So I was asked to do up a small tutorial on how I have been doing my camouflage (Multi Cam). This is only my second tutorial I have ever done so please bear with me.

Colours used: GW-Nurgling Green, GW-Karack stone, VMA-Cam light green, VMA-Olive green, VGC-Charred brown, GW-Kommando khaki with white scar mix.

So before we get onto the stages, just a slight tip when doing a cam pattern. Please use a brush you no longer like, but still has a relatively nice tip, but if it has some fly away bristles that works out perfect as well.

I found that when working with very small models, trying to apply a squiggly line didn't always work out very well. It would either be to thick, look like a large blob or would dry to thin to the point that you would no longer be able to make out the colours. To mitigate all this, I don't really thin down my paints and when applying the paint simply dab small dots into the shape that I want the line to be (this is where the frayed brush works fairly well) it helps to bring in a even more random texture to the pattern.

So enough of me rambling and on to the stages.

Step 1:

Based in Nurgling green then given a full body wash of Athonian Camoshade, followed by laying down a rough pattern in Karak stone. For the multi cam I worked up from light to dark then back to light again. One thing to keep in mind is don't cover up the majority of the base colour with your first layer of cam, remember that you may have 3 or 4 more colours to lay and that base will be non existent anymore or it will look cluttered.

Step 2:

Next came VMA olive green, While looking at pictures I noticed that multi cam seems to only go in a horizontal pattern for the most part, again just dabbing small dots unto one another. Quick point the harder you dot your brush the larger or thicker your dot or line there after, mix between hard and soft to make a irregular pattern.

Step 3:

Next came VGC Charred Brown. Same as step 2 however try not to cover your work from step 2, they can connect but don't cover. This cam pattern looks like the darker colours flow with one another rather than try and dominate.

Step 4:

Going back to light colours. VMA Cam light green. Again flow with the two darker colours just to break up any uniformity.

Step 5:

Lastly comes the Kommando Khaki and white scar mix, roughly 75% to 25% Kommando to white. This was the only colour that I found was required to be able to cover everything else that has already been laid down. It helped to break up any unwanted joins, straight lines or mistakes. However I found that this one needed to be laid on very lightly. To hard and the bright colour just looks odd or makes it looked like you sneezed and didn't care to correct your mistake. It is also the only pattern that goes both horizontal and vertical.

And that's it. Hopefully this helps anyone that was interested. I tried to make it as detailed as I could. If anything the main thing to remember is to make small joining dots to form the pattern and to not go overboard, run out of room and just make it look cluttered.

If I missed anything, please let me know and I will try and get back to you.

I created my Multicam effect by stippling, and I can now do it with an airbrush, I feel that If I really wanted to do it right I could adapt your method to layer the spots. You've done an amazing job, considering that multicam is a very complex camo pattern. It's a six color pattern, with a a background that fades from green to brown and back, and foreground objects that are varying shades of green and brown. You've captured it brilliantly. Too much work for me though.

Vow is now finished, but if we go off of the day old saying of the devil is in the details, which I have stated before in a different thread, I would never finish.

Here some more pictures of the squad, and maybe at a latter date I will be doing some corrects to things I'm not to happy with.

I know there are no rules for dogs in a guard list, but since I rarely ever play and quite frankly who doesn't love K9 teams, just had to put this fantastic model in with the squad.

Any comments or critiques appreciated.

Alright here we go again. Either I am about to do something really dumb or the Emperor will smile down upon me. I plan on entering the ETL now knowing full well that I leave for the field again on the 18th, this being said I will be trying to complete this entry before then.

Not a large vow by any means, but points are points and the Lord Commissar demands that the Armies assemble.

Oh on a side note I completely forgot to upload that size comparison shot of the Anvil Industries minis and the FW Elysian, so here it is now.

+++ Update +++

Here is where I am  sitting thus far. Still need to get to the battle damage and possibly some transfers, along with the camo netting and lastly the base. But in the long run it looks like I will get this finished by my own deadline.

Also if I could ask the members of the barracks for their opinion. Do you think that the grav chute ports should have a slight blue glow to them? or just be heat damaged and sooty? As well as the melta, I think the only time I have ever seen the colour of a melta weapon was in the Space Marine game and it was red, should the melta have a red hue to it as if it is warming up? or nothing at?

Thanks in advance and as always C&C is always appreciated.

Edit- Reloaded pictures (hopefully)

I think for the grav shoots I would go with some type of damage, not sure about soot, but make it look like energy has been forced out.. kinda have dented paint work around the exaust and on parts of the senternal that would be in the 'Blast zone'..

But I would keep away from soot, as its not using rockets or anything... its Gravity stuff..

I will officially state that my first Vow is complete.
In the end I stuck to the basics, and as Uveron comented left out the glow for the grav chutes. Here are some pictures of the finished Sentinel.

Time and work depending I hope to be able to do a few more vows that are worth more points, and more importantly to clear off my desk of unpainted resin.

C&C always welcome
