Knights of House Cydonia, Taghmata Omnissiah and Skitarii

As i'm gradually working on the skitarii infantry i've also assembled some promethium relay pipes, though i've not yet decided the scheme they will be in. My manufactora ruins will be heavily scuffed red over silver on the outside over grimy metal interiors as i've shown with the bit the wounded knight pilot noble is sheltering behind, but as the relay pipes can be sat to hook up with the lower vents on many of the manufactorum walls i'm not sure i want scuffed red paint on pipes up against scuffed red paint walls so might do those in rusty or grimy metal, other than the control station which must be red to follow the principle of housings and armour and coverings for machines is red.

But i've got some pics to show of something else, though it's only had a little paint on it so far.

I used the end of a bit of necron rod to give the chapel-shaped void a bit of function. It works fairly well and i am surprised i've not seen others do it before.

Oh, dangit! Why did I glue that together already? That looks so cool!

Jeff, maybe you could carefully drill it out from the underside and then slide the rod in from underneath and reseal it? Just make sure you measure where to drill carefully as it's not quite in the centre!

Got most of the paint done, though i'm trying to decide on what colour to paint the wires connecting the floating servo skull to the small data cathedral or to leave them silver.

I'm thinking of a name for the C.A.T. Considering the clear inspiration for it i'm thinking maybe J-One-Psi

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f250/supreme_martian_overlord/DSCF0003%202.jpg

I'm a big fan of black smooth cables and silver ribbed cables. Dunno why but that just makes sense to me and usually offers little areas of contrast. But, I'd match up whatever you normally do on the rest of your army.

I've done black gloss cables on a number of pieces, but in this case as it's a tangle of wires over wires black will look a bit odd and swallow texture unless strongly highlighted and that wouldn't suit the very gritty very knocked about weathering i've done on the C.A.T. (fond memories as a Stealer player in Space Hulk of them being dropped by slain terminators, off careening down corridors... it's been a favourite mission across all the editions) so i'm going with dark reaper with black wash. It's nearly done now, but i want to get some rust from the rusty plating and grills it's moving over on the tracks and so might get around to trying a rust-orange weathering powder sample a friend gave me.

Some WIP pics to show where the Arch-Magos on Abeyant is at.

I decided the armour on the shoulders chipped red paint would be distinct enough from the robes, but haven't decided whether to extend it to the chest or not.

The Will Rees style head just comes up so well!

I've not posted much lately not because i've not been painting, but because i've been too pusy doing so to take pics and post them. So here's some quick snaps of just some of my current projects.

I'm still working on the leaders of each squads, and have to do basing and decals, but here is my first Vanguard unit, with 3 plasma calivers

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f250/supreme_martian_overlord/DSCF0002_3.jpg

Next up is the Rangers, there's 3 Arquebus just off camera

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f250/supreme_martian_overlord/DSCF0004_4.jpg

2nd squad of Vanguard have 3 arc rifles

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f250/supreme_martian_overlord/DSCF0007_4.jpg

I have of course got a plastic Magos Dominus underway, but a lot more has been done on the Blackstone Fortress

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f250/supreme_martian_overlord/DSCF0008_2.jpg

Here's the top half of the Blackstone, yet to ink down the brightness of the underside lights yet.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f250/supreme_martian_overlord/DSCF0012_1.jpg

The 1st Onager is most of the way magnetised for weapon options and removing of weapons when destroyed, but there's still some options to do yet and i'm still puzzling out what to do about the smoke launchers etc. Once i've finished the magnets on the first i'll start building the second and get them finished together i think. Also note some ash from the engine-oil-scent incense, the smell when burnt is a bit too mild, so i might try upping the strength or maybe even making mechanicus scented candles.

The other two servitors of my mechanicum techpriest auxilia and Necromunda Explorators, along with some undercoated inquisition retinue that make great mechanicus civilians for narrative games, as well as some really old rarities too.

Speaking of old rarities, the techpriest that will be in my Mechanicum Techpriest Auxilia, the storm bolter counting as a different weapon. This will also be used in my Necromunda Explorators.

Thanks Kurama, i'm prioritising the Blackstone Fortress a bit as i hopefully will very very soon be starting a campaign for some friends made up of battles across a range of games, Battlefleet Gothic, Kill Team 40k, 40k in 40 minutes, Zone Mortalis, standard 40k (possibly games in more than one edition!), Space Hulk, possibly Lost Patrol, potentially modified Necromunda and perhaps even a bout of Epic or two.

