Demon 2 - Sammy dead, command squad dead, Dreadnaught alive but nearly dead, and all his heavy hitters are still alive. Ouch. Just so we're clear the beasts of nurgle if you have the charge get (1)+1+d6 attacks, so if have 5 and you roll average (getting a 4)they have 30 attacks per turn and they have 4 wounds each. Damn.... that my friends is a tarpit that bites back. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FZfkbGGx2yg/U8SE-a12kJI/AAAAAAAABw0/7b8GzMvLQB8/s1600/da3b.gif http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dVilaDKexNA/U8SE-ZTDZvI/AAAAAAAABww/JMyHlptGQKc/s1600/da3c.gif http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lM3KtArWL1I/U8SE-WJOXcI/AAAAAAAABw4/Zn0zjP13gE8/s1600/da3a.gif Dark Angels 3 - With the demon Asag locked in combat with the contemptor Dread, all three typhoons bring ordinance to bear on the demon prince resulting in a single wound. With the last turns arrival of plaugebearers and nurglings deepstriking into the fray, the whirlwind unleashes a barrage wiping out more than half the squad. Trying to escape the ministrations of the beasts the ravenwing squad hit and runs to a point behind the canyon wall. Janus Arpegion that ancient warrior, falls, wrecked by the Demon Prince Asag. The second ravenwing squad hit and runs behind the drake hoping the greater demon can be slowed by the ruins. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fG1egufmLJk/U8SE_N9NVlI/AAAAAAAABxg/b3yUgpxhTKk/s1600/de3a.gif http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CelBn2MvhsA/U8SE_vV4wsI/AAAAAAAABxQ/CdZ7x86VPEA/s1600/de3c.gif http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BYhq58EDJKM/U8SE_bdnjRI/AAAAAAAABxc/kuA3qqfJHcw/s1600/de3b.gif http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4jFlnUEMa_E/U8SFAHIfzLI/AAAAAAAABxY/AXDFYG5VTMc/s1600/de3d.gif Demons 3 - The helldrake advances and takes exception to Br. Tibbs and his lascannon (may it live in infamy). Asag strides past Janus and mercilessly destroys the nearest typhoon, while Roger Sweathog reproduces the feat north of the bridge. The beasts once again chase down the doomed ravenwing, while the great unclean one dispatches two, but his nefarious scheme is laid bear by the Sgt.'s quick thinking. The plaugebearers attempt to destroy the whirlwind but their powers aren't strong enough to damage the whirlwind. Seeing the devastation wrought on their entire company, the two raven wing decide that discretion is the better part of valor and flee the field... http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HETyit6fmrg/U8SFAcylbEI/AAAAAAAABxU/jb7VJDTCASU/s1600/finale.gif Final score - At the time of Concession Demons WL, LB + 7 = 9 Dark Angels FB + 2 = 3 Summary - Well every trilogy needs its empire strikes back, and I got struck back hard. I'm glad they changed the rule about night fight cause it hurt me bad in this one. Given that i was entirely relying on sucessful hit and run out of combat, its too bad i didn't use the ravenwing banner with a second command squad and dropped the tacticals. That being said this was my second time playing demons and first time playing nurgle demons. I got abused and was also pretty unlucky but thats how dice games work. Hats off to Dr. Hemlock, he kept pressing his advantage and made me pay for every mistake. This game was at 1750 points so there wasn't enough points to give the tacts a rhino which makes them a lot more effective, as it was they were wasted points in this game. Its interesting in that the army is really made for objective missions while kill points really exposed its weaknesses. As a final word I just want to say it is a pleasure playing against such a fine opponent with such an incredible army. Epilouge - After a six hour chase through barren tundra, Brother Danoclus and Brother Meridian make it to the caves in the Tunguska valley... http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-syKazsR1lbE/U8SmH8c7iXI/AAAAAAAABx0/MQSWDAi5ER4/s1600/wrapup-a.gif http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1rCuhANrhIk/U8UvlWZt6hI/AAAAAAAAByM/YzN-x6igF1U/s1600/Wrapup-b.gif "Brother's what happened?" As Meridan and Danoclus relay their report to Company Master Indomiel. The Co. Master becomes stoic. "Very well. I shall relay this message to our brothers in orbit. If what you say is true we shall have to fight our way through a large host of enemies to recover Master Sammael, but what comes afterwards... We should not dwell on the words of Demons, but... This is a dark day for the Chapter. You have my thanks brothers. I know that you grieve for your brothers, but now is the time for retribution. The vengeance of the Angels shall be swift and merciless. Our enemies shall know our fury..." http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6Pa4WsAfx7s/U8VcWEm79EI/AAAAAAAAByc/Hn0W5AAoW3g/s1600/Resolution-to-Ix.gif Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293780-comic-batrep-battle-at-worlds-end/#findComment-3745804 Share on other sites
