Imperial Knight affiliated with the Artifactors Chapter

Recommended Posts

Hello!

Decided to add a Imperial Knight to my Space Marine army, using the very same colours as my custom made chapter; the Artifactors. This means, gold and green all around!

But, before we get to that part, we need to assemble and paint this thing. It'll be the largest model I have ever painted or assembled for that matter, so it'll be quite the interesting an fun experience! I really enjoy the model with all the detail and options - can't wait to get some green and gold going!

So, how did the Knight come to serve in the Artifactors? Well, I'll be sure to think of something that makes sense!

Getting the metal painted

Doing this piece by piece, so the armour plates will be painted and glued on in a later stage.

Ok, so the planet where the knight served was attacked by tyranids. The artifactors were dispatched to help fend off the invasion. Sadly by the time they reached there it ceased to be a mission to defend the planet but became a mission to extract as many valuable resources before exterminatus. The knight was valiantly fighting back the tyranid horde at a critical point of extraction. The defenders were out manned and losing ground fast when the artifactors swooped in heroically to secure the site, where they both fought side by side with the knight until every last key personal and valuable asset was removed. Moments before being overrun the artifactors helped extract the knight.

Exterminatus commences moments later. Now with out a planet and only the most precious of personal and material surviving the knight no longer has a house to serve. So the few remnants of the house now travel with the artifactors to pay back the debt they feel is owed to the space marine chapter that spared them the fate of their planet.

Just a suggestion of how a knight might come to work side by side with marines. Of course you could replace Nids with necrons or any other serious xenos threat would suit your needs or fit in your chapters fluff.

First off @IamJacksUnserName, that sounds really good. That idea works well, might borrow it with a few adjustments. Thanks. :)

@Brother Dallo - The Artifactors are a relic hunting chapter wishing to discover and retrieve artifacts from the Age of Technology or when the Emperor walked the earth. They believe that this kind of technology is needed to survive the End of Days.

Eyes!

Getting some green in there, the model is finally starting to look like something fit for the Artifactors, but still got some ways to go!

And some gold as well! This is a darker gold which I like to use for any machine parts. For decorations I'll use a more controlled wash technique to keep the decorative gold more shiny. (The golden light on the leg is because of my lamp, it's not painted that way. ;))

And a picture of the Reaper Chainsword. Really enjoying the way the metallics look. Got to love Nuln Oil wash over silver! No highlights on the green as of yet.

And a beauty shot of the Imperial Knight undergoing the transformation from former Imperial Knight to a Knight affiliated to the Artifactors. Time to weld on the new, green armourplates!

@Skrundle87 - Thanks! I like darker green as well, it looks slightly.. hmm "regal"? :) Especially with a golden colour as a companion colour.

Almost done! The Lhamian medium (matte varnish) used to seal the transfers managed to miscolour the shoulderpads a bit (not sure if I can avoid that somehow), but other than that I'm really happy with it. The finished version of the Knight will be available in my Artifactors thread in the Hall of Honour (Link in my signature).
