Knights of House Cydonia, Taghmata Omnissiah and Skitarii

Just because a Machine Spirit exists in a world of code on the inside of machines that does not mean i's not dangerous to those who cross into it's domain or live between the worlds....

The mightier of Magi will bind powerful and wild spirits into machines of great import to protect them, and the Sacristans of House Cydonia are well versed in sacred rituals and murkier secrets long forgotten by others or usually kept well away from the Sacristans of other Knightly Houses. So a fallen knight of House Cydonia is no easy pickings for the minions of the ruinous powers.

Wielding a knife-like subroutine of potentially lethal code that can cause weapons or cybernetics to explode or cease functioning, and with the authority-code of the original Magus who bound it to protect the Knight long lost to time, this belligerent machine spirit will require either careful supplication, appeasement or the dominant will of a potent Magus to undo the Geas before anyone may interact with the lost throne mechanicum safely.

Held tauntingly by the machine spirit are the access key-codes required to safely disengage the miu's from the long-dead pilot enabling the throne mechanicum to safely be fully shut down and transported. The noospheric witch-sight of Magi and Heretek alike rendering them in simple easily-understood symbolism.

The base will of course be rusted metal mesh and likely pipes girders and detritus.

The machine spirit is a spirit host from the Mortarch kit, the keys are from the Mortis Engine, cut from the body used for the neuromatrix psyker.

I'll have to come up with some necromunda rules for the protective machine spirit. It's deadly code-weapon means it can attack anyone, passing through solid objects without impediment, but it's nature means it would only be vulnerable to those versed in the ways of the machine-spirit-world (like requiring magical weapons in warhammer) and it may not manifest far from the noospheric emitters of the machine which it is bound to.

To be fair to other players of course other gangs will need such models, so i'll make some Hereteks they can hire for the purpose which should also give me an opportunity for some fun miniatures. I have plans for one already as a counts-as wyrd.

Trying to get a better pic my brother decided to illuminate the miniature with a torch, this is the result.

Ordered my Knight Styrix today, and the limited ed. copy of heresy rules vol 4. Conquest.
The Pound to AUD conversion rate is most unkind right now though, so the Vorax, Secutors, Magos Dominus and Triaros I all want let alone the Knight Mageara are all going to have to wait till next year sometime.

I'll return to work on my Errant at the same time as i work on the Styrix.

Sucks about the money, but I'm excited to see the Styrix anyway. Should be amazing. I guess you'll just have to take it slow and lavish attention on it. :D

:biggrin.:

I'll definitely take as long or longer as my first Knight. For one thing in a discussion on Warseer i noticed someone pointed out that the 'shell' plates appear to slide over one another as the hatch, so i'll have to keep that in mind when i plan the paint scuffing.

You know, I wondered about that when I first saw it. Yeah, could do some striations to show the wear. OR... You could actually cut the plates apart and rebuild them with articulation so you can actually open the cockpit. :D I mean... If you're bored... And insane...

I know my current limits of skill, and i'm certainly not up to that task yet. But anyone who managed it would be very cool indeed.

Loving your knights. I'm a sucker for a clean maroon/red colour scheme, so cheers to you sir.

First reaction when I saw the thread title was this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MGLhuOMPiU

I will have to look up that Anime.

Thanks for the praise. My Knight Errant will be more scuffed with a little damage though because of a far greater tendency to engage in assault and necessity of shorter range combat as well as the single-minded enraged nature of the Knights ghosts rage and more likely to take pride in it's scars. I'm thinking of possible ways of making the Styrix look more ancient but being so sacred it also will be more maintained too so i may go the reverse and make it even more frequently re-painted... and what might speak more about the nature of New Ares than having such an ancient Knight form bequeathed to those houses closest to the Mechanicum (or those they most were trying to control..) at the time of the Great Crusade and one of which many have whispered ominous things about, looking freshly manufactured...

So far i have done most of my work to music, including the Glitch Mob especially the track Animus Vox (good for sparking up focus before settling down to work) as well as Bad Wings, Can't Kill Us and We Can Make the World Stop, the Tangerine Dream albums Poland (especially the Tangent tracks with Rare Bird being a favourite) and Ricochet. I did some of the work on the Castellax Battle Automata to Doctor Steel's song Build The Robots and a few other of his tracks (like Planet X Marks the Spot and 12,000 Miles Through Space) but the vast majority of the time especially when working on the Knight it has been while listening to this:

I honestly thought that was what you were going for with the house name.  Not that anime in general tends to get well received by 40k fans, but that particular one is grimdark enough to rival the 40k universe (Made better by the fact that they don't really wallow in how much their life sucks).

As for your work - I love it, and you've inspired me to be more creative with my own Admech forces!  Keep us fellow adherents of the Machine Spirit updated!