Polythemus
I guess I'm a little surprised by the complete lack of commentary on this batrep. You guys don't owe me anything, you've been very kind with comments and support in the past, but i gotta ask is there a problem with this one? I mean sure its a victory for chaos, is that the problem? Too long? Too much exposition? Burned out on these types of batreps? Yeah i'm fishing but with no comments and no criticisms, not really sure how to respond to the reception... A few people liked it, which is nice, but, thats not much to go on or help develop a better story/batrep technique. Space Truckin
I think they are great! I really dig the format - better than most video battle reports out there. And I really appreciated the time you're putting into them. I work with Photoshop and InDesign for a living and I know much time it can take. I'm sure it's taking a good chunk out of of your hobby/painting/playing time to share these with us. Sorry I wish I could offer some insightful wisdom and strategy, but I really am pretty clueless when it comes to such things and can only offer support! Chaplain Lucifer
Great as usual and had some cool potty humour. ;) Sad to see DA bite the dust but they'll come back. I was quite surprised to see a charge by demons on turn one. That did not play in your favour at all.. porr command squad could have done much more damage if alive and out of CC. JJD
Another really fun read. As ever keep them coming. I will also say that a loss is just as valid to report as a victory especially if you can take something away from it. Will there be any 7th ed instalments in the near future? Hopeful the ravenwing can track down Sammael and help him recover for the events to follow.... Another really fun read. As ever keep them coming. That was the last 6th ed battle report. Its all 7th ed from here on out. thanks for commenting JJD. Kasper_Hawser
I must say that I've enjoyed your reports since day one. I was just a little saddened by the end of your campaign which ended in defeat, due mostly to dice rolls as opposed to strategy I believe. Gillyfish
A shame to see a defeat Polythemus, but a great and entertaining read as ever; you gave the Chaos forces real character there and I'm looking forward to seeing the next instalment. Don't worry about the lack of replies initially. When I spot you've done a batrep I try to set aside time to enjoy it, which can sometimes take a few days. I'm probably not the only one, so don't feel bad if we're a bit slow sometimes! :) So will you go all Ravenwing next time? I would say you are better off working with just Photoshop and keeping it simple. Photoshop is for image processing and InDesign is for desktop publishing and layout. They have a little bit of a cross over with tools but Photoshop can handle everything you need it to do. If you ever think about updating the layout to a multiple frame comic book style than I could see InDesign really helping out. I do like your format and may have to steal it one day! If I ever finish painting all my minis. It really helps forge the narrative tell a compelling story and make the consequences of those dice rolls mean much more than having to pick up plastic toys off a table. edit spellings Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293780-comic-batrep-battle-at-worlds-end/#findComment-3753011 Share on other sites
Polythemus
Sorry these replies snuck up on me. Could we get a pic of your biker Librarian? I'll try and another one for you though he is pretty prominent in the opening conversation with sammael preceeding the battle. I must say that I've enjoyed your reports since day one. I was just a little saddened by the end of your campaign which ended in defeat, due mostly to dice rolls as opposed to strategy I believe. The Campaign is not over yet my brother! There shall be a final battle and the fate of the Gothic Sector hangs in the balance. Stay tuned... Hopefully I'll be able to get the new one started soon. As for the disposition of the force, I shall not give that away just yet, but I am enjoying the ravenwing army at the moment, its a nice change from so many Deathwing games. Getting around the board is a heck of alot easier. I think they are great! I really dig the format - better than most video battle reports out there. I had an offer from a friend of mine to help with batreps by getting a good deal on InDesign, which he felt could make things easier but I think its just blood sweat and tears, no way around it.
