Iron Hands Fanatic
Well, its fair to say that like many others, I really liked the look of the models FW are developing for the Imperial Army, and the Solar Auxilia have really got me thinking about the relations between the Imperial Army & the Legiones Astartes. This lead me to thinking about how Legion auxiliary forces might work, and with Prospero Spireguard confirmed (as far as I'm aware?) for Inferno, I've started to develop some stuff for the Iron Tenth. We all ready know that the Iron Hands have 'Chainveil' auxilliaries - Imperial Army units which have performed so admirably that they have been attached to the Xth Legion - interesting, considering the antagonism that has been shown between the Imperial Army & the Iron Hands. What I'll be doing is constructing a basic Army List for the Iron Hands Auxiliaries, with unit descriptions, concept art & basic rules. The list will be comprised of 3 separate divisions combined into a single Army List: * - 'Chainveil' Imperial Army units * - Servitor / Automata units * - Medusan units - drawn from the warriors of the Clans from which the X Legion recruits So, without further ado: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Images/ProductCategories/FastAttack.jpgFast Attack Medusan Clanguard: Your basic Medusan warriors: they are FA because of the compulsory rhino transports, but a HQ choice allows you to take them as troops (& the rhinos become optional). WS: 4 BS: 3 S: 3 T: 3 W: 1 I: 3 A: 1 Ld: 8 Unit Composition: 9 Medusan Clanguard, 1 Warbringer - may take 1-3 squads per FA slot Wargear: Carapace Armour, Frag & Krak Grenades, Medusan Warblade, Bolt Carbine Medusan Warblade: Might just make it a Power Axe, or possibly a watered down version - allows you to make opponent re-roll armour save? Bolt Carbine: Range: 18" Strength: 4 AP: 5 Type: Assault 1 Options: *Warbringer can take Power Fist, Volkite Serpenta / Plasma Pistol *Can take Nuncio-Vox *Must take Rhino APC Special Rules: *Medusan Blood (Stubborn + can never go to ground voluntarily) Medusan Warblade: Bolt Carbine: [effectively a modded Umbra Bolt Pistol] These guys are a great opportunity to experiment with the Medusans' mix of tribal / nomadic society & technological aptitude, as descendant from Mechanicum colonists - I'll probably do a couple more Clanguard (male & female), and then move onto a similar unit: a Special Weapon equipped alternative (Elites) , using weapon frames reminiscent to those from Aliens Anyhow, tell me what you think Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292949-x-legion-auxilia-clanguard-update-clanguard-no-2/ Share on other sites
Knight of the Raven
I like the drawings and rules. As for the downgraded power axe, maybe just remove the strength bonus? Or keep it but make the axe AP3? BassWave
Hnnnnggngnnn... Must resist urge of converting models using this idea. I do know where to get colonial marine pulse rifles for guardsmen too... DAMN YOU! Seriously though, I'm loving what I'm seeing so far. Keep it up! sitnam
IHF, you come up with some of the best ideas around here. You might know the answer to this, but was the idea of the chainveil auxilaries invented by Kyme in the story Feat of Iron? Keep it up! Hahaha, I exist only to serve - and if that means creating a hook for Imperial Guard players to be drawn into the cold, metallic embrace of the X Legion, then what's the harm? :P Oh, and if you like smartgun harnesses combined with servo-arms, I think you're gonna like these special weapon guys IHF, you come up with some of the best ideas around here. Thanks, and Feat of Iron is actually the only time the Chainveil are mentioned - although I'm disinclined to use that story's content as canon, the Chainveil are an interesting idea that I wanted to expand upon - they'll make a nice contrast to the muscle-bound, tattooed ranks of the Medusans Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292949-x-legion-auxilia-clanguard-update-clanguard-no-2/#findComment-3729501 Share on other sites
sitnam
Feat of Iron was a mixed bag for me; it had some neat elements and some bad elements. The Chainveil were one the neat ones. I thought Massacre mentioned them but I realized I may be remembering it from your big thread you have lol Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292949-x-legion-auxilia-clanguard-update-clanguard-no-2/#findComment-3729568 Share on other sites
Beta galactosidase
There are chainveil in Little Horus, alongside Iron Hands. I'm sure the chainveil are meant to be local to the planet, though. Millicant
Looks really neat! Awesome drawing too. That being said, I have to point out that stubborn is a ridiculously rare and powerful rule in 30k. I would be extremely skeptical of humans having it when almost no astartes do, except at a significant points premium. SillyDreadnought
I'd give them a Vexilla-esque option instead of Stubborn. A leadership reroll is generally better than bypassing modifiers entirely. A leadership reroll is generally better than bypassing modifiers entirely. I can see what you mean - I've been considering 2 options to exchange Stubborn with for Medusan Blood: * Just swap it for Counter-Attack [as in, fighting is part of the everyday life of surviving on Medusa, and if you can't seize the initiative from an attacker, you'd be dead already] * Make them auto-pass Morale checks for casualties [death holds no fear for them] Also, with the nature of the 3 aspects of the Army, the plan is for a number of units to give different buffs to units with Medusan Blood: *There will be an Apothecary-style 1-5 model Elites unit, which will have the same effect as a Vexilla to any Medusan Blood unit they join *One HQ choice [currently 'Iron Sage' - the non-Astartes equivalent of an Iron Father] will give Stubborn to Medusan Blood units within a certain radius and make Clanguard a troops selection as above *One HQ choice - which will be an Iron Hands Legionary [maybe xxxx-Marshal] will allow all Medusan Blood units within a [wider] radius to use his Ld value Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292949-x-legion-auxilia-clanguard-update-clanguard-no-2/#findComment-3730602 Share on other sites