I'll keep updating, things are progressing slower as i'm spending time with family currently but i'm still slowly working on the Abeyant and some other projects. (been working on the chipped red paint of the upper parts of the Abeyant and starting on controls and screens). I have the Styrix and the Heresy book IV ordered which i'm super excited about and some bits for some cool kitbash ideas coming too. I have a great idea to show the ritual approach of House Cydonia and am extremely eager to see if it will work.

Be sure to show us all your own work too :)

Hey thanks for sharing this man!

Perfect music for working late night. Love the fat and chunky analog synth sounds - I thought it was Tangerine Dream at first.

I checked out the youtube channel trying to find out more info to see if this was a cross over / side project.   If you know anything please shoot me a pm or post here!

Anyway don't want to derail this thread but just wanted to say a huge thanks totally digging it!

I wish i knew more myself, i'd like to buy it on a cd or dvd.

I was in fact sitting late at night, around 1AM, working on the very early stages of my Knight, and as the tv was uninteresting and i wanted something appropriate running in the background i turned my xbox on and opened the xbox youtube app and searched for Cydonia and amongst the expected videos of Richard Hoagland lectures and coast-to-coast audio talking about the pyramids and face and of course the song by Muse was this video and so i clicked on it. As if it was sitting there waiting to be found for just that obscure purpose. All rather synchronous and very apt for the superstitious/magical-thinking of the mechanicus especially for the ideas i was building for my House.

Yeah I went thru the youtube playlist and found 1 live performance from '09 - they are called  'DA' - but  try googling DA Music...DA Band etc.  :huh.:   Not exactly SEO friendly.

Anyways  great find I even dig the retro visuals with the - cool  Drone / Shoegazer / Space Rock  tunes. Reminded me of a lot of stuff I listened to in college that I had to dig up again.

I did spot a Vimeo profile too thanks to google (EDIT: Though the link seems to not post properly on this forum just googling "vimeo DA cydonia pyramids of mars" should get you there). That might be the best way to contact them.

As for Space Rock i've been recently getting into Les Rockets who seem to cover more genres of music than i have fingers and to whom Daft Punk appear to owe a great deal.

Time at last for more pictures!

I'm gradually working on the abeyant, still with lot's to do, but here is where the next parts are currently.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f250/supreme_martian_overlord/PICT0243.jpg

The gold still needs it's highlights, the scuffed paint look just works far too well on this model not to use it, so i guess the Arch-Magos must find the spirits of the abeyant sated more with regular cleaning that repainting.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f250/supreme_martian_overlord/PICT0245.jpg

My brothers camera is as you can see much better, though the closeup of the middle panel i still managed to get blurry so won't bother posting.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f250/supreme_martian_overlord/PICT0246.jpg

I've only got the red of one control panel side done so far

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f250/supreme_martian_overlord/PICT0247.jpg

I'll have to try and get a better pic of the screens with less reflection off the gloss, i went for a fairly subtle look of green lines on a green screen. Hopefully it works.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f250/supreme_martian_overlord/PICT0250.jpg

And now for something a little wilder.
Ever since reading Graham McNeil's Knights of the Imperium i knew i had to find some way to depict one of the Consorts of my Knights on the battlefield, and.. rumours about the Sister of Cydonia Assassin aside, i knew i needed something that showed the arrogance, the ritualisation of battle and the strange amalgum of culture that my House Cydonia represent.

So one of my objectives, one to sit in my own side of the board, is an observer watching the battle the way a noble watched the tilting of jousting knights at a tourney of old who the knights may be competing for the favour of... and while some of my Knight pilots are women and so some consorts will be men i decided i wanted the watching consort to be a woman, only this is no naive human noble-born medieval waif stereotype but something altogether more fitting for House Cydonia of New Ares...

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f250/supreme_martian_overlord/PICT0241.jpg

I had intended a similar but different and more complex build planned for her head but spied the finecast figure on sale and had to use it.
I had thought of cutting down or away the collar but with this head i think it works as-is.
The goblet won't be for wine though, i'll explain it's ritual significance once i have more of the objective with it's context for her to show.
Unlike the Knights whose augmentation is specifically tied in to their piloting and combat roles within their machines she has more obvious augmentation to add reinforcement to her display of status to those less well versed in the particular New Ares strains of the Cult Omnissiah, and as a way of making herself more attractive to the holy knights who are battling for her attention.

Necromunda has a large Mechanicus presence, all Hive Worlds do as they are after Forgeworlds the 2nd largest hubs of manufacture in the imperium. And teams of Explorators descend to sift and scrounge in the dangerous depths for fragments of archaeotech and data fragments dating back to the time of the hive worlds founding. But with less authority comes less supervision, so the underhive becomes a place for those who wish to hide scrutinous eyes and sacred sanction. The gangs who battle for territory in the underhive have constant need of technical expertise, whether it's skilled medical treatment, cybernetic limb replacements and augmentations, or the codebreaking required to access data-crypts and noospheric locks in order to access entire areas of underhive as well as open the vaults wherein ancient archaeotech hoards may be found. Whether an adept fled their station or someone illicetly taught sacred knowledge a Heretek can always be found for the right price in the Necromundan underhive.