Narratively the plot is that at the end of the Shield of Baal campaign events several factions learn an inactive Blackstone Fortress has mysteriously survived the events of the 12th black crusade and is located in the path of Hive Fleet Leviathan not far from Cryptus and Baal. A variety of factions want control over it, the Mechanicus of course consider it theirs especially as it had originally been claimed by the Binaric Saint Saint Hoagland before being lost, there's nearby post-imperial worlds that have been cut off by warpstorms for tens of thousands of years who now value their independence and want it's might to keep it or use as a bargaining chip to get a Knight-world style independence agreement, there's the Blood Angels chapter who see it as perhaps key to stopping Hive Fleet Leviathan from devouring Baal but can only spare a small amount of their force to try and secure it and there's the Eldar trying to twist the events towards the fates that suit them best. With of course the ever present threat of the Tyranids encroaching.

Mechanically we'll have a system map and use a small amount of mighty empires and planetary empires tiles to cover battles on each world. Some systems will be strategically useful and others will have key items, or clues to locations of items, required to try and activate the fortress or that matter to individual factions. To get to fight on worlds people will need to get an army to that world in a Battlefleet Gothic game. On worlds players can choose to fight using any GW game system that covers their factions that they would like to and fits the tiles they are fighting over, so if they'd like a huge 40k game or a zone mortalis game or even a game of Epic that's up to them to decide. This will let people play a variety of beloved games at a variety of scales with whatever collections they own.

There will of course also be some specific plot-based games. The area of red stars and nubula around Baal has been visited by a lot of space hulks full of Genestealers and we've seen that the Cryptus system had at least Two major Genestealer Cult infestations so any derelict space stations and ships could well be full of Genestealers, with a variety of games that could be played to cover that depending on people's factions (i can dig out the rules for Eldar in Tyranid Attack from one of my earliest White Dwarfs, there's Deathwatch Overkill for Scions Tempestus, Space Hulk and Zone Mortalis etc) and in such any non-aligned player can take the role of Genestealers or any other story-specific force.

Speaking of aligning, players will be free to make any alliances they wish, or to break them, in order to try and achieve their goals. They can form factions, betray allies, whatever fits their conscience and their personal interpretation of their army (as we are all also roleplayers i expect a lot of playing in-character).

Should be fun.

So a quick update before i get back to work.

My spacemat from Corsec Engineering just arrived. So here is the battlefield the Battlefleet Gothic portion of the campaign will be fought over, The Red Scar...

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f250/supreme_martian_overlord/WP_20160427_001.jpg

Followed by a quick snap of one of my WIP magnetized Mechanicus ships

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f250/supreme_martian_overlord/WP_20160427_008.jpg

I've also bought some nice glass display cases, and started moving some of my current favourite pieces into them.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f250/supreme_martian_overlord/WP_20160421_003.jpg

But there is of course much more to follow (and to finish) when time permits.

I have something to show :)

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x283/Lord_Of_Bats/DSCF0003.jpg

Blackstone VII, cut off by tremendous warpstorms inside the Red Scar and so survived the self-destruct signal from the end of the 12th crusade that destroyed those Blackstones not under Abbaddon's control.

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x283/Lord_Of_Bats/DSCF0010.jpg

Here you can see it in a second configuration, thanks to the nice magnets within.

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x283/Lord_Of_Bats/DSCF0015%205.jpg

Activated Blackstone Fortress. One of the most terrifying things in the entire 40k universe...

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x283/Lord_Of_Bats/DSCF0016%205.jpg

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x283/Lord_Of_Bats/DSCF0017%205.jpg

And what's this?

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x283/Lord_Of_Bats/DSCF0019%205.jpg

It seems the claiming of the Blackstone millennia ago was not fully completed, some of it's original colours remain, an ominous silver still shining despite the uncounted aeons.

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x283/Lord_Of_Bats/DSCF0028%203.jpg

While showing off some of my BFG work, because many of the players in the campaign don't own their own fleets and will need to borrow some ships i'm finally getting back around after all these years to the Imperial Navy ships that came in the box, they'd been blu-tacked together till now, so.

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x283/Lord_Of_Bats/DSCF0033.jpg

Getting the magnets into the ram/nova cannon are a pain and they spill out the side slightly but hold well enough and should be fine once paint is on. The only critical pieces for cruiser types not magnetized are the antenna, i'll put one together with the turrets instead, as only 2 cruiser designs use those and the other 2 from the box will also have antenna.
