropping a vast amount of their number reducing them to 8 models who then ran away. The Manticore once again rolled for 2 Blasts and launched at the Boyz mob getting another hit, and further reduced them by a substantial number. The Kans fell to combined firepower from the AC team, CCS and Chimera and the Exterminator.

The Priest failed to inspire his remaining men or they were too busy to take notice meaning that no wounds were caused to the nobs but they only suffered a further 4 casualties due to only being hit on 6's, meaning 3 men stood thankfully including the Priest.

Ork turn 3

The dakka Jet came on aiming for the CCS Chimera and ended up wrecking it. The Blitza Bommer couldn't fly far enough to be able to drop a bomb this turn so set up for a turn 4 bombing run over the Exterminator. The Deffkoptas came on between the flyers going towards the right- hand refinery, aiming for the Exterminator but failed to do anything due to some shocking dice and cover provided by the Conscripts. The Boyz mobs moved up the table slightly, and with some good rolling found the downed Aquila lander become another objective. The Rokkits tried taking out the Hound but only managed to destroy the Hull mounted HB

The Ensuing Combat phase finally took the last of Father Tuck my Priest and retinue.

My 3,

I started by moving the Vendetta into firing arc of the Dakka Jet, moving the Vets and their Chimera towards the Nobs and the Hound went closer to the boyz mob on the far long table edge next to the Aquila.

The order phase was quite uneventful. Master Aircrew Clive Foley once again caused a Rend to an Ork and the AC team got a hull point removed from the Dakka Jet. Then the Big guns fired, The Manticore scattered off the table, the  Vets inflicted no unsaved wounds on the Warboss mob, and the Wyvern finished off the Boyz heading back to the wreck of their Wagon. The Hound did however wipe out another good portion of the boyz stood on the Aquila though unfortunately they passed their break test. The exterminator took out 1.5 Deffkoptas as the conscripts missed.

Ork 4

The Blitza moved in and Bombed the Conscripts and the Exterminator taking out the Stubber and a hull point and a handful of conscripts, the jet then shot the CCS taking the GL and AC team away, and also the grot gunner in the rear shot the conscripts also. The deffkoptas kept their distance and shot at the Exterminator again and Immobilised it reducing it to 1 hull point. The Nobs moved in towards the Vets Chimera and charged wrecking it and killing 7 of the occupants.

My 4,

I started by going into Hover mode to try and stop the advance of the MAN's with support from the Sentinel that repositioned to use the Flamer, and the Hound Turned and attempted to drive over the Aquila wreckage though immobilised itself, thankfully in range. With some great rolling only 2 nobs died after all this was thrown at them though the Warboss was reduced to 1 wound.

The conscripts moved into a better firing postion and shot at the deathkoptas dropping one. The Exterminator snap-shot the blitza Bommer out of the sky with 1 glance and 2 Pens. Obviously pissed they had been targetted! Whats not to love about a AA Russ!

This is where the Pics dry up. We finished soon after as the Orks had lost most units and had no way of getting me off all mine plus it was getting late.

With this the story has now progressed.

+++++++++++++++++Incoming Transmission++++++++++++++++++++++++

To whom this concerns.

The "Great Stand-off at Refinery III" was a success in repelling the Ork's from the main promethium plant though I felt like we had had it too easy and as if some of their forces had disappeared somewhere due to the reduced numbers expected to attack. No longer had we sent them packing and started to celebrate our achievements we received a distress call from Governor Gorbatrec that his most trusted Aid and Senior Promethium plant operator located in "Refinery I", was being overwhelmed by Ork forces and that his retrieval was of utmost importance. This is due to to the Case he has attached to him at all times and how it contains secret codes and other such important documents that cannot get into enemy hands.

It appears this Ork Warlord has More cunning than your average Ork. We must eradicate him before we have another Ghazghkull on out hands!

Before we can do this though I am Launching a Rescue operation and sending a reactionary force to extract the Governor's aid.

Until then, or any other significant updates

Lord General Gunders Anderson out.

Pain is temporary, Honour is forever

Good write up dude, glad you used the pic of my horrendous mega nob armour saves. Just like my wolf guard terms!!

You forgot to mention that in true ork style, after you blasted my dakka jet out of the sky, the wreckage scattered back on top of my deff koptas killing one. hahaha.

Revenge will by mine next week!