The R.Alpha.T. pattern cyber-familiar is a common form on many worlds where rodent bio-material abounds, and amongst the less restrictive sects, the less humanocentric sub-cults, those who act in flagrant defiance of the Cult of the Pure Form and those who need to ensure the allegience is made clear to allies it is not rare while uncommon to see an R.Alpha.T. dressed in robes like a miniature tech-priest. However this entity is not acting alongside Adept or Magi but instead shows itself to have knowledge well beyond it's original function.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f250/supreme_martian_overlord/PICT0258.jpg

A clear case of Hereticus TransGnosis Minoris this may have occured through a psychic consciousness transference from a psyker adept who was missed by black fleet or cull or by doctrinally forbidden use of MIU upload technology, still the small neural architecture of the cyber-familiar should have resulted in failure, so perhaps only portions of consciousness and knowledge was sucessfully transferred. This entity, known amongst the underhivers in their peculiar parlance as Aratis Mechanicus, is seen accompanied by crude non-standard (and often mutant) augmented giant rats and appears to function similarly to those commonly called 'beastmaster wyrds', using the augmented rats for intelligence gathering and combat.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f250/supreme_martian_overlord/PICT0261.jpg

However some hereteks are worse than others, involving the ruinous powers. And some betrayers of the Dark Mechanicum were once members of loyal forces and sects.

The Explorator Team from the Taghmata Hoagland and House Cydonia are going to find a most distressing adversary in a 'Doc' working in the underhive who bears disturbing resemblance to a dark part of the history of the two worlds... the traitor sometimes referred to as the Anti-Hoagland, a Magos Biologis who during the Heresy temporarily seized control of Forgeworld St Hoagland using falsified news of the death of The Hoagland, leaving The Hoagland, the true leader of Forgeworld St Hoagland and leading the forces of Taghmata Hoagland during the Scouring left as The Hoagland In Absentia till loyal forces of House Cydonia were able to depose the pretender through a combination of surgical strikes masterful data-warfare, the machiavelian strategies of the Conclave of Consorts and it is rumoured an unprecedented deployment of the Cydonian Assassins.

(limbs to be added later as some of these parts are just sitting till painting starts for access but i wanted to post pics before i start painting)

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f250/supreme_martian_overlord/PICT0269.jpg

Is this the Anti-Hoagland, somehow having escaped death through a proxy-body and reduced to a minor hireling in hiding millennia later in the Necromundan underhive? Is he using that role as a front to build some dread scheme to overthrow the Hives? Or is the resemblance some trick of the fickle ruinous powers? Should gangs who hire this herretek be wary of their replacement limbs and synth-muscle grafts? Should they really hire him to unlock data-crypts and tech-vaults for them to plunder? Clearly the Explorators will want to take this fiend down as a priority target, and that alone may make him useful, and dangerous.

(the arms will be the standard haemonculus ones though i am looking at replacing the gun)

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f250/supreme_martian_overlord/PICT0278.jpg

So there we have some Heretek Hired Guns for opponents in my necromunda games to use to to deal with the machine spirit i made and any other threats that only those with the knowledge of the mechanicus are equipped to handle.

And finally something arrived at the door this morning.

As i'm super busy at the moment progress on it will be slow, but i am extremely excited to start on it. The one and only problem identified thus far is that it didn't come with any decals, so i am going to have to source a standard knight decal sheet to give it the House Cydonia emblem and markings.

I've done some more work, thanks to a cool rainy day, on my painting. First up, the Abeyant panels.

And as i need to paint it as i assemble it the Heretek 'Doc' fallen to the ruinous powers has had some work done (The red is still at an early stage)

I'm very happy with how all this is turning out. :)

Some excellent updates, mate! I have to say I am not a huge fan of the FW AdMech "DJ booth", but your paintjob is still very nice! And that's a killer idea for a Heretek! Extra kudos for the excellent choice of head! I am looking forward to seeing the finished model!

Thanks! :)
Though i'm not intending much change on the Hereteks arms. I've removed the gun and am going to see if an old lead gun from my brothers ancient bits box will be too heavy for the mini, if it is i'll have to figure out something else. I like the idea of a graviton pistol as a possible second option it'd be just the nasty thing a heretek looking for subjects for experiments would use to collect specimens.

As for the Abeyant, well i really like the idea of a mobile pulpit crossed with a command-centre myself but certainly it's not everyone's cup of tea. I've glued the panels on so i'll get more pics soon, i'll leave the additional tendrils till after i've started basing and am still considering the cyber-occularum as the mold slip on the sides of the metal tendrils are super-annoying, so it will be on to work on painting the Arch-Magos soon :)
